Product Description

Surge Jump Rope 6-7 jumps a second This is our newest design! Top End jump rope used by many of the top jumpers in the world. Made specifically for speed and double unders. The metal handles are very light and easy to control. The shape of the handles allow for comfort and control. Extremely Durable and Fast. Use only indoors or on a protective mat. The Science Behind The Surge Jump Rope Feels like the rope turns itself. A jumper is trying to produce rotation in the handle's axle. He does this by moving the handle in a circular motion with the cable trailing behind. This puts tension on the cable creating the centripetal force that causes it to rotate around the handle. This motion permits the jumper to move her hands in more of a reciprocating (up and down) motion rather than a circular motion by implementing theories of a crank mechanism. It our belief that this causes less fatigue, can produce faster rotation, and allows the jumper to maintain a more consistent speed (assuming that maintaining a consistent pace in a reciprocating motion (like drumming) is easier than while in a circular motion). The advantage to having two bearings is that it handles the axial load much more efficiently. With 1 bearing, there is the addition of detrimental axial torque. The added axial torque on the bearing will cause it to wear out faster, and adds friction so it spins less freely. Radial bearings are not designed with axial torque in mind. It is assumed that they will take only axial load and/or thrust load. Overall, the design causes the handle to be very rigid and feel 'solid' in your hand.

I've been jump roping for about a year now and I've purchased a few ropes and logged several dozen hours on each of them except the Surge rope--I just bought that one. I thought I'd give you my impression about each of them for your benefit.

I've tried the following:
Championship Freestyle Rope by BuyJumpRopes.net (about $9)
Buddy Lee's Areo Speed Hyperformance Jump Rope by Buddy Lee (about $40)
Ultra Speed Cable Rope by BuyJumpRopes.net (about $7)
Quad Speed Jump Rope by BuyJumpRopes.net (about $17)
Surge Ultra Speed Rope by BuyJumpRopes.net (about $17)

Since I'll compare several, I'm not going to be too thorough. Mostly, I'll write down my bottom lines on each rope with only a little bit of elaboration.

Championship Freestyle Rope
If you want a basic rope where speed isn't a concern, this is the one for you. This rope is a good rope, I think, to learn on because you can practice crossovers as well as double unders. (All of the other ropes really aren't designed for crossovers). Note, though, since it's not really a fast rope, you'll have to put in a lot more effort to do double unders with this rope than any of the others on this list. Again, though, for learning this is a much better rope than most on the market and for $9, it's a good deal.

Buddy Lee's Aero Speed Hyperformance
I had high expectations for this rope. If you don't know who Buddy Lee is, youtube him. His skill and the high price tag may indicate that this is the holy grail of jump rope. It isn't. To be clear, it's a good rope but it's not a great rope. Now I want to be clear that my preference is for fast ropes and with a name like "Aero Speed," you would think it's incredibly fast. It isn't.

Length: 0:43 Mins
Hi all.

I started Crossfit a couple of weeks ago and was looking for a light jump rope to learn double unders. Of course, I first made the mistake of buying the cheapest jump rope at the Supermarket. 2 bucks. As a result: you get what you pay for.
I really like this jump rope, with which I can perform double unders so I can practice for the Crossfit sessions. The fact that you can adjust the length is critical for best performance: you can adjust it very easily on this model.

Thanks a lot for the good product.

First off, let me say that I jump rope A LOT. Being involved in competitive Muay Thai I jump rope for 45 minutes every day at the start of training. I bought this to replace a more traditional vinyl/rubber type of jump rope that had literally worn out in the middle from striking the ground (OK, mostly from outdoor use). This looked like a high quality item - gotta admit I liked the red anodized metal handles. It works as it should and seems to be made of very high quality materials. Maybe it's just me and I shouldn't have rated it so low, but the cable itself has virtually no weight and it's very difficult to maintain cadence while jumping. At first I thought it was just me and that I would get used to the lighter weight and adapt. Well, I've been using this for approximately 4 weeks now and just can't seem to get it to work for me. Again, can't fault the construction or quality but I just don't think the small diameter cable provides enough weight. I'll keep this for a back up, but I'm going get another of the cheap $8 vinyl ropes.

I wanted to buy my own rope for my crossfit class so that I did not have to adjust it every time. I was going to go with a standard plastic handle without bearings but came across this one...

This is a very good quality jump rope. It Features:rubber coated wire, ball bearings in the handles and Aluminum Handles. Most ropes with bearings in this price range have plastic handles that can break when stepped on and do not have the nice balance that these do. This is a great rope and great value.

This should certainly help you learn double unders. it takes a little to get used to the handles since they are uniform circumference. The ones I was used to were the plastic ones that got wider towards the end of the handle.

It you are buying a speed rope. you cant go wrong with this one.

I like this rope a lot, I am tall at 6'3" and am an experienced Crossfit participant. Length was my main concern, and this rope is long enough for me. It has improved my double under experience greatly. I "enhanced: the handles somewhat by thickening them with some athletic tape, which has been great. They do not have tapered handles which some of you are used to no doubt, but the tape method worked great and is better overall. The rope is of very high quality for the price, and seems to be something that will last a long time.

This is the fastest speed rope I have ever used, hands down. If double unders are your thing then this is your rope. Crossfitters dream rope! One thing to remember is that this rope is a steel cable and when you hit yourself you WILL feel it! All in all I am very pleased with this purchase. Very well built and it feels like a quality product.
