ESL activities for grade school and adults,
By Ohpattigee "Patti" (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ESL Reading and Spelling: Games, Puzzles, and Inventive Exercises (Paperback)
I have used this book all year round and several times for the games, number, colors, spelling, and body/clothing material. EASY and Plain to reproduce activities. I have also used as a springboard to invent my own curiculum. I will continue to use.If I should get new students, I would get another book I am a volunteer teaching those who are refugees from Burma/Thailand. The adult ones I teach have nearly zero English skills and they like the pages from book. The kids like to do them to reinforce their schoolwork. I have found most material is so very unrealistic and plain not suitable for those who come to USA with little or no skills in English and Grammar. However, I am looking for fresh resources that involve more creative arts and kinetic hands on activities. I am open to suggestions!

Just for Kids,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ESL Reading and Spelling: Games, Puzzles, and Inventive Exercises (Paperback)
I teach ESL to adults. When I purchased this book, it was not clear from itsdescription that the exercises were intended for young audiences. Other than one short reading passage, I found nothing of use for my students. With adult learning situations one has to be particularly sensitive to the age- appropriateness of materials. Adult students come to class aware of their language deficits, and committed to improving them. Kiddie material demeans the best intentionsof both teacher and students.

More Usable Classroom Games Needed,
This review is from: ESL Reading and Spelling: Games, Puzzles, and Inventive Exercises (Paperback)
There are a few activities in this book that I think will be usable in the class of beginning English speakers that I'll have over the summer. Much of the book, however, wouldn't work especially well for this application.
