Product Description

Amazon.com

Standardized by the DEA, ATF, and FBI SWAT team, the Model 552 holographic weapon sight is the sight of choice for such military units as the Stryker Brigade, 10th Mountain, and 3rd Infantry. The Model 552 sports a revolutionary sighting system based on advanced holographic technology. The design works by using laser light to illuminate a holographic pattern embedded in the heads-up display window. When the shooter looks through the window, he or she will see a virtual red image of a reticle pattern projected onto the target plane. Overall, the holographic sight improves target acquisition, boosts accuracy, and increases control over the shooting environment.

The Model 552 is built to last, with a rugged aluminum hood assembly and knobbed, tool-free mounting bolt. The battle-proven design can withstand the abuse that any harsh environment, high-powered weapon platform, or military mission can dish out. Other features include a 65 MOA ring reticle with a 1 MOA aiming dot; support for two 1.5-volt AA batteries (lithium or alkaline); unlimited eye relief; and 30 brightness settings. The Model 552 is compatible with Gen I-IV night vision systems and mounts on 1-inch Picatinny or Weaver rails.

4.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Bit of Kit, November 22, 2007
By
Before purchasing my first electronic weapon sight I had the great fortune of being able to compare side-by-side the EOTech 550 with an Aimpoint Comp M2 and a Zeiss Z-point. For me EOTech was the hands-down winner. I have a significant astigmatism and both the Aimpoint and Zeiss electronic dots appear more like an indistinct bunch of grapes than a single aiming point. No such problem with the EOTech at all but the highest two or three power settings. The EOTech aiming point also includes a larger illuminated circle around the central dot. In my experience I use the large dot for fast, close-in shooting and utilize the small 1MOA dot for deliberate precision shots at a distance. With this sight I have the best of both worlds. I also like the universal availability of AA batteries. This was always an issue with most other electronic sights, since they typically use power cells no where near as popular as the AA. This is obviously an issue since Aimpoint recently began production of an AA-powered dot sight. The U.S. Army agrees with me...all new Aimpoints will be the AA-powered model. Finally, it's nice that you don't need a costly separate mount like you do with an Aimpoint. The EOTech mounts directly to any firearm equipped with a standard Picatinny rail.

Downsides to the EOTech are minor. It's rather long compared to similar sights, which may somewhat limit your mounting options. And while AA batteries are available anywhere, you'll need to change them more often than if using an older Aimpoint using the 3 volt battery. Those Aimpoints have proprietary circuitry that provide truly amazing battery life. Nevertheless, I'm still on the original set of batteries in my EOTech and the sight has been turned-on a few hours every month for over a year.

While I think the Aimpoint is a very good electronic sight, I believe EOTech is overall the better choice. They are very popular among elite U.S. military units like Army Special Forces, Marine Recon and Air Force Pararescue. It's hard to argue with endorsements like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Afghanistan, March 8, 2011
This review is from: EOTech 552.A65/1 Military HOLOgraphic Weapon Sight (Sports)
The only reason i got this sight is because my M68/CCO Aimpoint is not reliable at all.At the base of the sight it is screwd into the mount with an allen wrench screw, Or atleast the comp4s are.And when i needed it most the damn thing bounced off the rifle. The screw came loose and fell off. That was the second time that happend. Iam sorry but i cant put my life into an aimpoint. They have lost my trust. Eotech on the other hand is great. I fell in love with it the first day i got it. I trust it with my life. Very sturdy and comes with option of allen screw or twist screw. Very easy to operate and reliable. I would recommend it to my own men. Its just that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars EOTech 552.A65, March 4, 2011
This review is from: EOTech 552.A65/1 Military HOLOgraphic Weapon Sight (Sports)
Never knew what I was missing until I purchased the EOTech 552.A65. The sight works best with both eyes open. It's almost impossible to miss your target even at 300 meters. The best way to sight this in is to hit dead center at 50 meters and you will be right on at 200 meters, and 1 inch high at 100 meters. and 1.5 inches low at 300 meters with a 55gr to 60gr bullet.
