5.0 out of 5 stars SSX? You must be kidding, ESPN is the best boarding game out
If you are a true boarder you will see this game blows SSX away. SSX is a fun game but eventually the cuteness of the game will drive you insane. In ESPN Snowboarding you get all well know riders from Peter Line to Tara Dakidas(sorry I have no idea how you spell that.) Also the game is very realistic from the snow you wipe off your board to the zipper on your jacket this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but a little to hard
This Game has great graphics and I would say the graphics are any bit as good or better than ssx. The game is really fun but it's really hard. I can usually beat any game that is centered towards tricks but this one is just to hard.It seems like i'm always coming in 5'th place...Overall I would reccomend buying ssx before I would this game.Infact I've liked playing...

4.0 out of 5 stars It's fun for real borders!, July 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: ESPN Winter X-Games: Snowboarding (Video Game)
I own both SSX and Winter X games and I do enjoy playing both games, and I rate them both 4 stars! X games is truely a snowborder's game. It's not as flashy as SSX, great snowboarder feeling, getting sponsored is ... sweet!! DC shoes baby! People might think ssx maybe better cuz it's really easy to get into, your average poser can plug it in and just play! Where X game it's not that easy, you have to take time to learn how to play. It will take a while to get used to, but once you get a hang of it, you shouldn't have any problems. One complaint though in snowboarder's mode, you should first start of with money so you can buy different lift passes and get some practice in other words than that it's still... fun to play.

Also the game is very realistic from the snow you wipe off your board to the zipper on your jacket this game kills SSX. I strongly suggest you go out and buy this game or if your not a real boarder then maybe you should get SSX.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are You a hardcore rider ?, January 3, 2001

First off i would like to say WOW ! I have owned this game for a while and I am simply amazed. ESPN certainly hit the jackpot with this game. From rider details, boards, to the mountain and overall gameplay its simply astounding. Also its realistic, you cant throw anything like a 1200 spin like you do in "cool boarders", so you cant really "cheat". If your a rider you can understand where i am comming from. Wanna know how good it is? If you have a new snowboard by basically any top brand name.....no less then 2-3 years old i bet your board is on here, as well as your favorite goggles....heck maybe even your snowboard pants. And amazon I beleive said there is a course designer, I cant seem to remember that? Possibly has something to do If you beat the game i suppose? Anyway I persoanly feel this is the "best" snowbaord game out, possibly best PS2 game out !

4.0 out of 5 stars SSX better, but this is close, October 28, 2000

I enjoyed playing the SSX snowboard game but this one is a close second. I really enjoyed the excellent graphics and sound, some of the control combinations for moves were difficult to get used to but once you do, it is second nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars X-games vs. SSX, February 6, 2001

This game is usually compared to ssx considering that they are the only two snowboarding games on the market for the playstation 2 cool boarders 2001 will be out in a couple of weeks but it will be like the other four cool boarder games; boring. ESPN Winter X-games has not only better grafics but also better gameplay, it has an amazing single player mode, you can play up 5 at a time on the killer boaderx or the superpipe, slopestyle or big air. This is a must have. If you want realisem this is the game to get. Some other good games are MADDEN 2001, Ridge Racer 5 and Armored Core 2.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great graphics, but takes too long to get to action., January 4, 2001

I love the game when I get to the snowboarding parts, but its way too much work getting to ride. The graphics are really sweet. I love the way snow gets kicked up into the camera when you land, but I dont know if I can get over the glaringly annoying features of this game:

1) I feel like I am playing one of those Barbie dress-up games when I get to buy coats, pants, and goggles, give me a break. New equipment such as boards and bindings make sense, but jackets?!?!
2) Too much menu wrangling to get to the actual game play. If I lose a competition, there is no retry button. You have to go back to the lodge and walk over to the cheesy box head guy and enter all over again. Then at the end of the run you have to choose between replay and proceed, with the default always being proceed. Its just a major hassle. They should learn from Tony Hawk. They have it down.
3) Too much loading, especially in multiplayer session stuff. Nobody likes spending more time loading than playing.
4) Not enough thought put into the session competitions. For instance, there is one race with rails and windy, narrow lanes that have huge drop-offs on either side, if you fall off either side, you lose. It ends rather abrubtly this way, right before either player can get into it. Why not just send the rider back to the beginning of the course?

For anyone who truly rides and follows the sport of snowboarding this game is absolutely for you. The game far exceeds all of my expectations concerning graphics, gameplay, and simulation. For those looking for a more arcade non-sim type game go for ssx but for those who snowboard this game kills it in all senses of the phrase. EVERYBODYS GOTTA EAT and this is the way to do it..
