Although it does, indeed, have the world's shortest cord, I've been able to make that work by having it right beside the USB port. The reader works great - exactly what one would expect. Plug in the unit then put in the card to be read. It pops up immediately as a new drive. My computer (Mac) recognizes it as a camera and opens my photo handling software. I've found it reliable and well worth the small investment.

After receiving this product I discovered that the built in cable is only approximately 2" in length. From the picture I had assumed there was more cable not shown but this is not the case. What you see is what you get.

Needless to say, with this short of a cable, I could find no way of setting it up next to my computer that would allow easy access and ended up buying a USB extension cable.

When considering the price, beware that you will likely need to add the price of an extension cable.

I was looking for a long time to find a USB 2.0 (hi-speed) Mac (OS X 10.5+) compatible card reader that will read my legacy Smartmedia cards (older Olympus C2100-UZ digital camera) as well as the latest SDHC cards.

This all-in-one reader works perfectly out of the box on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.6.

I was looking for an SDHC reader and ran across the EDGE All in One.
This is great reader in a neat case that will read most any card.

This card reader works for my xD and SD memory cards. I do like the convenience of transferring data from my camera to my laptop and vice versa. The reader is somewhat portable but I would have preferred a longer USB cable. I would purchase this product again.

This is a great little card reader. My only complaint is the USB cord is too short.

This thing works great. It's very solid and well made. I've got a few of these readers, and this is by far the nicest one. IT WORKS GREAT BUT... I got it to read SDHC chips, and it still had problems. No reader I've ever used, can read SDHC. They need to work on HC.

Prior to buying i thought the cable retracted into the hub.

Nope its a 2" cable.
Your going to plug this in and let this dangle on the front of or back of your PC case.
Your pretty much just going to use this once and put it away after transferring your data.

If they wanted to save manufacturing cosst.
They should of just added a USB input port and made you buy a cable separately.

I recently bought this item and it works great. I bought it to use with a Smart Media card. I haven't tried any of the other options, but it works great for those who are wanting to know if it works with Smart Media cards.

It's very small. Much smaller than it appeared in the image to me. The item is so small it literally fits into the palm of your hand. So it's great for someone looking for something that's not bulky. When the card is placed correctly into the card reader a green light will appear let you know it's ready to read.

I read some previous reviews about how small the usb cord is. While the cord is short it is definitely plenty big enough for you to hook up to the front of your CPU unit or to the side of your laptop. It's much longer than 2". It approximately maybe a 1 foot 10 inches? Depending on your unit, it may be long enough to hook up to the back of your CPU. It should be long enough to hook up to the back and place on the top of your CPU. However, it will not be long enough to hook up to the back and then run it to another place. I bought a usb extension cord, because of the reviews. However, I do not think it's needed if you're just going to hook it up in the front.

It works, and it's a good value for the money.

Since I have an Olympus, I need to be careful to make sure things will work for an xD card. This one said it does, and it does.
