Ergonomically-Correct Positioning

The Ergobaby Organic Collection baby carrier hugs and cradles your baby in the recommended seated position, also known as the "M" position. In the carrier, your child's weight is supported along the back of the thighs, which keeps your child in a spread-squat position with knees at or above the belly button.

Three Ways to Carry: Front, Hip, and Back

The Ergobaby Organic Collection baby carriers give you three ways to carry your child: in the front, at the hip, or on the back. In the Front Carry position (ideal for infants), the baby is cradled in the natural sitting position. This allows baby to focus on the parent or parent's face and to turn away from overwhelming external stimuli. When baby is old enough (about 6 months or up to 45 pounds), you can switch to the Hip or Back Carry position. This way baby can see everything around, yet still be snug and comfy against the parent's body.

Use from Birth with Infant Insert

Ergobaby's Organic Collection baby carrier can be used from birth (7 pounds or more) up to 45 pounds. During baby's first months, the carrier must be used with the Ergobaby Infant Insert (sold separately). The Infant Insert supports baby's entire spine, versus just the neck, to ensure the health and safety of your infant when in the Front Carry position. At four to five months, or when baby has sufficient spine and neck strength to support the head, the carrier can be used without the Infant Insert.

I have a million carriers. Not really but it seems that way. We just had our second child and we are living in temporary housing circumstances before going overseas. We don't have much space and I need to buy as little as possible. I have a Babyhawk carrier that I love (it's beautiful and I chose the color pattern on both sides). I use it still but this Ergo is a much, much better carrier.

You can put the Ergo on much more easily and it fits to your size without requiring adjustment (or long straps). It also puts the weight all on your hips. I stand up straight without a problem. I can carry my heavy baby all day without feeling any pain. BTW, unless your baby is very small, do not bother with the infant insert. You can just fold up a baby blanket and position it around the baby's head. The Ergo was worth every penny.

So I purchased this item from J & A Trading fulfilled by Amazon before reading the full reviews. Once I started reading up I realized the chances of it being a counterfeit were good. Here is some information I gathered from the process;
The fakes are very close. There are multiple websites claiming the differences. Well I think the counterfeiters are using those blogs to improve their fakes. All the old telltale signs like whether the label is the right color, whether there are mispellings, whether the buckles say "Stealth" or not are not reliable signs of fakes anymore.
I received my carrier and things seemed legit. The only thing funny was the instruction manual was in color and I saw on one website that it should be in black and white. Also the buckles did not say "Stealth". The stitching was reinforced in some areas but there was an area where the stitching was askew. The packaging was faded but it didn't seem off as I purchased a Ergo organic backpack at the same time and its box looked the same in terms of print style. It came in a plastic bag which I read was a giveaway of the fake. The label was a little off color and maybe just a bit crooked. I think the big thing was that the fabric of the back pack seemed significantly softer than the carrier.
Not convinced either way I contacted Ergo. This is what they told me: #1 Serial numbers don't mean anything anymore the counterfeiters are faking that too. #2 The only way to ensure that you have the genuine article is to buy from a Ergobaby approved resaler. #3 THERE ARE CERTIFIED RETAILERS ON AMAZON! She gave me a short list as I could not pull up anything on their website. Thinkfasttoys, Healthchecksysyems, and diapers.com. When in doubt just call Ergo 18884164888. They are extremely helpful....
I ordered another carrier from thinkfasttoys and am returning the other. It may be the real McCoy but I don't want to risk it when it comes to carrying my son. I've taken pictures of it so as to compare to the new one. I'll be back with an update!
Update!
I received the Ergobaby from Thinkfasttoys and oh my goodness! The ones from J & A Trading are most definitely fake! The carrier arrived in a much better quality box with no misspellings (the counterfeit misspelled "component" on the top). There was no plastic bag on the carrier. The registration card was attached to the carrier, the padding is significantly thicker, and the fabric is clearly of a better quality and softer.
Make sure you check that the supplier you choose is certified from Ergobaby! Don't make the same mistake I did and pay out the nose for an inferior product! Read more ›

We have the ERGObaby Organic Baby Carrier in Green River Rock. Let me start by saying that this carrier has been a savior during the last few weeks (I'll explain why later).

