It was so easy to install this replacement icemaker in my Kenmore Elite fridge. Took a total of about 10 minutes. All parts and directions were included so it was no problem to put in.

Just one thing to remember - if your old icemaker hasn't been working for a while, once you put in the new icemaker, you will most likely need to defrost the freezer so the water line can thaw. I forgot about that when I first installed this new icemaker so I was disappointed when it didn't work right away. Then I remembered that the water line to the freezer was probably frozen since our icemaker had been broken for about 6 months. Once I turned the fridge off and let it sit for about 4-5 hours, I plugged it back in and in maybe an hour or two I had ice cubes again! Awesome.

Oh yeah - one more thing - you'll want to throw away the first few batches of ice from the new icemaker because the water in the line will probably be stagnant (if the old icemaker was broken for a while).

I am very pleased with my purchase and happy I installed the part myself. I saved about $80 over purchasing the same part directly from Sears, and about $145 over having some repair person do it for me.

Excellent!

Item arrived on time and instructions were clear. However, even though this was the correct "replacement" part for my fridge, apparent this "replacement" part is also used on other brand and model number fridges as well. Unfortunately, in an attempt to have this unit function as a universal replacement for multiple refrigerators, not everything lined up. The power harness was ok, but not as good of a quality as the one I took out. Worse, the top "neck" where the water enters wasn't tall enough and water splashed out when the ice tray refilled making a mess in my freezer. The good news was that the only thing inoperative on my old ice maker was the motor and it was completely interchangeable with the new one. So to solve my problem, I used only the motor from the new unit and was able to reuse everything else from my old ice maker.

I bought this for our Kenmore Elite. It took me all of 15 minutes to install...it began working immediately! This is a simple DIY job even for a novice. We don't have to buy bagged ice anymore!

I did not receive a mounting bracket, screws or instructions. Luckily, the screws and mounting bracket from my old unit fit flawlessly on the new one and it only took a little fiddling around to figure out how to remove/replace it. The unit is making ice, and I have no complaints there. So I guess the moral of the story is don't bother to pay extra for an exact fit - all of these units seem to be widely used with a variety of mounting hardware.

I just installed this unit and it works great, happy to have ice again. I read other reviews about this and some complained about having to reuse parts but if you have ever replaced anything in your life you will know that most things that you will replace will not come with all the related parts. The related parts didn't break just the ice maker....All that was reused the mounting tray and wire harness. Anyways it works good and had it installed in 15 minutes.

I have a Kenmore Elite model number 795.77579600.
This icemaker did not fit and had different connections.
I suggest the description to be more specific about what model of Kenmore fridges it is compatible with.
Returning the item, but frustrated I'm out the money for shipping to and back.

The unit was shipped promptly and arrived in good shape. Like others have said, this is an aftermarket replacement icemaker. As long as you've kept you're old hardware, it installs easily and most importantly, it works!

Found & ordered a replacement ice maker from 'parts house'. We installed it, and it said to wait 24 hours for ice. It did not produce ice, but appeared to have slightly slipped out of place. We started all over, and after another 24 hours, no ice. I then sent an email to the supplier asking if there was anything they could suggest before I returned it as defective. NO RESPONSE. Since I was at the end of the 30 day return window, I requested a return. Again, NO RESPONSE! I could find no phone number or other way to contact, so after several days, I requested a credit & return through Amazon. I was told I was beyond the time limit. Emailed & 'chatted' with Amazon and they issued a return authorization, and notified the supplier. Amazingly, the supplier's deaf dumb act subsided long enough to cancel the authorization. I'm now out the money & will be very careful about which suppliers I use on Amazon!
