Bought this on a whim because it was inexpensive and I wanted an emergency backup (mostly in case of loss/breakage) for the Roland UM-1 which I have been using happily for many years. My application involves sending and receiving LOTS of SysExes, and despite being supposedly "ultra-fast" (which was all the info I had to go on) the EMU XMIDI 1x1 was completely unable to keep up.

Out of curiosity I just did a direct comparison test using the miditest utility ([...]) to send/receive 10000 bytes worth of sysexes. The EMU had a whopping total Snd+Rcv time of 2500ms for this test, versus a snappy 210ms for the Roland UM-1.

aaaaaand, returning the EMU to store.

The Department of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio ordered 15 of these cables to connect electronic pianos to Mac computers. We will never buy anything made by Creative Labs, Inc. again. We did not immediately unpack and connect them, and by the time we did the return window for Amazon had passed. 9 of the 15 cables DID NOT WORK! We went to the manufacturer to work out an exchange. First, we had difficulty even getting the exchange worked out because they kept telling us to send an original copy of the receipt. Well, the email receipt from Amazon IS the original receipt. They refused to accept that. We finally scanned in the little packing slip that came with the cables and sent that to them by email. They accepted that and gave us an RMA. We packed up the 9 cables and sent them. Then, they claimed that they only received 1 cable, and so far have not admitted that 9 were received, though we have gone back and forth with them by email. If they do not admit that they received 9 cables, we're going to lose a bunch of money on this deal. If Amazon is wise, they will drop this item.

I needed a midi interface to update the firmware on my new Line 6 M13 pedalboard. After reading other reviews, I settled on this product. Much to my discontent the cable did not work for my application and I had to purchase a M-Audio Midisport Uno instead. The M-Audio cable worked perfectly the first time. It is unfortunate that I had to essentially spend $80 for one cable. I cannot comment on other uses for this product as I have not invested any more time into its applications, but if you are using it for a Line 6 update, STAY AWAY!

Received defective. After spending a lot of time troubleshooting my MIDI setup, I discovered that the MIDI out cable had a bad connection and only worked if you pushed on the wire. It was too bad because the software setup was easy and the activity lights on the cable were very handy. Thankfully the amazon return process was easy. Since I saw others had similar problems, I went with another vendor that didn't have the blinky lights but at least the cable worked out of the box.

The one that was delivered to me doesn't work. Because I'm not a techie, it took me a while to do the trouble shooting necessary to determine that it was, in fact, this interface that was the problem, and not the other equipment I was using. By the time I had it sussed out, the seller would no longer accept a return. Very disappointing.

One end fell apart. Junk. Bought it Feb 2014 and can't return. Replacement went from $27 to $41. Don't buy this.

Easy to hook up. But that won't matter much if your cable stops responding within a few hours as mine did.
Go with a better name brand. I'm about to try Roland's.

This review applies only to the use of this device with the Yamaha YDP-160 digital piano. I had to return the unit I ordered because it transmitted data in one direction only, from piano to computer but not from computer to piano.

This product is not compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition. Wasted many days to figure out. Should have mentioned in the product requirements/description. Too bad that I am returning it back.

I purchased this thinking I was getting a quality product. It worked well at first but then failed after 8 months of light use. I did not have the PRINTED receipt which was required by the manufacturer to return the defective unit... What? Seriously? Amazon would not send me a digital copy of the printed receipt, Creative Labs would not work with me. It looks like both these companies are too big to want to stand behind the products they sell. Very unhappy. I buy a LOT of audio gear from Amazon. I will be looking for alternate sources from now on.
