I'm quite pleased with this speaker.

The Cannabis Rex is a warm clean speaker, with nice bright highs, plus lots of fullness and low end.

I was going to mod my HRD to get better tone, but all I had to do was put the C Rex in it!!

I work on a lot of amplifiers and hear a lot of different speakers. I often recommend the Cannabis Rex, especially to blues and jazz players. I tell them, "It couldn't make a harsh note if it tried." The hemp fibers lend a certain smoothness to the tone and take the edge of the highs without muffling them. I especially like the low end tone, which handles clean and overdriven tones gracefully. It's full, without being forceful or explicitly bassy. If you want a harder-edged sound, the Eminence Wizard's response profile is nearly identical, but a couple of dB louder. The Wizard's magnet is larger, however, and it's a heavier speaker.

This is a great speaker. The Cannabis Rex is a warm clean speaker, with nice bright highs, plus lots of fullness and low end.

I build amps and effects pedals. I built a late-1950s style tube amp with tremolo, and had an Eminence Fender OEM speaker in it, and the amp had a bright clean, chimey sound to it, very open and vintage sounding.

The C-Rex is not very vintage sounding; it's loud and full. It was like getting a whole new amp. Instead and bright and chimey, the amp now sounds noticeably louder and has a much fuller tone. Lots mor mids, lower mids, and bottom end while still having nice crisp highs. It certainly thickened up the tone and made the amp louder. I play a Fender Telecaster and I still have that Tele twang, and after I lowered the pickups on the bass side, I have a great, rich tone all across the spectrum. The low notes are rich, and the high notes are clear, and the mids are right there in the middle where they belong.

If you want a loud speaker, and if you want a speaker that gives a loud, full, thick tone with crisp highs, this is it.

The Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex is probably the smoothest sounding guitar speaker I've ever heard. Period.

This does not mean that it's dull sounding or muffled at least, not if you hearing is still good. I hesitated quite a bit before I decided to buy it and install it in my Fender Mustang II but my worries were for naught. Incredibly, it tamed the icepick highs without losing the shimmer and clarity of my clean sounds. Yet, for overdrive sounds, there is very little fuzziness - just a big full and FAT sound that's articulate without being buzzy. If you play metal you'll probably hate this speaker but if you like bluesy, classic rock and jazzy sounds, this is a speaker to seriously consider. I turned my Mustang II into an open back combo and the Cannabis Rex gave the amp the low end extension that it needed. I had to turn the treble control up a bit more but unlike most amps, it never got shrill or piercing, just buttery smooth and clear. It's also much more efficient than the stock speaker at 102db@1W/1M.
I don't know how Eminence did it but I love it!

I purchased the Cannabis Rex 12" speaker in July, 2012. Five months later I have finally gotten around to installing it in my Fender Blues Jr. The installation was easy with the most difficult part being putting the amp cabinet back together with the new speaker installed. I have only played through The BJ with the new speaker in it for about three hours at this point. The Cannabis Rex is not yet broken in. New speakers typically take as many as 20-30 hours of playing time before they fully blossom into their true tone. However, right away I noticed that the amp is louder. This makes sense because the Rex is very efficient. The tone already differs from that of the stock BJ speaker. The Cannabis Rex gets its name from its hemp cone. Hemp fibers strengthen the cone and impart a different sound than typical paper cones. This speaker, even though it is loud, is not harsh-sounding at all. It's tone is well-balanced bottom to top. Bass notes are round and full. The Rex's top end is very sweet-sounding with enough sparkle and shimmer to be pleasing without dominating the overall tone. My assumption is that these qualities will be even more clearly evident when the speaker is fully loosened up. Amazon's low cost (the lowest I could find) made the Cannabis Rex a good buy and a cost-effective upgrade to my amplifier.

I have a custom speaker set up with 2 Cannabis Rex in, and 2 Red, White, and Blues in an X pattern in my cab. This is a nice speaker that has a good thump, and really brings out your lows and mids.. It can be pushed hard, and not get distorted or muddy. If you want a real nice jazz sound pair this with a Red, White, and Blues. This speaker combo is a good switch hitter also. If you are wanting jazz sounding speakers or or drop tuning speaker that doesn't sound weak this is the speaker for you.

I first installed it in a 2x12 cab with a greenback and it sounded good, not great but good. After putting the hours on it for break in it really started to open up and sound really good - big tone, creamy lows, mids, and crisp highs. It has a darker tone, which I like, than the greenbacks and V30's I usually play through.
I was on the fence about installing the C. Rex in my Fender HRD (original not the HRDIII), simply because it's a pain in the @#%. I took the plunge and WOW!! It opened my HRD up, sounds like a completely different amp. The lows sound much better and more defined, it also calmed down the piercing highs that the HRD is notorious for and made them much more defined and smooth. The tone of the amp with this speaker sounds incredible; I played an LP, strat, various other guitars and pedals, and I can say I was very happy with all of the tones and response. I was going to mod my HRD to get better tone, but all I had to do was put the C Rex in it!! I have tried other speakers in the HRD and always went back to original speaker, but not this time!! The more time I put on it the better it sounds. The Cannabis Rex is a great speaker, hands down worth every penny... I'll be ordering some more of these for my 2x12 cab.
