Made in USA with the best warranty in the business.

Most days I carry it inverted hanging from an inside jacket pocket, other days it finds it way onto my belt, or clipped in my right front pants pocket.

So, it's half customer satisfaction and half product performance for me when I buy a knife.

The factor that sets the 3mil apart from the other ESEE 3 series knives is the sheathing options that come with it, it's like getting 3 sheaths with one knife. Any reasonable way you can imagine to carry this knife; ESSE has already thought about it. As for the knife itself; the blade is a bit thinner than the 4 series but I don't see that as a downside considering it is still fantastically strong even while being lightweight, which is good for backpackers such as myself. Also a very important selling point that I didn't see listed was the fact that ESEE has a full warranty against blade breakage and abuse. Simply put, you break it in half and ESEE will reward your superhuman strength with a new knife! Just visit the warranty info page at eseeknives.com and see for yourself. Thanks ESEE for such a great product and great service, you guys have a customer for life.

I was in the market for an EDC fixed blade and was torn between the ESEE and Ontario; so I bought both! Having had an opportunity to play with bith, I thought I'd share my thoughts.

First off, these are almost identical knives in terms of design. They were designed by the same folks and it shows. Both fit really well in my hand and had nearly identical handles. The ESEE blade is slightly longer and the pommel extends a bit more into a glass breaker. The mircata feels grippy and comfortable, though if you're looking for a handle that will never show dirt, these are probably not for you. They will look worn out of the box (I kind of like that look) and will age more with use.

The sheaths for both knives are the same molded plastic. The ESEE comes with a couple extra mounting options to include a nylon drop leg, the kydex retention, a plastic boot clip and includes a couple of Bladetch molle clips. The Rat comes with just the plastic sheath, but does include a Bladetech Tek Lok, which is a snazzy mounting option. I much prefer it to the clips the ESEE came with.

I should note, that even though the Tek Lok is a Large, the holes don't line up with all four holes on each side of the blade. You have to pick one side to put two screws into. It holds, but I'm not really happy with that. More on that later.

Each blade has a coating on it. The Rat is more matte, whereas the ESSE has more texture to it. I prefer the feel to the ESEE only because it's different. The ESEE comes to a longer point than the rat by about 1/4". Both blades were sharp out of the box, but the ESEE was noticeably sharper.

In the end, I decided to only keep one knife, and that was the ESSE. This came down to personal preference really.

If you know what ESSE knives are then just choose the size you want and enjoy. If not then I would highly recommend any of their knives for real hard use tools. This model 3 is a perfect for EDC. It rides light and tight on the belt with paracord or tec lok. I pair it with a bench made mini grip for my edc and a ESSE 5 for camp use. It would be perfect with a Junglass for backpacking. Great knife from what I think is the best value for your dollar in fixed blade knives. Oh yeah. Made in USA with the best warranty in the business.

Ok, I dig the knife and the sheath system. The knife is perfect for me.
The sheath system is also great. With the clip attachment it just isn't really concealable. I just ended up tying it to my belt with paracord. With the sheath under my clothing it is well concealed.
I think the 3 is the perfect size for many tasks and every day use. I'm thinking about purchasing an izula II. I do not believe the larger size Esee models would be as useful for me.

AN AWESOME SHEATH SYSTEM!

This is a complete setup that is totally customizable to what ever style you are into carrying. Which is a huge improvement for those who are left handed or prefer boot, belt or scout carry.

Also with a tough finish, stout grind lines and thick spine, it will take what ever you can dish out! (You can't go wrong at all!)

I wanted a fixed blade knife capable of fitting in my pocket while sheathed, and the ESEE 3Mil fit the bill. Even with my most shallow jeans pocket only an inch of the handle is visible. With most of my dress slacks and khaki pants it completely vanishes. Except for the time I had a hole in my pocket and it fell out on the ground - but that's a review for another section. I've had it for more than a year and it has been the best knife purchase I've made.

Cutting:

I have used it in the most tactical of situations - opening amazon boxes, IKEA boxes, and junk mail. It cuts rope, cardboard, wood, and plastic like a champ.

Scales (grips):

I have the linen micarta scales and enjoy the feel, look, and grip. They have darkened over time with use. When wet they provide exceptional performance.

Rust:

The business edge of the blade will rust if not taken care of. However, it disappears when sharpened.

Overall:

I'm glad I made the purchase and would do it again should I lose this one.

This knife is the greatest value for a hunting/skinning knife, self-defense knife, and camp chore knife. This knife is not an axe, and probably shouldnt be used for batoning, but for what it does do, it nears perfection. If its quality and performance doesnt grab you, then its no questions asked life time warranty should. If you chip it batoning a cinder block, or if you crack it because you were using it as a shooting steel for your high powered rifle, just send it in, and they will replace it for the rest of the knife's lifetime. It comes sharp, and the PLASTIC sheath is easily as good as kydex. Best full tang 3-4 inch fixed blade that has ever been sold. use this knife in it's context, and do not use it contrary to its proper use and you will never have to use your warranty.
