5.0 out of 5 stars So addictive, it should have a warning label!, July 28, 2003
By William M Marko (Kingston, New York United States) - See all my reviews
I'm sitting here at work writing this review because I'm suffering seperation anxiety! My new found love is sitting at home, alone, and I can hear her calling too me! I have a few warnings about buying this game. Your favorite team's fight song will repeat in your head 24-7 (especially when you can't be playing). You will convince yourself you're qualified to coach a Division 1A school after finishing your second season. Finally, you will find it necessary to describe, in detail, to uninterested friends, family and co-workers your nail-biting upset victory against your most hated rival. The Dynasty Mode is insanely detailed. The game play is slightly improved over last year's release (and in my opinion more realistic than Madden). Most improved the feel of "televised" games. If you take the time to name your entire roster (which should be a necessity) the announcers will say their names (atleast those that would be considered common last names, it's way more than you can believe). In closing, if you just like football, this title triumphs over Madden (and that's saying something) and even if you need an NFL fix it is worth adding this title to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, excellent game, February 13, 2004
After a sizable number of hours playing the 2003 version, I finally decided it was time to upgrade now that the price of NCAA 2004 started dropping. I'm glad I took the plunge. The differences between the two games are not huge, but they are important. The gameplay is even more realistic. The broadcast commentary is not quite as annoying and repetitive. The Dynasty Mode - where I spend most of my time - has improved greatly, although it was fantastic last year.

Here's an example. I was playing NCAA 2003 as the coach of the Golden Flashes of Kent State. Over several years, I had successfully built the program to the highest prestige level. I was given another three-year contract with the following expectations: 1. Finish in the top 10 two of three years, win the conference each of the three years or win one national championship. 2. Maintain the current prestige level of the program. In the first year of my contract, I won the national championship. Year two, I won the conference and finished in the top 10. Year three, I lost three games, including the bowl game, and finished in the top 25. I therefore met the first expectation of my contract, but I was fired because the school's prestige level went down due to a three-loss season. This would never happen in real life (unless you are Frank Solich). NCAA 2004 has a new "job security" scale that shows how well you are doing. Given the same scenario, I'm sure I would still have my job. Also in the 2004 version, other schools will come recruit you to be their coach if you are doing especially well. Very cool.

A most recommended game. One warning: make sure you have plenty of extra time coming up before you buy this, because you'll quickly become addicted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, not perfect, December 20, 2003
Graphics : B+
Playability: A
User Options: A+

Some of the animations are useless (like the close ups of players just standing around after plays... who cares?) but besides that the game plays fluid. The options are nearly endless with team combinations and playbooks. The theme songs of various teams also help to give that college feel. This is easier to pick up and play right away than madden2004 in my opinion (I do love madden however). I think some of the voice overs are also silly (who cares that "#4" is returning the kick?). And of course the analysis gets boring after you play 10 or so times. I have noticed that sometimes the CPU slows up playing this game. All around it is solid, and lots of fun to play, especially to mix and match some of the wilder ofensive schemes (like say Marshall or Miami (OH)) to other more talented teams. Try playing as Miami FL using other offenses... endless variation. For hardcore gamers there is the Dynasty mode to start a school from scratch. To me it detracts a bit from the college atmosphere compared to playing with your fave schools. It is still a solid option for those who want a more involved game playing experience. The controls use the typical buttons you would expect in an EA football game.
