We love this karaoke machine. It's a high quality guitar amp with a karaoke machine built into it.

The only problem, as per the negative comments posted here is that when you first set it up, it seems you can't set the microphone volume (the vocals) loud enough. The mic input volume control maxes out and it still isn't loud enough. If you crank up the volume using the the master volume control on the side, then the background music is too loud. This would be a fatal problem IF it there weren't a way to fix it.

They key to this problem is to understand that the background music is controlled separately by the REMOTE CONTROL. There is no hardware knob for that. You need to turn DOWN the volume of music playing off the CD by using the volume controls on the remote. This lowers the background sound relative to the other inputs, including the microphone input. Once the CD volume is lower, you won't have a problem getting everything balance the way you want it. But you have to know to use the remote control to adjust the CD output volume. Once you have everything balance the way you like, you only need to adjust the master volume on the side to get it loud our soft overall. No more twiddling of the levels.

Initial opinion:

This is our first karaoke machine and we are very happy with it. Sounds like the other reviewer giving bad marks on the mic output might have a bad unit. We have ours turned up about half way and it's plenty loud. The unit I purchased and received from Electronica Direct was only $197, but it did not say in their description how many watts or what was included with the unit. The owner's manual shows 60 watts and I only received 1 microphone whereas the current description says its a 150W unit for $226. Every other website that had a description (e.g., acekareoke.com) advertised a 150W-unit with two microphones. So I was a little dissapointed, but the unit I received plays both the music and the mics very loud. We are looking forward to years of fun with this unit. I definitely recommend this unit.

Update 11-11-11.

I now use this machine only for voice. I have all my .cdg files on my laptop and output my laptop's audio to a Bose Sounddock II. I use Karafun software to launch the .cdg files. This setup is way way way better than playing the .cdg files on this karaoke machine, as you can open windows explorer (not internet explorer) and see ALL your .cdg files in one big window, not to mention the Bose audio quality over this karaoke machine. Scrolling thru a long list of .cdg files on this karaoke machine is quite annoying! The Karafun software is downloadable on the Internet.

I absolutely love this karaoke machine!!! I've owned two karaoke players prior to this one, but this is by far the best! It's like having the equipment of a professional DJ in this little portable machine. The speakers pump with amazing power. You can record yourself singing to background tracks. If you mix the mic level and music levels correctly, you'll sound like a professional! I did have a little trouble adjusting the mic to the music at first, then I realized that you needed the remote to adjust them to the proper levels. At the end of this item's listing, it explains exactly low to do this. ( it's not explained in the instructions manual) Follow the instructions and you'll be amazed by it's sound!

Item was delivered on time. Worked great out of the box. Will be singing in small venues. Perfect size for that. Sound and sound level are quite good. Terrific all-in-one unit. Can connect to television screen or other speakers if necessary or desired. Can connect a guitar too, I think. There IS a trick to adjusting volume. Not difficult once you know it. Check other reviewer's post below for steps. Really happy with this item. Happy with price I paid. Happy with Amazon-- Fantastic, trustworthy company.

This is a great karaoke machine!! We received it 2 days ago and have played with it for about 4 hours. It takes a little adjusting of the buttons to get the sound just right and then you have professional quality sound!!! We first ordered another brand that was more fancy looking with a camera and monitor on the product which was a joke and then returned and got this!! No regrets great product thanks Emerson!

I purchased this karaoke machine for our annual Karaoke Christmas party. We have used an old machine for 20 years and thought it was time to upgrade. After extensive research I purchased this machine, hoping it would be the ideal machine for an in-house annual party and last another 20 years. I couldn't have been more disappointed. After setting it up and playing with the volume controls (as recommended by other reviewers), I got it working adequately, although I was still unhappy with the sound. Anytime someone else touched the remote, we were back to ground zero trying to get volume up. The lack of instructions with the machine is unacceptable. Also, the microphone jacks are way too loose. If anyone moved at all, they came out. In addition, we have several professional singers in our group that brought their own mics with adapters and we couldn't get any of them to work. I planned to send the machine back after the party, but after calculating the shipping cost ($40) decided it wasn't cost effective so we'll live with this bad machine for twenty more years.

I give this product 1 star because I have ordered it twice and twice there has been a hardware issue. The first unit I ordered from pcrush through Amazon. A part of the speaker was loose, causing a vibration/distortion of the voice and music. On a positive note, pcrush, although I had to hound them on the phone every couple of days, fully refunded the item cost and shipping cost. The second unit I ordered came from J&R Music and Computer World. I was disappointed that the second mic jack just plain doesn't work. Guess I'll have to return this one too. I just want a karaoke machine that works!... If I ever get a unit that works correctly, maybe I'll up the rating.

We received this item and one of the microphone jacks did not work. We contacted Emerson who told us that Amazon is responsible for the first 15-30 days. We then called Amazon and were told that the seller is responsible. The agent did contact the seller while my husband was on the phone and relayed information. They want us to return - which wouldn't be a problem if we didn't need it this weekend for a party. I feel Emerson should have offered to overnight a new one, and have us return the defective one at the same time. I feel we were given the runaround. I definitely would not recommend any Emerson product.

The mic pre-amp isn't loud enough. Even with the mic volume all the way up, the singer's voice is drowned out by the music. The singer has to yell into the mic, and then you aren't hearing them thru the speaker. Also, the mic sound has way too much bass. Even with the treble all the way up and the bass all the way down the bass is overwhelming.

Not sure if mine is defective or if they all work this way, but it is unacceptable. Mine is going back.

Also, the CD tray is flimsy and feels cheap.

I realy like the Karoke machine and would have even liked it a lot better if both the plug ins worked where you plug the microphones in. The back of the machine where you put the speakers was missing a piece. I do not know what happened in the move from there to me. I am enjoying what I have of it and it is doing the job for me. I would recommend it to anyone. Just make sure it is shipped with insurance in case this happens to you as it did to me. Other than this it works just fine.
