4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a wireless system that sounds good!

I have an older house with walls that fall apart if I start putting holes through them for moving speaker wire around. I have been waiting for worthwhile wireless speakers for some time. While EOS may not be perfect, I have been impressed with the clarity, range, and ease of use.

Pro's:
- Easy to use and very intuitive. I was playing music within 3 minutes of taking it out of the box.
- The wireless speaker worked over 100 feet away on a different floor
- Recharging the iPod Nano Gen 1(which fit just fine) was a nice, convenient feature.
- remote was handy. Ability to add up to 4 speakers is a great option
- several friends have commented on how nice it looks, sounds, and how they wish they had one in their home (we've been using ours in the kitchen)
- no skipping in any of the music; the wireless did not interfere with my 2.4 Ghz phone or wireless modem signals.

Con's:
- no off switch; there are blue lights on the base unit and antenna when it is plugged in as well as the antenna on the wireless speaker when plugged in. Seems like a waste of energy.
- the wireless speaker's volume is not controllable via the remote. Only the base unit is controlled by the remote. You can adjust volume on the top of the wireless speaker

If wireless speakers is what you are after, the EOS is a good option.

sound is what you would expect from a small system like this. bass is a bit thin and you won't want to crank it. the volume range is there for low-output tracks. all of this is ok with me. the big issue was simple distribution of sound from the ipod around the house. it's a keeper.

the bad.
the remote is so under-functioned, it's kinda ridiculous. it has a volume control, track fwd/rev, speaker on/off. uhhh... that's it? um.. i just went to radio shack to replace my wife's cd/alarm clock. there is no such beast any more, just ipod/alarm clock. ok ok, i don't need two docks, but it was only $50. the remote on this cheapie is full functioning: menu operation, select other albums/lists, etc. what the hey?

the ugly.
i called eos wireless to ask if they had a universal converter for an ipod nano. "sure we do". "great" i said. ... they don't. called them again to mention the fact that this converter was missing from my eos and they said they don't make one. my ipod nano just sits on the dmlink and wiggles when you touch it. remember that $50 cheapie from radioslack? it comes with a nice, snug converter that keeps your nano from wobbling on the dmlink. i just know that link is gonna break off sometime because of accidentally wobbling the ipod just once too often.

bottom line.
i recommend this product, but this is clearly nothing more than something to get the company off the ground with their first product. the two significant complaints (under functioned remote and no ipod nano converter) are serious flaws in their product design. i can forgive them that the remote only works with the base station. shaves another $40 off the remote speaker.

i just hope when they fix their product they don't leave us first adopters in the dust. i know, i know. they will, but i can still hope, can't i?

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick to get music throughout home, very good quality, February 12, 2008
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: EOS 100T1R Wireless Audio System with Universal iPod Docking Base and Remote Speaker (White) (Electronics)
I was looking for a device to replace the aging and poor quality intercom music throughout the house in a fashion less costly than wiring high-end speakers everywhere and making connections back to a central media server. My needs were for background music at moderate listening levels and below, not as a source for party dances or critical listening. The EOS unit and the two additional add-on speakers (for 3 total plus base unit) could not have fit the bill better. Setup was no more difficult than plugging in the units. I have one in the upstairs hall, one in the basement, and two on main floor at either end of the home. All units work without any signal drops, with a total absence of static, and with no other interference. I don't have an iPod (I know, sorry) so I connect the EOS base to either my Dell MP3 player (long since out of production but working very well thank you). So far the usability, quality, sound volume, setup, and enjoyment have all far exceeded expectations. On nit: the base unit has no "off" switch, an oddity that makes absolutely no sense to me whatever and would be a significant convenience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Wireless Speaker System for a Small Business, December 18, 2008
This review is from: EOS 100T1R Wireless Audio System with Universal iPod Docking Base and Remote Speaker (White) (Electronics)
I bought the EOS wireless system for my uncle who owns a gift shop and he loves it! He was going to hire someone to run wires throughout his store and they were going to charge him hundreds of dollars just for the labor/installation. I paid a steep $250 from the manufacturer website for the base system but I think it's definitely worth it since it costs more than that to run speaker wires throughout the building.

