The lid only fits on smooth mason jars and not on the jars with raised glass designs.
If your bigger kid just has a hard time holding onto a glass, or still wants a "special" cup of his own, this sleeve is great without using the top.
I think it was hard for him to figure out where the opening was at to get a drink to come out quickly.
