4.0 out of 5 stars Great value! (Envision G2016wa1), April 14, 2008
This review is from: Envision G2016WA2 20-inch Monitor (Electronics)
The G2016wa1 is a great value at about $200.

Very wide viewing angle, 160° by 160°, is great, but there is noticeable LCD brightness banding, which dims the top of the screen a bit when it is ergonomically adjusted (the top of the screen should be just below your eyeballs).

Just don't count on those built-in speakers to be good for much. They are fine for system beeps in a quiet room, but not much more. I am using them with a KVM switch which switches audio, so I get the beeps only from the machine I am currently looking at the screen of. This is great for everything except music, so my Music computer plugs straight into the sub-woofer/amp.

The amplifier for the speakers was at 50% when I opened the box, so be sure to turn them up to 100% via the monitor menu controls (near the vellow/green power/video indicator LED). But be warned, at 100% you will get an annoying buzz from the speakers when there is no audio.

Even with my computer audio output at 100%, and the amplifier built in to the G2016wa1 set to 100%, and the beep volume set to 100%, the speakers are not very loud. They do not distort, they can not be overdriven (this is good), but they are not very loud.

I am assuming the G2016wa2 is a minor change to the G2016wa1. Maybe they fixed the audio buzz?

The low power, buzz, and tiny speakers all account for the lowering of the rating on this monitor. It would get 5 stars otherwise!
