Don't get your hopes up,
By A Customer
This review is from: EMT Basic Exam 2e (Paperback)
When I compare the test questions that were in this book with the ones that were on my actual exam, I honestly cannot rate this book more than 1 star. The questions in the book were very easy with one clear and concise answer. If you expect the actual certification exam to be like this, you're in for a rude awakening. The questions on the actual test were tricky to say the least with many questions having more than one correct answer (some had as many as 3 correct answers). One must choose what they feel is the BEST answer which we know isn't going to be the same answer for everybody. No such questions in this book. I took the 4 sample tests in this book and only missed 7 questions on all 4 tests combined yet I spent the week waiting for the results of my certification test not having an earthly clue if I had even passed the stupid thing! IMHO, there's nothing that can truly prepare you for these ignorant tests except to try to stay calm and read the questions thoroughly and don't dwell on one single question-move on and go back and catch it later. I feel that is the best advice one can follow because if you study this book and feel confident after taking the book tests, when the actual test is put in front of you, you'll know what I mean!

Okay for reviewing, but tests are not like the NREMT test.,
By Bob Buckridge (Eugene, Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: EMT Basic Exam 2e (Paperback)
You may find like I did that you did very well on the book tests (a couple of them I only missed 1 out of 150). Don't expect to ace the real thing. I passed on my first try, but I certainly did not ace it.Anyone who has experienced EMT State tests knows that the questions are much more complex than these practice tests. You find questions that will not have the answer you were taught in your class rather the next best answer. I even had a paramedic tell me that the EMT test is worse than the paramedic test because it's your first experience at these types of tests.

Good Assistance with National Registry Test,
By Alan (Titusville, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: EMT Basic Exam 2e (Paperback)
As a teaching professional I know that the more questions that a student sees the better. Although the vast majority of the questions in this book were different to the type of question found on the National Exam, it was very helpful. I would certainly recommend this book as an aid to your classroom instruction, theoretical workbook and your ambulance practical time. In my opinion, there is only one way to ensure a successful result and that is to read, learn and inwardly digest the information found in your course study guide...there is no shortcut! In conclusion, this book did help me to find the areas of the syllabus I was weak in and approximately 45% of the questions were actually in my national exam in one form or another.

How to Take the Test,
By
This review is from: EMT Basic Exam 2e (Paperback)
Lately I have been in more than a few conversations about taking EMS exams. I took my EMT training at a local college. Much to my chagrin, one fellow told me how sorry the college program was because it did not teach one how to take the (EMT) test. Another fellow told me that he studied for his (paramedic) test by going through as many multiple choice questions as he could find.
I know at least one really smart gal and guy both of whom have failed the EMT Basic test twice. It takes not only a certain amount of training and education to pass the test but a certain amount of preparation as well. One needs to know how to take a multiple choice test where only the *best* answer is the *correct* answer. And one does not need to be stressed out by the time one takes the test. This book offers a "battle plan." There are 150 questions on the National Registry exam. There are 24-30 on patient assessment, etc. This book offers practice tests so that one can learn how to deal with multiple choice questions with more than one good answer, but again, only the best answer is correct. This book helps one identify their areas of weakness. Patient assessment: 12 questions missed out of 30? Might be a good idea to review that topic. One does not need to get an A. One needs to pass the test. Getting better in a weak area may be just the ticket. Some people get an attitude problem. I heard one gal say that she got mad halfway through her test and just started answering questions. She got a 67. Too bad she did not keep her temper under control a little while longer. She could have saved a second trip to the testing center and all the hurry up and wait that goes along with it. During my EMT exam, it took an hour to get us checked in. Some people develop a case of nerves before the test. This book has some good suggestions. The only thing I have against the 30-day plan and the 10-day plan is that they go into too much detail. But some people do need help with a case of nerves. If you don't believe me, just listen to the talk of the people in line to take a test. One should not expect this book to give one actual test questions. National Registry now tells people not to even remember questions in order to rebuild the test. Instead the book tells people how to be prepared for the test, no case of nerves and a battle plan ready to go. For those who are about to take their NREMT exam... good luck.

Great practice exams,
This review is from: EMT-Basic Exam (EMT Career Starter) (Paperback)
I used this book to study for my NREMT exam and it definitely helped. I was able to narrow down the areas that I needed to focus my study plan on by taking the practice tests

Not worth the paper it's written on,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: EMT-Basic Exam (Complete Preparation Guide EMT Basic Exam) (Paperback)
I bought the book in hopes that it would be an additional resource to help me prepare for the NREMT. Turns out I was wrong. As I went through the book I found countless errors in questions as well as answers. Finally I just gave up on the book because it was causing me more stress than help. If you're looking for a book that's very helpful and encourages you to continue to learn new materials I highly recommed "EMT-Basic Review: A case-based approach" by Kaye Nagell and Neil Coker. I used the 2007 book that was based off the 2005 ECC Guidelines but there's a newer one coming out soon. The questions are challenging but it's worth the money, time and effort.

Book vs. EMT-1 test,

I found the book didn't do a great job in preparing me for the National Test. The tests in the book were a lot easier than the National Test. I would not really recommend this guide to someone trying to prepare for the National Test.

Pretty close to the real thing,
By
This review is from: EMT Basic Exam 2e (Paperback)
I found that the practice test questions in this book were pretty similiar to the questions I had on the National Registry. A couple were even identical. I only missed two more questions on the NR than in the two practice exams I took. However, the NR has I forgot how many hundreds of questions to choose from when putting together the test, so it is possible that your test will only have a few questions that are similiar to the ones in this this book. While it's a good study aid and lets you know what to expect come test day, don't rely on it for all of your studying.

I just took a state written exam in May/'02 and this book helped a TON. Believe it or not, many of the questions in the review were EXACTLY the same as those on the test. This is a good investment if you are looking to review for the EMT exam

I thought this was a great book for people who need help before their big exam. It provides you with practice tests and scheduals on what you should do before the test. It is a good resource to have when you are studying for the exam.
