3.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you need wma dmr or customer support
The unit works well for playing MP3 music and FM radio but, if you need to listen to any products with digital rights management - forget about it. Further, when you try to get any answer from their customer support group - don't hold your breath. The built-in speaker makes this unit special, it is too bad that that Encross seems unwilling to support DRM or answer email.

5.0 out of 5 stars ENCROSS (WAVEXDIGITAL) SR-M620 IS THE BEST MP3 PLAYER., October 17, 2004

This review is from: ENCROSS ENTERPRISE SR-M620 256MB MP3 Player with Built-in Speaker (Electronics)
I've had and tried several mp3 players in the past and nothing beats the features that this mp3 player has and at the price. The built-in speaker itself makes this player stand out from the others. When I recieved this player, from jr.com through amazon $119.99, I had to spend a bit of time reading the manual, (...), because of the many features and I just couldn't simply get to all the functions just by playing around with it alone.

The good:
BUILT-IN SPEAKER!
easy mp3 playing
Line-in, built-in microphone, direct FM recording to mp3
192, 128, 64, 32, 8 bitrates on mp3 direct encoding
standard 1/8th earphone jack
playlists
joystick like cursor navigation through menus
built-in AAA recharger
bunch of surprise features
it's sliik

the bad(eh not that bad)
lacks faster playback speed option
doesn't come with a jog/armband
no rech.lith.ion battery.

If mp3 players had a standard then the SR-M620 should be it.
By far the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best player with lots of features, June 30, 2005
This review is from: ENCROSS ENTERPRISE SR-M620 256MB MP3 Player with Built-in Speaker (Electronics)
This is one of the best budget MP3 players i have used.

Note that as opposed to what another reviewer has said, this player comes with a rechargeable battery (AAA) but i didnt notice it until i finished my own alkaline battery.
It was hiding inside the bubble packing, good that i just checkled before throwing it away.

The best things:
-It can rechargeable battery that comes with it (or any rechargeable AAA) while it is connected to the USB
-It can connect to a USB port without any cables
-No drivers to install, it just shows up as an external drive
-Tried the Voice recording, FM (works only when i plug in the earphones (any) -works as antenna)-- both the features works impeccably
-It has a small speaker on one end, so if the earphones are not plugged in you can just listen thru the speaker, not too loud but enough to listen to a song without earphones
-This player comes with everything, no need to even buy a rechargeable battery
-Lots of features, multi color backlight
-I just got it for $29 after MIR and this thing is still working :)

The worst things:
-There is no arm band or a belt clip included
-There is a neck band given but it has integrated earphones, so if you use your own earphones you cant hang it anymore (or instead you might be hanging 2 pairs of earphones including the one in your neck band)

There is one more software inside this player called 'remote PC' or something, i'm not sure how it works or whats it for.. for the moment i'm enjoying the player.

buy it.. you wont regret.

Venu!

UPDATE:

The player still rocks... the rechargeable battery that came with the player got exhausted and doesnt give more than 3hrs of play time, so i bought a couple of AAA's and the player works simply perfect!! I use it everyday now.
Someone by name Anna Haley asked where i bought, sorry Anna i couldn't figure out how to send you a personal message with the answer. I bought the player at JR.com on Thu Jun 16, 2005. It came to approx a final proce of $25 after a $15 rebate.
nice buy... would never regret!!

Thanks, -Venu

Great player. Too many features to mention. Takes some time to learn navigation. FM reception good. Many recording options and high quality. Build quality is great. The external speaker is more useful than expected. Forget the big boys, this company is serious about innovation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice mp3 player, strongly recommended, July 8, 2005

This review is from: ENCROSS ENTERPRISE SR-M620 256MB MP3 Player with Built-in Speaker (Electronics)
As all the review said this is a very nice mp3 player, I love it very much. It has almost all the functions I can think. One really great surprise for me is it also displays Chinese characters!!! The only pity is it's USB1.1. It takes about 18 minutes to transfer 250MB file, but for USB2, it would take only about 1'10". It's a long waiting ...
For the battery, there is no problem to use any rechargable AAA battery you can find on market. The AAA/R03/UM-4 are three different names for the same battery. AAA is used in US, R03 is international standard and UM-4 is used in Japan, they all refer the same kind battery.

Very good device considering the number of functions it has and its price. Not necessary to be an expert with computers to deal with it. Manual very objective. Nice design and funny display colors. Easy to record from FM radio, voice or computer.

4.0 out of 5 stars SAFA SR-620F - great for price-reduced closeout product, September 12, 2005
This review is from: ENCROSS ENTERPRISE SR-M620 256MB MP3 Player with Built-in Speaker (Electronics)
The SAFA SR-M620F is a pretty decent MP3/WMA player. The voice recording at 32k is excellent. The headphones included are surprising efficient and sound good. The built-in speaker is very useful but to get any FM stations, you must use the headphones. If not for the integral speaker and low price, I would have bought (and may still) a 1GB iAudio U2 or Creative Muvo Slim.

