Customer Reviews

I own this carrier as well as the original ergo.
shwillia
It folds into itself into a bag we can throw in our diaper bag, though it takes some practice with the folding!

Its super lightweight but supports baby very well.

We recently got the navy Stowaway for travel and it's great! I much prefer it to our other carriers* for travel due to its compact nature. While it is ever-so-slightly less supportive than some of our other carriers, I actually find the softer, more flexible waistband to be more comfortable than the classic Ergo (my hip bones are pretty pointy and don't have their own padding on the front). My husband finds this carrier cooler to wear than our others. I'll agree with other reviewers who stated that the fit is identical to the classic Ergo. For reference, our son is 20 months and weighs about 25lbs. My husband and I each carried him for ~1hr stretches on a recent trip.

A few improvements I would like to see in the next iteration of the Stowaway:
-Please put a snap in the carry loop so that it can hang from a stroller.
-I would prefer the lining of the straps to be a smooth athletic wicking jersey (or maybe Velvetex like Camelbak uses for their women's packs?). I find that the coarse mesh chafes my skin if I'm wearing a tank top and I'm afraid it might snag/pull a synthetic fabric.

Things I don't love about any of the Ergo carriers:
-The carrier body should really be a few inches taller to accommodate toddlers. The short body allows my son to move around too much, which destabilizes the two of us -- and he's 20 months and short! It would be very challenging to use this carrier up to the stated weight limit without a little extra height.
-I am petite and thus prefer a carrier with crossing straps for front carries. My husband is taller and broader than I, so he prefers backpack-style. Our Pikkolo gives both options, so perhaps Ergo can look into offering this as well.
-It would be soooo nice if Ergo could be used without the infant insert.

I really wanted to like this because we live in Florida and between the muggy heat and the rain a thinner easier to dry carrier would be great. However, it is so thin it offers no support for you or baby. It seems a lot smaller than my original carrier or my performance carrier. It barely holds my (admittedly tall) 9 month old, there is no way it would hold my two or three year old, something the other versions of the Ergo do perfectly well. I HATE the mesh shoulder pad lining. It rubs the skin on my shoulders raw within 40 minutes or so.

I know there was a back and forth between some reviewers about the chest buckle, so here's my two cents: It has to be higher than the original. I have no problem with the chest buckle with my other two ergos (original and performance) but even when I adjust everything that can possibly be adjusted the chest strap on this version is uncomfortably high.

Long story short, am returning this and sticking with my original.

Works perfectly like the original. But this is so much lighter and more compact so it's way easier to take everywhere!

So Great! Much lighter than the original. Could not live without it! Not just for travelling. This is our main baby wearing gear.

This is the perfect way to carry a little one anywhere. It is a great weight for using in hot and humid climates.

We have used our Original Ergobaby carrier for 3 children now from infancy to 30 + lb toddlers and have loved it. Last summer we were in need of a second carrier and ordered the Ergobaby Performance. The Performance's description read as if it would meet all our needs. We found it lacking in many ways to the original Ergo and sold it on Craigslist after the summer. This summer again we need to Ergos for our activities. We have a 2 year old toddler and a newborn. When I read about this Travel Collection Carrier I felt it would meet and surpass our love for the ergo original. It does not.

We like the fabric. We like the waste belt. Their are actually two pockets. And it really does fold how it is ment to.

I ordered ours through Amazon from Think baby for $98 - an excellent price with free two day shipping.

BUT it's fit does not compare to the original. The straps are not as padded and long term the comfort level would not be acceptable to me. Also there is not enough room for the chest strap to be placed at an accurate level. For example when toddler is placed on the back, the chest strap crosses at my collar bone rubbing against the front of my neck instead of across my chest like the Original's chest strap does. I have viewed the ergo video of back carry and doesn't show the strap as high as if fit on me and my husband, but if that model/actor moved at all it would have rode up to his neck as well. Also the snaps for the sleeping hood are placed in an inferior position to the Original. When the child is in the back carry position you would have to reach behind you and snap the hood snaps on behind your shoulder and down your back.

If the chest strap could be positioned like on the original we would have kept this travel carrier.

Comfortable for both my husband and me. Love how it folds into itself for easy storage. Used without any inserts.

I have an original and this travel Ergo. I am short (but not petite) and love this carrier! I prefer this one to my original because it is easy to pack along. Just last week I carried my 30-pound 3-year-old in it on a 4-mile hike and then all around Badlands National Park. I felt it was just as comfortable as doing the same with my original carrier.