At first I was hesitant about the sound quality since I previously bought wireless headphones for my TV and the sound quality was so-so -- kinda halfway between AM and FM radio quality. But I made the purchase anyway from the EOS website since they had a money back guarantee and I was blown away by the sound quality. Of course, it's not Bose level sound quality but it's up there with most of the mid/high end wired speaker systems/iPod docks that I checked out at Costco & Best Buy, except this is wireless and you can have up to 4 satellite speakers.

Setup was pretty much a no-brainer. My uncle and I took everything out of the box, plugged in the power, put the extra speaker in the back of the store, and popped in the iPod. That's it.. no sync'ing, no searching for frequencies, no static. It was very simple and truly Plug & Play. I wish other manufacturers would make products this way.

The base system has 2 speakers built in with an iPod dock connector and an AUX Line-in so you can play any MP3 player, stereo, or audio source w/ a 3.5mm cable (which was included). My uncle just docked his iPod and it keeps it charged as it plays through his playlists all day long.

The included remote is credit card sized and lets you control the volume, play/pause, previous/next, and mutes the sound. The remote only controls the volume of the base unit's speakers (not the wireless satellite speakers). At first I didn't like it, however, you can set the satellite speaker's volume independently with the volume/power knob on each remote speaker. I guess it kind of works out better that way since if you have speakers all over the place or in different rooms, they don't all have to be cranked up at the same volume.

You won't be throwing any block parties with this system but it still has a solid build and produces clean, clear sound. We tried putting a speaker in the back room (behind several walls) and the sound was still crystal clear.

Whatever wireless technology they put in this thing is pretty amazing because I can't tell any difference in sound quality. My uncle and I were both impressed with the sound quality (wired quality sound with the wires) and how easy it was to setup throughout the store (all you need is a power outlet).

I highly recommend this for any small cafe or store owner.

2.0 out of 5 stars EOS can't handle anything above low volume., January 23, 2008

EOS Wireless can't handle anything above low volume. It actually sounds very good at a low to moderate volume but the sound very quickly becomes distorted at a moderate to loud volume.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not real great sound, March 29, 2008

I thought for the money this system would be better. There is no base and a lot of distortion when the volume is turned up. There is no power off button either and that really bugs me.

The only nice thing is being able to have music in more than one room. As long as you keep the volume low it sounds fine. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone. If your going to spend this much money get a Bose.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice product but..., July 19, 2009
By
RayRopes (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
I got the EOS wireless system for a great price online and overall am happy with the product. The ease of use and wireless capability are great and the sound is average. My issues with the product are more a consequence of Apple's schizophrenia. I have an Ipod Touch which works great but is unable to charge on this device. I bought one of the third party products (Griffin Charge Adapter) and this doesn't solve the problem either. Not really EOS's fault, but annoying nevertheless. My other warning is for other Ipod Touch users who like to use internet radio such as Pandora or Finetune while docked. Apparently the wireless interferes with the network because none of these services will work with the wireless feature enabled. Again, not really EOS's fault but something other people should be aware of. Like I said from the start, this is a good product as a whole and does let me play my ipod music around the house, but there are still issues. I wouldn't buy it unless there was a deal going on and part of me thinks that since it is a wireless audio system the remote should be RF. I am optimistic that either the next generation will be better or other products will continue to come along in this field.

They do not say it, but it will NOT charge 4 generation IPOD NANOS. The company will admit this when you contact them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Service; not so great product (not the seller's fault), August 30, 2007
I oredred the EOS system because I liked the idea of being able to filter sound throughout my home wirelessly. Well, the sound quality wasn't on par in my opinion. It was very fuzzy and the speakers would get staticy on songs with low bass lines. This again was no fault of the seller's. I received excellent customer service, speedy responses and delivery. In the future, I will not purchase electronics via the Internet (based on reviews) unless I have experienced them for myself first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers, great product, May 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have this product and have enjoyed it for several years. We take it when we go on vacation and camping if there happens to be electricity. It works a treat, though as some reviewers have said it does not work with the newest nano but I think that should be apples fault and not EOS. Some reviewers have stated that it doesn't work well with the itouch/iphone to play pandora/rhapsody/last fm, but EOS does have a transmitter that you can plug into your computer or other device and play those things. They also have an Iphone/itouch app that allows you to control it from where ever you are. I really like this product and I think that some of the negative reviews stem from the fact that people bought it expecting it to do much more than what it was advertised to do. If you want a great wireless speaker set for your ipod then buy this, if want something else then buy the other transmitter and amplifier that the company sells.
