I played WM2K before this. When I looked at it, the barbed wire ring seemed nice, so I rented it.I wish I hadn't. It's got many features WM2K has, including Create-A-PPV, Career Mode and more. Throw in configurable matches, many known wrestlers and it seems this game is as good as WM2K. Right? Wrong. There were many things which irritated me a lot. Among the foremost were the impossibility of executing certain moves, like the Irish Whip (I wish I could just whip the enemy into the barbed wire). Another thing is that the commentator sometimes referred to the two wrestlers as "Player 1" and "Player 2", which annoyed me. The difficulty of a great deal more things, which could have been done with one mere button press in WM2K, served only to aggravate me (the manual doesn't even explain how to read the moves list found in-game). Overall, matching up fights and designing wrestlers is good for this game, but the core of it, the actual gaming, is lacking terribly. Don't buy it.

"Hardcore Revolution" is as "extreme" as TNN's ECW,

I bought it on the first day, thinking it would be possibly the most hardcore wrestling game ever. I was disappointed, to say the least. (I returned it the same day.) ECW itself is entertaining and a great alternative to WWF or (ugh) WCW. However, the game is boring! Joey Styles' commentating is barely there, and the fast-paced action we expect from ECW is watered down--even WCW is more hardcore than this! The game features a great cast of characters, but it lacks several key characters (like The Sandman). The assortment of weapons is more diverse than any game, but they pack no punch. Unless you want to play more of the same boring Acclaim wrestling, don't bother with this one.

When I heard Acclaim was going to switch to ECW games after losing the WWF license to THQ, I thought it would be pretty cool. Finally this promotion that has a strong fan following since 1993 will be getting its own video game. Well I purchased the game, and found it to be a good first effort. However, if you've already played Acclaim's WWF Attitude, then you might get the feeling that you've played Hardcore Revolution before, as it's basically the same exact game with new wrestlers and a couple tweaks. There are a few bugs in the game, such as announcer Joey Styles referring to wrestlers as "player 1" and "player 2" very often, even though their names are recorded in the game within his commentary. This never happened in the WWF game, so theres no real reason for it to happen in the ECW one - especially since it's the same game engine. Nonetheless, many of the features such as Create-A-Wrestler and PPV Modes have been improved a bit since the WWF game, and the new barbed-wire mode isn't bad as well, but ECW fans deserve better than a re-packaged WWF game, in my opinion. If you haven't noticed, the game is rated M for mature, since there is some mild swearing words and trademark ECW chants in it. The "F word" seems to be bleeped though. Overall, if you're an ECW fan, then you'll love finally having a video game based on them and will like this title - as do I. If you're not a big fan of the group and just like wrestling games with Attitude already in your library, then you might want to save your money for the next ECW title, "Anarchy Rulez". Acclaim promises that one will be released later this year, and will have a new wrestling engine behind it. I hope it lives up to the hype.

Not even 5 is enough,

Like WWF Attitude the animation is ...(goofy looking guys and slow reactions). The sound also .... But Joey Styles' commentary is great! This has all the good ECW wrestlers except Sandman!!! I couldn't find him anywhere, maybe he's an unlockable guy tho. It's got RVD, Sabu(best guy next to RVD), Balls Mahoney(number 3) and Little Spike Dudley(not cool but oh well) :) The barbed wire match is awesome!! The cage matches are too. But once again the create a wrestler ... because you can't save the guy you make, unless you've got a controller pak. But if you'd like true ECW hardcore action wait til this wwf vs. ECW/WcW ... puts out a video game then you'll get the true awesomeness of RVD and Tommy Dreamer and more. But no Sabu. :(

I'm be straight foward, I'm a huge ECW fan, but this game is a disapointment. Sure it's okay, but nothing special. The only improvements from Attitude is the barbwire matches and some added moves and different wrestlers. To say the least, very bad for ECW. I hope the next game: Anarchy Rulz, will be much better I've seen pictures of ladder matches and inferno matches and a octagon cage match. I hope that game is mega cool.

Acclaim ruins another franchise...,
By Phil Watts, Jr. (Petersburg, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ECW: Hardcore Revolution (Game Cartridge)
Acclaim ruins just about every single franchise the company gets their hands on. This is no different. This game, based on the late Philly-based wrestling promotion that changed the face of pro wrestling in America, is nothing but WWF Warzone with ECW wrestlers in it. All the shortcomings that effected WWF WARZONE and WWF ATTITUDE (Acclaim's WWF games) are all over this game as well. The limitations of motion capture in videogames is apparent considering that the wrestlers move like they haven't used the bathroom in weeks. The generic music shows that Acclaim was too lazy to get the rights to the wrestlers respective theme songs (unlike the WWF and WCW, ECW uses real songs as theme music, like Pantera's "Walk" for Rob Van Dam, Ice Cube & Dr. Dre's "Natural Born Killas" for New Jack, etc.) This game does a poor job in capturing the legacy of ECW. If Paul Heyman would have used the money to pay his wrestlers instead of using it to make a deal with Acclaim to make this horrible game, ECW would still be in business today. You are better off using you money to get ECW DVD's. Don't waste your time thinking of this or any other Acclaim franchise game.

That is the best way to describe it.It looked cool in the pictures but lacked when it came down to it.The barbed wire match is cool but create some new inavative ways to throw people in it.Put it this way,as long as it takes to get a table is as long as it will take wcw to win the ratings.Well the good thing about it is if Anarchy Rules is any good I have something that I can trade funcoland. All in all OK game

I personally do not like these Akklaim games. I bought WWF Warzone and i bought this one, just because it was a HUGE step for a great wrestling federation in EC F'N W! Yet i am truly disappointed. I personally think THQ should take ECW up as their follow up to WWF WM2K! The only good thing about this game is the new and vast modes it offers. If they make another ECW game except this time from THQ (with their play control) they should include all the game modes. Plus, have some backstage and "in the crowd" fights. ECW truly deserves a better product that 100% expresses what it is like to be at an ECW show, and i think THQ is the only one that can accomplish that.
