Couldn't put it down!,

I've read pretty much every book out there written by EMTs or paramedics about their experiences. I have to say that this is my favorite one thus far. Not only does the author have fantastic stories to tell but he writes very well. I have read both of Devin's books and all I can say is, I hope there's going to be a third!

Unprofessional and juvenile,
By NY medic (NY United States) - See all my reviews

The book wasn't funny and the calls were not particularly interesing. I could not bring myself to finish the book. Author sounds like a teenager loose on the world with emergency lights and sirens. I was embarrassed for my profession and would hate to have the author as my partner.

Not as good as the first,

After reading Devin's first book and getting a few laughs, because I could relate to it, I decided to read his second one. Although it was a page turner, just like his 1st book, I had to stop several times and re-read alot of sentences because of misused words, wrong grammar, and all out mis-spellings which slowed things down a bit. Would I buy it again though? Hell yeah, and looking forward to #3, Devin!

Can't wait for #3...,
By Anett (Charleston, SC) - See all my reviews

This book is hilarious, just like the first one was. I don't know why truebluemedic thinks that because of books like this people have less respect for EMS people. I actually have more. I'm glad there are people out there who are ready to get thrown up on, fought with and all the other stuff that can happen on the job to save those that are in trouble. And I think it's cool that instead of whining and complaining they're able to have a good time. If I needed help, I'd want my paramedic to be in a good mood.
The book, just like the first one has a bunch of stories seasoned with random thoughts collected over a number of years on the job. I'm sure people who do 9-1-1 jobs will find that they have been through some very similar situations. And the rest of us can learn a great deal about what it's like being in EMS. So anyway, if you like reading real-life stories and like a book that makes you laugh out loud, get a copy of this. (And the first one too! :)

Kerins allows us to laugh,
This review is from: EMS2: The Life of Your Job (Paperback)
To say that we get no respect as a profession because of Devin's books is insane! We could debate why for hours but it has nothing to do with a couple of silly books about one person's experiences. I don't see burn out reading these books. I see someone with heart, honesty, and the courage to write books that go against the conventions of what people would normally expect from an EMS book. There's no hero worship here, he's not claiming to be the 'be all, end all' of EMS. And I think he pokes fun at himself just as much, if not more than anyone else in these books. He dares to speak what everyone in EMS thinks. I've never met anyone who hasn't laughed at a funny situation on a call.
TV an movies have been portraying EMS in a bad light since the days of "Mother, Juggs, and Speed." Devin dares to show you that EMS professionals are not supermen and superwomen, but ordinary people, with ordinary weaknesses, and ordinary senses of humor. I'm glad someone finally had the nerve to write a book that speaks what's on my mind! Great job Mr Kerins!

laugh out loud in an empty room,
By Sam "Vollie Girl" (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: EMS2: The Life of Your Job (Paperback)
Now for me to laugh out loud reading a book is rare and I did it numerous times reading this book. I didn't read the first one yet but I'm jumping on that bandwagon now. I loved this book so much. It was funny and true, and not so melodramatic. All I can say is a member of my squad knows Devin, and at this point I think I'll be begging him to bring Devin around. As a writer and passionate EMT, I think I idolize the guy. Great great book.

Continued Journey through the eyes of now a Paramedic,

If you liked Devin's first book, you will thoroughly enjoy this book too. It carried on at the point of where it left off with the first book. This book continues to explore the reality of the emergency medical service, and allows for you to be able to establish a point of where the emergency workers have to work from.

Stereotypical Juvenile Writing,
This review is from: EMS2: The Life of Your Job (Paperback)
I can't believe I got sucked into buying this book. It comes nowhere close to the level of writings such as Peter Canning's.Buy this book only if you hate working in general and regard all your patients as a nuisance.Buy it if you have nothing more to learn and a huge sense of arrogance. But if you want something to laugh along with, cry ,and learn as well as listen, read something else! I threw this book away in disgust. Not worth insulting my co-workers' intelligence with.

Outstanding Reading,

This book was incredible. Funny, honest, in your face, and dead on accurate. The dispatcher stories had me cracking up, as did the sex injuries! I can't wait for the three-quel.
