2.0 out of 5 stars Franchise mode is a NIGHTMARE
After being out of the gaming loop for years (my last system was a Sega Genesis) I got the itch to play games again.
Did a little research and kept hearing that the XBOX was the best system out there and that NFL2K5 was better than Madden.
I went out and both the XBOX and NFL2K5.
As far as game play, it's great. But that's where it ends.

5.0 out of 5 stars It can't get any better than this!, February 18, 2005

well i do admitt the franchise mode is a little bit complicated, and yes you can save the franchise mode, it took me 20 min to figure out how. Well i been playing football games all my life so it was sorta like a walk in the park for me. Now the gameplay is the best part of this game, and that the most important part of any game. The only thing i hate about franchise mode is that you can't switch side, honesty i hate playing defence, i prefer offense all the time.

The main con of this game is all sport game including madden is that the announcer keep saying the same thing over again, so i just turn off their voice recording sound, and listen to the on field sound, the good part is you can rip your own music, so i listen to simple plan and vice squad and play football!

This game is far better than madden.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Greatest Games Ever, August 14, 2004

For many years the SEGA football games always seem to be beat by EA Sports game Madden Football. This year it is different. Everything is pretty much perfect about this game. The game play is excellent with the maximum tackle and passing. The online V.I.P.'s very usefull when practicing to defeat that certain person online. THis game is most definately a MUST have. Also you might want to buy this game from your local video game store where they sell it for only $20.

4.0 out of 5 stars good game, good price, good tmes, July 18, 2004

(...)

alright, for those who dont know about 2k series, it originate on the dreamcast by the same lovely people who did the original maden...and since ea wouldnt make a madden for dc, sega made their own

and thank god they did

graphics 10/10
optimized the xbox hardware to make a great lookin game

sound 10/10
same great commentary from espn and features custom soundtracks to play in the stadium, and can be triggered for certain events...like a touchdown, a 4th down conversion, etc...

gameplay 9/10
gameplay is solid as a rock, but the reason why i gave it a 9 is because madden can do it SLIGHTLY better...not much though...madden just has a few touches on the gameplay

presentation 10/10
the espn liscence is awesome in this game, it feels like a sunday on the coach watching espn...but you are in control of it all...
other nice touches are the vip system, what this is is a sophisticated system that will monitor your playing abilities, or your oppenet, and create an ai based off your perfered players, plays, and style...this way, you can practice offline before going against your friends. also included are many nfl coaches and several b-celebrities

overall 10/10
this game is a steal (...), and sega is great for doing this...you might be the biggest madden nut EVER, but still give this a go (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars PLEASE BE ADIVSED OF THE LOWER PRICE!!!!, July 23, 2004
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: ESPN NFL 2K5 (Video Game)
Please be advised that ESPN NFL 2K5 is ONLY $19.99!!! I have no idea of why it is listed as 49.99 on this website, but anywhere else that you look including stores such as Best Buy, Ebgames, and Game Stop, you can pick your copy up for 19.99. This is an excellent price to pay to hold everyone over for the bigger football title Madden 2005, however, 49.99 isn't. DON'T MAKE A COSTLY MISTAKE!!! Buy ESPN 2K5 for ONLY 19.99... not a penny more other than tax of course!!! (Please disregard this message once Amazon.com updates the price which currently reflects 49.99 (7/23/2004)

2.0 out of 5 stars Franchise mode is a NIGHTMARE, December 25, 2004
By

This review is from: ESPN NFL 2K5 (Video Game)
After being out of the gaming loop for years (my last system was a Sega Genesis) I got the itch to play games again.
Did a little research and kept hearing that the XBOX was the best system out there and that NFL2K5 was better than Madden.
I went out and both the XBOX and NFL2K5.
As far as game play, it's great. But that's where it ends.
After playing some warm up games for about a week, I decided to try franchise mode and play a season.
This is where the problems begin.
NOWHERE in the instruction manual does it explain how to save a game after playing week 1 and then return to play game two at a later date. It give absolutely ZERO information on how to do this. It also doen't give any information AT ALL about the franchise mode in any way.
Basically, the manual tells you franchise mode exists, that's it.
The franchise mode is the most complicated part of the game, yet NO information is printed in the manual about it or how to use it, zero, zilch, nothing.
The entire franchise mode is left for the player to figure out for themselves, half of the options are very difficult to figure out because there is no info printed in the manual about it.
The only info printed in the manual is what the buttons on the controller, do that's it.
If you're new to the system and the game you're f*cked.
How they can omit all this information from the manual is totally inexusable. Whoever was in charge of designing the manual should be FIRED.
The game plays great, but the franchsie mode is a total nightmare.
It could have been an awsome game but it may as well be in Chinese because I can't make heads or tails on how to save a played game in franchise mode and then return at a later date to play the second game on the schedule.
Instead they have tons of garbage that isn't needed like crib points and other useless nonsense.
I would have given this game 5 stars but it lost 3 stars due to the absolute absurdity of the franchsie mode, very confusing and not user friendly AT ALL.
Creatling profiles, overriding profiles, trying to exit a game after saving it but being told all the information and the profile will be lost, give me a break.
This is a great way to frustrate your customer base into not wanting to play your game.
The NFL probably decided on signing an exclusive deal with EA Sports after they tried using the fanchise mode on NFL2K5.
I've never seen that much important information about a game left out of the instruction manual, unbelievable.
