Book Description

Dreams and visions. Visions and dreams. Both rule Jasmine’s life. Convinced by her childhood visions that her soul mate exists and isn’t just a figment of romance novels, Jasmine pursues Victor relentlessly, believing he is “the one.”

Reincarnation. Is it possible? A dream convinces her so. But, the visions and dream promise much more than a lover. They portend danger and a threat to Jasmine’s perfect life. Who was she in that other life? Why is she so sure she is invincible? Will her beliefs lead her into danger?

And Yves? He is the celestial being assigned to watch over her, and to provide the people to protect her. He must experience again the agony of losing the woman he loves to another as Jasmine and her soul mate fulfill their destiny. Will Yves jeopardize his rise to a position of power by going to her on Earth, or will he give up his love?

Darlene Jones - Author
A long time ago, I lived in Mali. Every single day, I wished I could wave a magic wand to relieve the heart-wrenching poverty. The story line of my books reflects my desire to wave that wand and make the world a better place. If only wishes could come true. And of course, every novel needs its love story, so along with the sci-fi magic, I’ve added the requisite romance.
Initially, I intended to write “a” novel. The story and characters took over and the ending of the first demanded another. Two books became three and three became four.
I've always believed we can't be the only beings existing in the vastness of the universe. There must be others “out there somewhere” and I brought some of them along for the ride. The setting stays, for the most part, within the realities of our world, but I've found that I love the magic the sci-fi element of other beings can bring to the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect heros or people manipulated by the gods? May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Do you believe in reincarnation? What if your past life and the next was controlled by "powers" with an agenda? These questions floated through my mind as I read EMPOWERED, the second in a series. I had not read the first book in the series, EMBATTLED, so I wondered if this one could stand alone. Yes. The characters are well developed and the author tells a complete story within this book. That doesn't mean the story ends or begins in this volume.

This novel follows Jasmine and Victor as they fall in love and face a great challenge. The author uses a "flashback" technique to give readers insight into all the major characters' past. It's effective and interesting. Readers aren't "told" the things we need to know in a long dry narrative, we're shown parts of the characters' stories. The only exception is the background of the entities that watch and manipulate people on Earth (and other planets) for a special purpose.

At first I thought the two lovers (who were destined to be together) seemed too good to be true. Then I realized they were forced to be perfect by the "powers." From childhood Jasmine and Victor felt compelled to make the world a better place and wait for their soul mates. Is this fair? Well the "powers" do what is necessary to achieve their goals and let puny mortals fight their battles. Who are these powers anyway? Angels? Olympic gods? Alien beings? I guess we need to read the rest of the series to find out--clever of the author to make us wonder.

This book is a blend of romance, adventure, and science fiction. Darlene Jones is a talented writer who makes us wonder if the world can be a better place. I'm sure "powers" manipulate her for their greater purpose but we get to enjoy the result.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read April 27, 2012
By Anneli
Format:Paperback
Having read Embattled, I looked forward to reading about Em again as she was reincarnated as Jasmine Wade Berdin in Darlene Jones' sequel, Empowered. I was not disappointed. The new Em (Jasmine) was comfortably familiar to me, yet completely new and refreshing. Jaz is beautiful, intelligent, and full of surprises.
Something tells her that she has been singled out by powers beyond her control, to do good works and fulfill a mission on Earth. To help her do this, she must find her soulmate.
The rub is that Yves, her otherworldly controller, is in love with her himself. I felt huge empathy for Yves although he and Jaz are literally worlds apart.
The author intertwines the lives of the characters in such a way that we feel just as comfortable reading about "the beings" as we do about the Earth characters. You'll find action, suspense, and human relationships developed and woven into a story you won't want to put down. Jones' challenge must have been to make the story end in a way that was satisfying to everyone, and she accomplishes this very skilfully.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding July 19, 2012
By Clay
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have just finished reading the first two books about Em & Yves and found them spellbinding. I could hardly put them down waiting to find out what the story line would bring next. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Although I had not read the first book in the series, Empowered was a great read on its own. The author did a good job with character development and I never felt I was missing any information. I enjoyed the the twists in the story and the strong female character Jasmine. At first, we think she is a typical blonde rich airhead but find out she is someone quite interesting. Throw in some supernatural reincarnation and you have a very entertaining read. I am a fan of TV shows such as Fringe and Lost so the supernatural aspects struck a positive chord. I look forward to reading Jones' other books in the series.

I give 4.5/5 stars. Highly recommend this book if you like romance, adventure and supernatural thrillers.

5.0 out of 5 stars better then the first book August 22, 2012
Format:Paperback
I read Embattle (the first book in this series) a few months ago and I did like it even though I was confused at first. This one I wasn't as confused and I couldn't not put it down and actually ended up going to sleep later than I had planned because I kept wanting to read more and more. I think this one is even better than the first one. Very well written and I sure hope there is a third book because I would love to read more.

I recommend this .

I received this ebook for free for my honest review.
