5.0 out of 5 stars The Adahan method elucidated
This is I believe Miriam Adahan's first theoretical work outlining a way of helping people with psychological problems with a method which also makes use of Torah principles. Adahan has been through the years an extremely dedicated psychologist, a caring and helpful therapist to many.

1.0 out of 5 stars Review of Emett
The book is complete plagiarism. She completely stole the ideas of Mental Health through Will Training by Dr. Abraham Low.

And many orthodox Jews prefer going to Recovery International meetings, as they know the truth, that this program is Dr. Abraham Low's program. Do a web search of Recovery International and consider going to Recovery International meetings,...

This review is from: EMETT: A Step by Step Guide to Emotional Maturity Established Through Torah (Hardcover)
EMETT is a must-have for anyone who finds themselves reacting to stress in either an 'anxious - retreating' mode, or a 'hostile-aggressive' mode. Both modes, called "temper" come from insecure thoughts and EMETT walks one through all of the mind's tricks to come to learn constructive, healthy thinking. 230 pages filled with solid Biblical principles on making positive choices through secure thinking.

For one example, on page 78, "...the anxious-retreating temper stifles the will to live and love. It is rooted in a sense of shame, causing one to withdraw from responsibities with the excuse that, "I can't cope". "I'm inadequate." "I can't control myself" or, "I won't do that because it might bring rejection or require too much effort." The way to overcome the anxious temper is to focus on solutions and learn to function despite discomfort.(There is much, much more info on this temper...)

On page 83, the hostile-aggressive temper is an overreaction to your not getting your way in relatively minor matters. You take offence at what seems like an affront to your honor, a threat to your sense of power, or an obsticle in the way of your achieving a desired degree of comfort and pleasure. The result is that you become heedless of other people's feelings as you pursue the goal of having your wishes satisfied through force. When you are in hostile temper, you do not care about others. You care only about making them give you what you want.

The way to overcome the hostile temper is to recognize that you anger yourself. It is not the words of others that upset you, but rather your own desire for greater control than other people are capable of giving you at that particular moment. Accept that reality. Work at overcoming your desire to be honored at all times by everyone.

(There is much, much more on this temper as well...)

EMETT covers other topics such as How to Avoid Unnecessary Judgmentalness - Foster Healthy Relationships with Communication Techniques - Understanding Your Emotions - Avoid Temper with Children - and more.

My EMETT book is filled with yellow highlighting- there is SO much practical information packed in this book. After practicing the principles and examples in this book, one will find themselves responding in a non-tempermental way more and more when faces with life's "gifts". Written from a Judaic perspective - applicable to everyone.
