5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me
I currently live in a VERY humid environment. I decided to get a dehumidifier after having some problems with mold in one of my closets. I had been wiping them down with bleach but it would still come back because it is just so humid here. After buying this and putting it in my closet I'm having no problems. It's only been a few weeks but if it wasn't working I would have...

I bought the Eva dehumidifier a little less than 2 years ago and it seemed to work great. I had it in an average size bedroom. 3.0 out of 5 stars It worked great for 2 years, July 12, 2009
This review is from: Eva Dry EDV-1100 Thermo Electric Peltier Dehumidifier, 16 Oz Removable Water Tank, Effectiveness 1,100 Cubic Feet (Kitchen)
I bought the Eva dehumidifier a little less than 2 years ago and it seemed to work great. I had it in an average size bedroom. It was fairly quiet and it was just the right size for my needs, as it would fill up after about 4 days. It shut off when full so no worries and was really simple & quick to empty. I was surprised at how much water it actually would accumulate - it holds a pint. I put a little hand towel under it just in case but there was never any significant leaking. On a wood nightstand, I just didn't want any moisture damage to the wood and there never was.

I would have given the product 5 stars if it had lasted a couple more years but it didn't. I know it didn't cost a lot but I think things should last a little longer than 2 yrs and now when I go looking for a new one, I have to assume I'm paying $50 for something that will work < 2 yrs and contribute to our landfills.

I started looking for a new product and I'm sad to say that the reviews for comparable are not very good. In fact, I noticed the same problem in reviews for other brands but those brands didn't even last a year! It seems to have been the same problem; one day the thing just doesn't turn back on. Mine got full so it automatically shut off. After I emptied it, it didn't turn back on. I waited a few days with it unplugged, I made sure the plug connection was good but it still doesn't turn on. Reading other brand reviews though, it seems those stopped working within days or a few months. Maybe I should be happy almost 2 yrs?

I liked the size, ease of use and fairly quiet fan, plus it didn't look that bad or bulky sitting on a nightstand. Maybe mine was a lemon and another one would last longer. I hope so because I haven't found anything better and even if I pay for a better quality, more reliable product, I haven't found one which has all the positive attributes this one had.

I should add that this unit just sat there and never had any misuse. It didn't get dropped, knocked over nor did it experience any power surges. There are many other things I own that go through abuse and I would be surprised if they lasted 2 yrs but this one I would have expected a little bit longer life from.

Again, it may have been an unlucky fluke for me but you may want to consider when buying that it may not last 2 yrs. Hope this is helpful.

It's only been a few weeks but if it wasn't working I would have noticed by now. It's very quite. My bed is right next to my closet and I can't hear it. It's also the perfect size. Since it is smaller I have to empty it every two or three days but that doesn't bother me at all. This is a great product! Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars SMALL AND PRACTICA - Nice for the price, October 28, 2009
This review is from: Eva Dry EDV-1100 Thermo Electric Peltier Dehumidifier, 16 Oz Removable Water Tank, Effectiveness 1,100 Cubic Feet (Kitchen)
I bought this dehumidifier for my small bathroom, which has no windows or vents. The walls were always wet from the shower and none of my towels ever dried.

After I began to use this dehumidifier, everything in my bathroom was dry.
It is also pretty quiet.

I wouldn't give up this little machine for anything!

The product features include lights to indicate that the machine is working; a see-through water containment system; and an indicator light to let you know when the container is full. It is very easy to remove and empty the water container.

Its petite size makes it possible to station the machine in the smallest of space....but it does a big job!!

The Eva-Dry EDV-1100 does a great job, at a great price!!
I absolutely recommend it!!

