This really is the best carrier for saving Mom and Dad's back. When I first opened it I thought it was way too big for me (I'm a 5'5" woman, 140 lbs) but after putting it on and having the hubby do some strap adjustments, we got it to fit right. I would say it is the best choice for a 3 month or older baby. Before 3 months it was just too big for my son. We didn't have the infant insert, which probably would have made a difference, but I wouldn't guarantee that because it really just seemed like there was too much going on for a newborn.

After 3 months of age, I LOVE the Ergo for hiking and any time I want to "wear" my son for longer than 20 minutes. It is so comfortable...I hardly feel the weight of my 18 lb 6 month old. Also love the fact that It converts into a back carrier so we will be able to use it for years to come. Made the price tag a little easier to swallow.

We have also had (and used) the Baby Bjorn, the Moby wrap, and a sling. The Bjorn was better for when my son was 1-3 months because it is smaller than the Ergo, and now that he is 6 months old it is better for when he really wants to face forward. (Note: I don't like keeping my son in the Bjorn longer than 20 minutes because it is not as good for him ergonomically. It starts to become uncomfortable on his thighs and his crotch.)

My boy really doesn't mind facing me and I think inward facing works better for when he is sleepy...he can just fall asleep on my chest and I can go about my business. The Moby wrap was my favorite for facing him forward when he was younger. You can't face your baby forward in the Bjorn until they can support their heads really well. My son hated the sling, but lots of moms I've talked to say that was the best for their newborns.

I researched carriers for a long time. I am so thankful I bought the Ergo Sport! My daughter is 15 months old and we have been using it regulary since before she was 5 months old! I thought about the Mei Tai, but am so glad I didn't get it. My cousin has it wishes she had the Ergo!
The Ergo takes some practice but quickly you are able to wear baby in front, back, or side. I use it for front or back. I still carry my daughter around the grocery store with her in front of me, it is an easy way to control a toddler while grocery shopping and I get tons of feed back on how good she is (smiling and happy). It is easy to breastfeed in (I pull out of the top of my shirt and put an udder cover over top). I also love the back pack postion and use it for carrying groceries up 2 flights of stairs! Hiking or walking! Doing dishes when my toddler is grumpy and just wants to be held. It is so wonderful! The hood is also an asset as it holds her head in perfectly while she sleeps. I leave the hood out while she is in the back position so I can grab the straps and pull them over my shoulders to attach them. YES, I do get her on my back all by myself and have never had help doing so. (I used a mirror at first, but quickly did it by watching her as I put her behind me). I also use to use this to walk up hill on the treadmill during her morning nap when she was a little baby for exercise as it got her to sleep quickly and helped me get in shape faster. For reference, I am about 5'4 and normal weight. My daughter has always been the correct weight for her height (normal baby fat) and is in the 90 percentile for both. She is over 26 lbs now and very tall. I chose the sport instead of the cotton because I felt it would breathe better as baby wearing of any kind does get warm. I have been happy with my choice.

We received this as a baby shower gift and have used the carrier since our little one came home from the hospital. My husband uses it while working in the shop and around the house. I use it while doing chores, grocery shopping, and hiking. Even the grandparents use it while babysitting. The infant insert was essential during the first few months. Now at ten months when my little one sees the carrier she welcomes it with open arms.

We have tried various slings and the bjorn, and the ergo is superior by far. The back support and position of the baby makes this the most comfortable carrier ever! We have recommended this carrier to many expecting parents and gift givers alike. If I could give the carrier more than five stars, I would!

I received this carrier as a gift for my second baby as she wanted to be held all day which wasn't possible with a toddler running around. Although, I am not a "baby wearer" I could not survive a day without my husband around without this carrier! I would put my newborn baby girl in the carrier (use infant insert) when tired and she was asleep within a few minutes which left me free to take care of my toddler. I was also able to transfer her gently out of the carrier and swaddle her to put her in her bouncy seat. In addition, I use this carrier when I go to the store with both kids, and I sometimes get comments that people didn't even realize I was wearing a baby. My toddler is small (22 pounds), but Ergo isn't kidding when they said you can wear a toddler on your back. We've put our toddler on my back a few times (it does take two people at first, but with practice you could do it by yourself. Also, there are helpful you tube videos online) just for fun and it's surprisingly comfortable. Even Daddy likes to wear the baby in the Ergo when she's having trouble going down for a nap, or it's particularly cold outside. As for comfort with my newborn, WOW! I was on my feet at a Christmas party when she was just two months old and I wore her for THREE hours without any problem. Another day my husband wore her for 3 hours (asleep) at the zoo with our toddler and we almost forgot she was there. Last week I pulled out my baby bjorn air just for giggles and wanted it off within 5 minutes because the Ergo was just that much more comfortable (my 3 month old is ONLY 12 pounds).

In conclusion, this carrier is worth every penny because it provides security for the baby, comfort for mommy or daddy, and the freedom to truly be hands-free. My only regret is not purchasing one sooner!
