Editorial Reviews

The powerful premiere movie of the series critics and audiences made this year's #1 new show. Get swept up in the round-the-clock heroism and compassion of the doctors at a Chicago hospital's emergency ward.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beginning of everything..., September 16, 2002

Years ago, when Dr. Mark Green had hair, and Carter looked like a high school graduate, ER debuted. It has been one of the most succesful shows on TV ever! and although many of its original starts are no longer in the shows, it still rocks.

If you are a fan (if you are reading this, you probably are), see how every thing got started. The long shifts, the bad pay, the terrible food and the addiction to coffee, these actors made ER what it is today. I love it. Every now and then I watch the pilot again. It moves me all the time.

See Mark Green in action and Dr. Benton's attitude in a pilot that started it all.

Do yourself a favor and buy it. You will not regret it.

Enjoy the show!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting in retrospect to see again how it all started, November 15, 2000
This review is from: ER - The Series Premiere [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"E.R." was not a ground breaking drama in any way, but it brought the energy of an urban Emergency Room to television. Not since "St. Elsewhere" had there been a decent doctor show on television. I can remember early on in that series they had one act in which they had an emergency case in their E.R. It was more intense and more realistic than anything I had ever seen on television up to that time. On "E.R." they usually have at least two such emergencies going on at the same time. More importantly, although the personal lives of the doctors and nurses come into play, they are rarely the main emphasis of what we see each week. All of this is clearly established in the pilot episode.

When you watch the pilot movie, now six years old, there are two things to keep in mind. First, the original script began with Susan Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) being rudely awaken, not Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards). Think what a difference that would have made to the show. Second, pay attention to the difference in the characterization of Peter Benton (Eriq LaSalle) in the pilot, which is definitely the one role that changed the most, even more so than Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) who was originally slated to die from her overdose. Of course, it was nice to see George Clooney in "E.R." since I remember him so fondly from his first television series, "E/R."

5.0 out of 5 stars The most accurate and outstanding medical drama ever!, April 5, 2000

"ER" is the best medical drama ever. It has a little bit of gore for realization. The characters are well developed and deep ( with the acception of cleo ) Every eppisode has humor, an amount of seriousness and romance (not chick flicky either). The actors and actresses are very good, and the supporting actors are good too. they add a lightness to the more tragic eppy's, which there are some that can get to you. this show provides a typical day in a chicago general emergency room , filled with excitment! where you'll find bumbling medical students(lol) , knowledgable surgons , stressed out "ER" residents, and the calm and cool nurses that keep things running as smoothly as the "ER" can get!