I even use the collected water for watering plants!!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a no brainer, March 12, 2011
This review is from: Eva Dry EDV-1100 Thermo Electric Peltier Dehumidifier, 16 Oz Removable Water Tank, Effectiveness 1,100 Cubic Feet (Kitchen)
Being an engineer and technician I have no problem with these little devices.
They all are cold on one side and hot on the other side of the device.
They all have a little cheap fan running to remove heat from the hot side.
Without that fan they will not work!
Changing the fan is easy and cheap versis throwing away a solid state device that is working fine, just in need of the fan.
You can get these fans in most electronic stores. You can buy them all over the Internet.
You might even find one that will fit it in a computer store like Fry's etc.
These fans last a year or two and the bearings lock up.
Don't throw away a $50.00 item for a $5 to $10 fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eva-dry 1100 Petite Dehumidifier, May 12, 2010
This review is from: Eva Dry EDV-1100 Thermo Electric Peltier Dehumidifier, 16 Oz Removable Water Tank, Effectiveness 1,100 Cubic Feet (Kitchen)
I wanted to post this review after reading alot of complaints of unit being "Noisy"

I ordered one and after 1 mo. it started getting really noisy" i opened up the unit and noticed it has a fan like and computer desktop would have, it looked like a cheapie chinese model so i went to Fry's and bought a fan for $5 bucks and replaced it.

A slight mod will have to be done as the connectors dont match. I just spliced the wires and used electrical tape, and wall ah" Whisper quiet unit!

I understand most people wont want to do this and perhaps you shouldnt especially if the unit is new, but thats what i did to resolve the noisy issue. Other than that the unit works Great!

After reading other reviews of this model I decided to take a chance and purchase it anyway. After 3 days the product stopped working. The defect obviously has not been addressed. I am attempting to return the product but since it was purchased through bdroth, a storefront through Amazon, they do not take returns of opened products and advise to deal with Eva-Dry directly. Upon looking up Eva-Dry's website and calling them I only got a recording. This is unsettling to me. I did leave a message and hopefully they will return my call with return instructions. There are no return instructions in the manual or warrenty card that comes with the dehumidifier. Willl post an update later. The product was ineffective anyway. After 3 days in a small room with at least 60% humidity it only accumulated about 1/2 cup of water. Not worth it. I was considering the mid-size model but the review that mentioned excessive heat from the power supply makes me avoid that model.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked well for 1 year, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Eva Dry EDV-1100 Thermo Electric Peltier Dehumidifier, 16 Oz Removable Water Tank, Effectiveness 1,100 Cubic Feet (Kitchen)
This was a nice product (small size, and it worked) but it died after 1 year. The on/off button just got stuck in the on position but oddly enough when stuck in the on position it was actually off. There was no way to turn it on again. In other words, questionable quality of manufacture.

I got this for my bathroom, which has little airflow and has a big issue with shower humidity. It's small, runs quietly and zaps most, if not all of the humidity out of the air. I don't really run it long, so I haven't noticed the charger getting too hot or anything. The auto-shut off feature is awesome, since you don't have to worry about it overflowing.

I've owned two of these now, and I was tremendously pleased with both. The design seems to get a great deal of moisture out of the air. However, at a little over a year they just stopped working. They get power, the lights turn on, but the fan and heat sink no longer work -- functionally dead. This happened to the first one I bought, and then to its replacement. In each case they were just out of warranty. I really don't expect to pay this much for an item and to have it die right out of the warranty period. I feel a little cheated.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great if it didn't break, April 20, 2010
This review is from: Eva Dry EDV-1100 Thermo Electric Peltier Dehumidifier, 16 Oz Removable Water Tank, Effectiveness 1,100 Cubic Feet (Kitchen)
A great little product--when it works. I've now had two of these placed in a good size walk-in closet. The first unit worked for about a year, then one day just stopped working. I bought another one and the same thing happened after less than a year. It does a nice job of pulling moisture out of the air, and is easy to empty. It is also quiet, though the fan does get louder as time goes on. I'd buy another one, but at this rate I'm paying fifty dollars a year to rent one, which makes no sense. You can pick up a 25 or 30 pint dehumidifier for around 100 bucks, so that is what I'm going to do.