I had my doubts at first. Baby had just reached 12 lbs when we received the carrier and I would put her in it and she DID NOT like it. At this point, we were still using the Moby Wrap, but it had become horrible for my back and was less supportive than it once had been for my growing baby. At first, every time I would put her in the Ergo, she would fuss until she eventually fell asleep because she just didn't like it. Then one day, I put her in it..and it magically looked like she had grown a few inches, and she was perfectly content in it.

Back to the savior part. The last few weeks have been rough. She's growing and becoming easily distracted. That said, during feedings she has been a nightmare! She'll be starving but will cry and cry when I put her to the breast to eat. The ONLY way she will eat is if I put her in the Ergo and walk around the house, then she'll eat and slowly drift off to sleep. I wear this thing 75% of the day most days.

The carrier also makes breastfeeding in public a breeze. Most people can't even tell what I'm doing when I'm feeding her and will walk right up to me without a second glance. The only thing that even makes it the slightest bit noticeable is my hand tucked in their holding up the boob for baby. lol It took some getting used to, but we finally have it down and now it's just second nature.

The ONLY thing I don't like about the Ergo carrier is the fact that it's very difficult for me to reach the back strap to buckle it.... I have it positioned where it needs to be to keep the straps in place, but the only way I can snap it is by letting the strap out ALL the way and then flexing my arm as far as it will go behind me and then snapping it. It took some practice, but I finally got it (even though it's still a little uncomfortable reaching my hand all the way back there!) If I'm out with hubby or a friend, I just ask them to do it, so it's no problem; but when I'm out alone it's a little bit more difficult.

We have the organic cotton, so I can't vouch for the original, but this carrier is very soft. I also heard someone say that they didn't even like the Ergo until they got the organic cotton and then fell in love.

I love in Oklahoma, so I went back and forth on whether I should buy this one, or the Ergo sport, as it's supposed to be more breathable. The Ergo sport, is, I believe, made from synthetic fibers which are supposed to be more breathable. I don't know about that, as I've always heard that natural fibers are more breathable and as far as I'm concerned, it's the baby that makes baby wearing hot, not the carrier, so I opted for this one! So far, our bellies have gotten pretty sweaty while out and about, but nothing too unbearable. Actually, baby is asleep on my right now in our carrier and the only spot that's sweaty is where her head is rested on my chest and the difference in synthetic and natural fibers won't change that. :)

Anyway, if you want a carrier that is comfortable (no pain in my back unless I'm leaning an awkward way to feed her), looks good and hold the baby correctly (no crotch dangling!) then this is the carrier for you! Like, I said, it's been a heaven send the last few weeks and it's one of the only ways I can get things done around the house!

OH! I forgot to mention: I've been trying to get baby to take a bottle for the last few weeks because I have to be somewhere this summer away from her for a few hours and I need her to be able to eat while I'm away. I've had NO success with this endeavor until last night I gave her the bottle IN the Ergo and she took an ounce from it! I have no idea if it was because she was a little sleepy or if something magical is sewn into this carrier, but it was the first time she'd sucked on a bottle since we began trying! :)

I owned an Ergo when my first son was born in 2006. It was helpful in the airports and I was glad to have it but now that I am on to my third baby and have spent some time reading reviews and watching usage videos I believe that the Beco is a better investment. First off it is cheaper if you consider that in order to use the Ergo with an infant you have to buy the $25 infant insert. The Bedo comes with all you need for infant to toddler. Also the Beco Butterfly 2 has a fantastic second panel that "locks" the baby in so that you can unhook the hip belt to re-adjust or to move baby from front position to back position without him falling out the bottom. It is just a better design in that respect. All else is about the same. The shoulder straps offer the same comfort and padding and so does the waist belt. There are a few good reviews on youtube if you are interested in seeing the differences.