Navigation of the SR-M620F is a bit clumsy and sometimes parts of the display printing is so tiny it is hard to see even with my reading glasses (optimized for reading 10 inches away.)

I am disappointed that it does not and WILL NOT support the Ogg codec. USB 1.1 is also a little slow but with only 256MB it is not that bad.

You can get 4 rechargeable AAA batteries for under $10 at any Walmart etc. to use the recharge-via-USB feature. For my car, I also found a $1 USB/cigarette lighter adapter for charging the battery at the 99 Cent Only store.

I used the free EAC "Exact Audio Copy" ripper set to record with the built-in "external" Microsoft WMA9 codec. I recorded my favorite music CD songs into VBR 96kHZ format. This was still pretty good audio quality for most songs and yielded file sizes much smaller than MP3. This way I could maximize the rather small 256MB memory space.

I haven't yet tried direct MP3 recording to the device via the 1/8" stereo input. As a musician/singer, that could be very handy if it works well. I have used the stereo audio out as an insert into my Roland AC-60 acoustic amp and that works well for jamming along to recorded MP3 tracks. However, note that the SAFA output is impedance-matched for headphones and not for audio equipment. Because of this, the bass is lacking if you hook it up to your home stereo system.

Overall, a great device for the price. Maybe not too user friendly for beginners, but with very good sound and quite a few features. You can download updated firmware at the safa.co.kr web site (read the manual page 55 before installing).

5.0 out of 5 stars Recharging does work with US batteries & great rewind feature, September 8, 2005
This review is from: ENCROSS ENTERPRISE SR-M620 256MB MP3 Player with Built-in Speaker (Electronics)
Not sure what problems the other reviewer had, but the recharging works great with Energizer rechargable AAA batteries.

Awesome player like the others have said.

A great plus for people who listen to audio books broken into many small files is that this player will, when the user is cueing back and hits the beginning of the file, keep cueing into the end of the previous file. So if some interruption came and you missed the last few seconds of a 10 minute file and are in the next file you can just back it up. With other players you have to go back to the start of that 10 minute file and FF all the way to near the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent MP3 Player with Loads of Features, July 13, 2005
This review is from: ENCROSS ENTERPRISE SR-M620 256MB MP3 Player with Built-in Speaker (Electronics)
[...] I also have iRiver iFP-780, another feature loaded MP3 player but with 128mb memory. Here are my observations after played with it for one night.

This player is very similar to iRiver 700 series ultra portable player! I am wondering they use the same components inside.

Compare to iRiver
-made in Korea
-sound quality is excellent, equivalent to iRiver.
-almost same overall dimensions, but looks a big fatter because the body is curved outward, not inward as in the case for iFP-700 series
-same screen size, but curved outward, light gets reflected more (not as good). Serveral backlight colors to choose from, cool.
-FM reception/sensitivity not as good
-same number of buttons
-use one AAA rechargable (included), charged through a USB port, 9 hours playback (iRiver uses one AA, 40 hours with Alkerline battery)
-no support OGG,
-can be plug into a USB port directly to transfer files/music FROM/TO a PC. iRiver uses a special cable and software to transfer music file TO the player ONLY.
-internal speaker, fairly clear sound, COOL.
-internal speaker is contained in a removed cap that should be removed so that the player can plug directly into a usb port, iRiver use special usb cable.
-voice recording through the internal mic. is excellent, better than iRiver, very clear, automatic sensitivity adjustment works well.
-voice recording through an external stereo mic. (I got from ebay $24) is also excellent, much BETTER than iRiver
-there is a software for remote pc control through pcnetpc.com. Haven't installed on my pc yet.
-turning on the player is a bit slower
-necklace type earphone, good or bad depends on how you use it. The cord is too short if you put the player in your pant's pocket. The length is enough if you hang the player on your neck or put it in your upper shirt pocket
-capable of lyrics display, haven't tried it yet
-can create a play list containing up to 50 songs

Construction quality is comparable. iRiver seems a bit sturdy.
Sound quality through the included earphone is similar.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rechargeable battery not sold in US, August 1, 2005
By
This review is from: ENCROSS ENTERPRISE SR-M620 256MB MP3 Player with Built-in Speaker (Electronics)
One reason I chose this player is because it claims to be rechargeable through USB. But to do so, you need a recahrgeable battery, aaa/r03/um-4, which seems not to be sold in the US. I tried the other type of recahrgeable battery that is sold in US, but didn't work.

If I knew this, I would have bought other player from established brand.
