4.0 out of 5 stars loved the game- its just not one of those indefinite ending games
i absolutely loved this game. i am obsessed with the ER show and i really liked this game. Its not complicated at all, but definitely kept me not wanting to stop playing it.
It is one of the games, though that is similiar to the csi/law and order series in that its only a set number of missions you can play, unlike the sims or rollercoastertycoon/etc. There are...

1.0 out of 5 stars Legacy games continue to decline, November 10, 2005
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: ER (CD-ROM)
I have bought most, if not all, of the Legacy Interactive Emergency Room Games. I also bought the first and second Veterinary Emergency Room games. I think that Legacy started out well, but each succeeding game has been dumbed down. The first and second Emergency Room games had different staff in each room, each with different personalities. After that, the succeding games dispensed with this, and had the same type of staff member in each type of room. Too bad--the personality types reminded me of real situations in real emergency rooms.

In ER, the types of medical skills have also been dumbed down. In earlier games, you had to place the right diagnostic instrument on the right part of the patient. If you did too many tests, the chief of service would castigate you for wasting money. Again like real medicine. The nurses and technicians--despite their attitudes--were the most helpful individuals when you were in a tight spot. Well so much for reminising about the previous Emergency Room games.

ER is not like those games. You do not realy use of learn much about real medicine. You do not even really learn much about what is wrong with your patient. It is more about smoozing with other ER staff and making sure that you do not get too low on hygeine or nutrition points. Treatment is completely nonspecific. As far as actual medical practice is concerned, you might as well be playing Pong. It looks as if someone was trying to emulate the Sims on the cheap.

The graphics are not as good as the ones on Emergency Room Disaster Strikes, or Veterinary Emergency Room. If truth be told, I much preferred the earliest truly functional Emergency Game, Emergency Room II. Even though there was not as much animation, the experience was more realistic.

If you want to play the Sims II, buy it. This is a poor imitation of the Sims and an even poorer imitation of previous Legacy Emergency Room Games. I would suggest that Legacy get a REAL emergency room physician to help them with this series of games.

It is one of the games, though that is similiar to the csi/law and order series in that its only a set number of missions you can play, unlike the sims or rollercoastertycoon/etc. There are enough missions to keep you going for a while though and its really fun to try and become a good doctor and then get your own med students.
you definitely should download the patch and the game works perfectly fine after that.(otherwise it gradually runs slower and slower).

overall, i totally love this game. its challenging, but easy to learn and it kept me interesting and kept me wanting to get better as a doctor and earn the specialty personality traits. you can even form relationships with other doctors and kiss them and talk or you can just focus totally on getting your skills way up there. either way, if you love the show, youll love the game!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected, July 6, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: ER (CD-ROM)
When I saw ads for this game I was really excited because I am such a big fan of the show. Overall, the game was pretty good. At first it was very addicting, I played it for like 4 hours straight. After that it started to get kind of redundant. I also found it to be really easy, and quite short. It only took me a few days to beat the whole game. It is very similar to the Sims, so if you like that you will like this game.

A really fun game, and not to mention that Noah Wyle's voice and likeness is really hot!

The game is a bit short, but it is still fun! Glad I bought it.

It's not so much a medical game as it is a simulation game.

I recommend this game to people who like the show, and to gamers who like simulation games.

This game would be fun if you could play it for any period of time. The amount of bugs is astounding. I purchased this game last year and there is still no fix for the many problems despite complaints to their technical support. If you look on Legacy Interactive's tech support forum for this game( http://www.legacyinteractive.com/forum/list.php?4 ), you will see how many problems there are and how they have been ignored. This is a complete waste of money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable game, but..., January 11, 2006
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: ER (CD-ROM)
I really liked this game...let me start by saying that. I really did. However, two things bothered me greatly. First off, it is very clunky to play. I have a pretty darn good computer and this game would seize up often. Many reboots were needed to complete the game.

My second complaint is that it was VERY short. I normally take a bit of time to complete a game, I finished this in around a week. I was stunned that it was over and thought that it may lead to a more advanced scenario, but nope.

All in all, it was fun, but not worth what I paid due to the shortness of the game and the clunky interface.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stupid, pointless game, June 12, 2006
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

This is not a fun game to play. You basically just run around a hospital doing random boring tasks. Also, don't be fooled by it being called "ER" and being made by Legacy... YOU DON'T DO ANY MEDICAL PROCEDURES AT ALL; there is nothing scientific about the game. Well, at least in the first few levels; I uninstalled it after that.
If you are a huge ER fan and aren't interested in the medical aspect of the show somehow, then perhaps you might want to buy it. Otherwise, don't waste your time or money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting game with alot of potential., January 5, 2007
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: ER (CD-ROM)
ER, the official game from the television show ER is a game that offers you the chance to work in the Emergency Department of the hospital, starting as an intern and working your way up the ranks.

The game starts with you deciding what you, as the doctor should look like, you can only decide your hair colour, eye colour, scrub colour (your clothes), what pre-made head you would like and if you want to wear a jacket or not. There aren't many available "looks" you can choose but the amount available is good.

You then get the option to play the tutuorial, although helpful to begin with it leaves out some important information that you have to work out, so if you didnt play it, you could work it out.

The main aim of the game is to help the many patients who fill the waiting room. You as the doctor walk over to the patient, diagnosis them (which will make them become a colour depending on how sick they are, there are 10 levels of sickness, level 1 is bright green and is not sick as all, these patients take only a small amount of time to heal, the colour changed to yellow and then to level 10 which is flashing red, if your patient is level 10 they die.) Once the patient is diagnosed they are moved into one of the available beds in different rooms. Once the patient is in bed you just click on the patient and you start to heal them. This was the frustrating part as you can't actually heal them yourself. Once healed the patient walks out of the hospital and you start the process again.

The game does consists of many challenging-at-first situations, on one level you get the chance to taking care of 5 interns, who indefinatly will end up killing the patient if you dont step in and take control, you can at times choice who to fire from the emergancy department and you take care of many interesting characters who will all come in with something wrong, but then will need a new diagnois, heading to the lab for the majority of you shift.

You can make friends by talking with other doctors and nurses, which has many advantages, such as raising you emotion levels, and getting you perks that will make your time in the Emergency depeartment less stressful. Or you can do the opposite and make enemies who will make your life as hard as they can.

An at times annoying aspect of the game is the need to refresh your needs. At the start of this shift you energy, hygiene and emotion bars are at max, but working a stressful 36 hour shift will make the bars drop, with results such as patients apparently not wanting to come near you cause you smell, or you collapsing because your energy is so low so you end up in the staff lounge in bed. This can create problems in a emergency.

The game only has 2 levels of the hospital, the emergancy level and the staff level (where the bathroom is, the canteen and the gym...) with an added section for the ambulance area.

This game is not very hard once you know what you are doing, many aspects of the game can be frustrating, but the generaly game is very fun and addictive to play. I was disapointed as there are only 6 or 7 levels , a level being the 36 in-game-hour shift to complete, which resulted in me finishing the game quickly, but the good thing about it, is that there are many different ways to play the game so you can just restart and play differently.

This game proved to be challenging and held my attention for hours on end. The possibilities are endless which adds to the
challenge of the game.
Would highly recommend for anyone who is a fan of ER, and this game will prove entertaining long after the duration of the television show.
