Editorial Reviews

Before Michael and Magic, before Jackie and Ali, Goose Tatum was not just the most popular black athlete in the world, he was the most popular athlete in the world … period. His never-before-seen blend of athletic skill, comedic timing and showmanship ensured sold-out arenas around the world and made Goose a global celebrity, despite the segregated society of the time. At the height of his fame, Goose left the franchise he helped build and pioneered free agency, based on the simple principle of self-worth. He proceeded to create astounding wealth as an entrepreneur in the face of the most challenging human conditions, providing a beacon of hope to legions of individuals. Interspersed with interviews from luminaries including Dr. J, Oscar Robertson, Bill Cosby, Jerry West, Mannie Jackson, Marques Haynes, Ernie Banks, and Dr. Jack Ramsay, the story spans decades and shows the widespread influence of Goose on prominent sports, entertainment and business figures. Mannie Jackson presents the untold story of an American icon who changed the game of basketball forever and inspired an entire generation along the way.

If you love 30 for 30 docs, you won't be disappointed. Wonder where some of the antics of NBA players and And1 guys have come from? Goose and the Globetrotters started it. This film isn't all fun and games though. It's a trip down a road that many want to travel but few have the heart to. It might be a heartbreaking tribute to a great performer and human being. #30for30 #film #documentary #hoop

Saw him in person when I was very young......he absolutely would have been a star in the pros....he was pretty much too tough to really stop for any extended time period in any given game.....clown prince, yes....awesome talent way ahead of his time.....also.....yes......great product......really enjoyed it......Kent Oram
