3.0 out of 5 stars nothing special, November 22, 2005
This review is from: EMT Prehospital Care (Paperback)
This is the book we used in my EMT training class. The illustrations are relatively well done and it covered all of the material I needed to pass the national registry exam. The text was generally clear, but not in as much depth as I would have liked for many topics. It is not difficult to read this text and understand what the right thing to do should be in a given situation, but sometimes it is not very clear as to why. At the time I took the class, the publisher's website resources were not helpful. I found the exercises and quizzes on the CD to be boring and tedious, and I felt it was more a marketing device (to be able to say "CD included") than a resource for learning. I have browsed through a few other EMT basic texts and found some that I've liked a little bit better, such as Brady's Emergency Care. The bottom line is that while EMT Prehospital Care is not a bad book to learn from, and has the information you will need to pass registry, it could be certainly be improved upon.

This review is from: EMT Prehospital Care (Paperback)
As a volunteer firefighter EMT I am getting ready to take EMT basic for certification. I wanted a text book to get a jump on studying and so I decided to search the internet for a copy of the version we keep at the station in the operations room. This is the thing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book's okay, workbook has many errors, December 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the text for my EMT-B class. The text is fine, easy to read, decent number of good pictures. I am doing very well in the class, so I guess that speaks well of the material. I have had previous training, however.

The work book is a good design and very helpful, when it's accurate. I have spent too many frustrating minutes/hours having to correct the workbook to be able to recommend it. Some chapters have multiple incorrect answers in the quizzes. I hate having to go through the book to prove myself right. That also doesn't give me a lot of confidence that the ones I think got correct are actually correct. I expect more proofreading for a book teaching me to save lives.

The CD is also not very helpful. First, my CD has trouble playing it period. When it does play it doesn't contain all the material it claims to have. There are cues in the text pointing to the CD. When you look many of them up they're simply not on the CD. The associated website is pretty lacking as well.

Sadly, you don't have much of a choice. Your program director has decided the text for you, so be aware of the flaws and grab some extra resources.
