I have finished assembling three of these shelf units and I can see the cause of the frustration experienced by others. The problem is misalignment of the pieces - either due to a manufacturing problem or from minor shipping damage. Before you begin assembly check all the metal parts to be sure they are straight where they should be, that the ends of the vertical posts are not bent even slightly, and that their corners are at 90 degrees. Check the ends of the shelf beams and braces and be sure that the rivets are square to the pieces. If any of these things are out of alignment, bend them back to where they should be. I used a bench mounted vise to get the pieces straight, but vise grips or a large pair of pliers should do. When assembling the shelves, get a second person to help. Your really need a second set of hands when trying to fasten the vertical posts together with the beams and braces. Doing this by yourself is like trying to herd cats. I tried it with the first unit. With everything square to begin with and with a little help from a friend, this is not a bad job at all. Without doing both of these..... just read some of the other reviews. The completed shelves will hold up a lot weight. I took the extra step of bolting the three units together side by side and they are very stable and sturdy.

I bought 2 storage racks. Assembly was not difficult and took about 20 minutes. I did struggle initially with joining the posts at the mid-section but once you figured it out, the assembly was easy. One of the boxes had a beam that was missing the rivets that connect to the post. I called and emailed customer service several times. Althought they called me back we played telephone tag for over 3 weeks. I could never get them to answer the phone...only voice mail. I sent 3 emails and never got a response from email. I tried to use bolts to attach the beam to the posts but the plywood shelf would not fit with bolts. I finally took the unit back to the retailer for a refund. The shelves are nice once assembled but the customer service issues with bad parts in the box and no customer service to replace them makes this a bad deal. I left a message that I would give them a poor rating if they did not reply to my email and voice mail. I guess they do not care!

Purchased 3 thru Amazon (yes, that is the key to customer service!), and when I assembled them they were like another customer described - herding cats! When you'd tap one corner another corner fell apart and the pieces went everywhere. They seem a bit shaky as they are hard to get the two posts vertically correct and not overlapping. They would be easy to take apart but I'm afraid they will come apart when I don't want them to. They certainly hold a lot and you can adjust two of the shelves taller or shorter to accommodate your needs. They seem pretty sturdy if you just don't move them, I hope! One of my three boxes was missing a POST (36" vertical post with holes in it, so I emailed and called the company several times. Also emailed amazon customer service and I think that is what prompted the reply from Edsal. They resent the part but when I received it, it was a whole other set of shelves...so what do I do? I have another set of shelves which is nice to have, but I'm still missing one of the posts. I'm not sure we can rig up something for the missing shelf...I can't find the post anywhere online to buy separately. Anyone know where I can get individual parts?
I would also highly advise painting the wood particle boards as they are thin and look like they are ready to absorb moisture and warp. A little paint cover would go a long way to preserve the shelves. And yes, someone said to put the board on each shelf as it's assembled to keep it square - that helped a lot. I don't know if they are worth the money - they aren't super sturdy and would never hold the weight they boast. They are fine to store things like in the picture.
Goodluck herding the cats!

We have used these racks for years. We now have 5 racks and have had no problem assembling them. My 11-year-old daughter and I recently dismantled them and reassembled them for a move. They survived the move wonderfully and were just as easy to assemble as the first time. We love them! Our camping gear, holiday bins, ski gear, etc are well organized and can be easily identified and removed when needed.

I purchased 1 of these. Assembly was very easy and required nothing more than a rubber mallet. It probably took about an hour to assemble all by myself. The only problem I had was assembly of the clip to hold the two piece legs together. I assembled the bottom half of the unit and inserted the shelves before I started the top half. I found it easier if you seated the clip on the bottom leg, using the rubber mallet to seat the clip down one half of its length, and then clamped it in place with a "C" clamp. I then drove the top leg into the clip using the rubber mallet. The design is good and the fabrication seems of high quality. I intend to buy more of these anytime I need more shelving. I like the unit very much and it is a nice looking shelf.Edsal Mfg Co Inc 18X60x72 Hd 5Shelf Unit Ur-60 Utility Storage Shelving Metal
