This is the second five string I've owned and the twentieth I've played and I wouldn't pick anything else. The tone from the active pickups in smooth and rich. There are volume knobs for each pickup and a tone knob that seems to incorporate phase as well. Don't forget to unplug it when you are done playing, it will drain the 9V overnight (that's me being stupid, not the instrument)
