Fisk Industries - EPs And Rarities, May 5, 2011
This review is from: EPs And Rarities (Audio CD)
Languid soundscapes from Britain's Fisk Industries. On this compilation, _EPs and Rarities_, Mat Ronson shows what he can do with some beats and samples. He keeps his compositions tight: on the EP side, "The Isle of Wight" casts a complex, angular spell, while "In Tangents" calls to mind some of The Black Dog's works, albeit in a more stripped-down fashion. Fisk excels in creating futuristic moods; "Last Flight Sonic" sounds like a midnight cruise in your hovercraft down a Detroitian highway. "Liquid Silver Moments" slips into your consciousness like mercury, but without the resultant brain damage, and "Moieties (Part Two)" slides by just as easily. On the Rarities side, the delicate blippiness of "Variant of Option A" and the fleeting romance on "The Way We Found Each Other" both impress mightily. "Largo Winch" applies a heavier bass, and "On Thursday" has a tiny hip-hop snippet to augment its realness. A fascinating collection.
