Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Whether you're looking for a more energy-efficient way to cruise the neighborhood or you just love yourself a little scooter style, the Go-Ped ESR750EX electric scooter is an ideal choice. The 2008 version of the city scooter includes a host of improvements over earlier incarnations, including an innovative self-adjusting chain tensioner, significantly thicker and more powerful rare Earth magnets, and a higher rpm operation to improve efficiency. Add these improvements to the original design--which won the 2004 Electric Scooter of the Year award from Electric Scooter World--and you have a terrific long-range scooter for both adults and kids.

The scooter owes its powerful performance to its ESR engine, which is equipped with a robust and well-proven DC brush-type motor with an "Electro Head" finned heat sink. The motor is capable of producing more than 1 horsepower in continuous operation and reaching top speeds of more than 20 miles per hour (in Turbo mode), with thrilling levels of acceleration. The high output also helps the scooter tackle steep hills with ease--a rarity among many electric scooters. The auto-adjusting chain tensioner, meanwhile, incorporates a longer, spring-loaded slot with consistent yet gentle slack elimination to effortlessly stop chain derailments. In the process, the chain adjuster accommodates greater chain "slactitudes" commonly found with various sprocket combinations and changing chain conditions.

From a purely functional perspective, the ESR750EX offers two performance modes and an electronic controller. The rider can choose the Econo mode to go twice as far, half as fast (12 miles per hour), or select the Turbo mode to reach speeds of 20-plus miles per hour. The Turbo mode offers a range of roughly eight miles per charge, while the Econo mode checks in at roughly 12-plus miles. Once you arrive at your destination, simply plug the scooter into any 110-volt or 220-volt household power outlet and its onboard "smart charger" will take over. The ESR750EX is also equipped with a computerized, programmable variable-speed controller. With a wide variety of EPROM (Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory) functions, the controller gives the user the freedom to do not only onboard diagnostics, but also customize performance.

Other features include an aircraft-quality Chromyl frame, a patented cantilevered Chromyl fork, pneumatic 10-inch TT tires, magnesium rims, and a Mad Dog disc braking system. And at only 59 pounds, the ESR750EX still offers the best range-to-weight ratio of any electric scooter in the world. Equipped with a folding frame for easy transport and storage, the ESR750EX measures 48 by 41 by 18 inches (W x H x D) and offers a weight capacity of 400 pounds.

The ESR750EX electric scooter reaches speeds of 20-plus miles per hour in Turbo mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fastest longest lasting electric scooter in its class, January 28, 2009
By Cali David (Los Angeles county, CA) - See all my reviews
I've had the ESR750EX for about 3 months now. It's my 4th or 5th electric scooter. The 750 goes for me about 6.5+ miles in turbo mode with a 150lb rider. What most specs don't tell you is that they are for the "ideal condition" that is no hills, even terrain, no stopping and starting. It'd probably go 9+ miles in economy. In turbo mode its going 20+ mph which I was pleasantly surprised by.

Sealed lead acid batteries (SLA) which the standard ESR750EX has and practically every other scooter are the most common out there and have been. Li-Ion batteries cost hundreds more. A Li-Ion Goped costs double $2000. SLA batteries costing $80 would cost $500 for Li-Ion. They are lighter, hold charges longer but cost more too which is why they aren't on every scooter already.

The Goped 750 is pretty light for what you're getting. An Izip 1000 I had was extremely heavy, 85lbs. Long and clumsy and extremely hard to put in the trunk of my car which I only did 2 or 3 times. It was all solid metal. The LashOut scooter at $399 is your best bet for "off roading" and was my favorite most bang for your buck. It has dual suspension in the back. You can go off curbs, up curbs, on grass without a problem long grass. Big 16" tires very durable and practical not just for off-roading or on dirt. The tire size, deck and suspension gave me a solid very safe sturdy ride and made tight corners easy. The only minor improvement I'd say was the 1/2 inch metal deck's edges could havbe been rounded off more when your legs are against it wearing shorts.

The Goped is good too but doesn't have any suspension but the Razor's, IZIPs and Schwinn's don't either. Because the 750 goes SO fast you'll notice the bumps in the pavement more at first. It is well made and durable, solid wood deck, solid metal frame, and the optional seat attachment is solid metal also but not excessively heavy. Goped is known for being a higher end scooter and is light enough and "compactable" enough to pick up without hurting your back. There is a "break-in" period which the manual states to ride it a few times in econo mode for the batteries to be able to get fully charged.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, excellent deal, May 25, 2009
By Jesse M. (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This is one of the best products I've bought and one of the smartest purchases I've ever made. If you are considering an electric scooter, I highly recommend this model and purchasing it from Amazon.

The scooter is amazing. The accelerator is very sensitive and you will notice a difference in the turbo and economy modes. Once you step on the scooter, you'll fall in love with it. The ride is amazingly smooth and the board is very wide so you have a flawless center of balance. I have ridden this in the streets with cars and feel completely safe (I wear my helmet every single time).

I read something someone wrote about this scooter about how sturdy it is. Let me say that I completely agree with this statement. This thing is built tough! The board is solid and you'll see that you can really open it up on the road and it can take it. Little potholes or indents in the road are no problem. You can even go down a sidewalk step and the scooter will be fine.

The battery life is excellent. In turbo mode it drains down quicker and I think the more weight you carry the faster the battery will wear down. Plus, even if you run out of battery, the scooter can be used like a regular scooter just fine. In fact it works better than a regular scooter when you use your foot to push it, since the rubber wheels are much bigger than a regular scooter's.

My only problem with the scooter is its weight. It weighs a lot. Truly around 60 pounds. Now you might not think it's that much, but I was planning on commuting to my job with this where I have to walk up two flights of stairs. This is a problem, especially since it's very awkward to pick the scooter up. This company has a model called the I-Ped (find their website) which supposedly is lighter and made for commuters.

As for the purchase, Amazon is the best. When I bought it in April it was on sale for under $1,000 (the black model), so keep checking back. If you have Amazon prime, shipping is free. Also, if you don't have the Amazon Visa, it's the perfect time to get it since you get an additional $30 off. Save up any gift certificates you have and you've got yourself quite a deal.

3.0 out of 5 stars A different point of view., July 27, 2008
Bought this praised scooter not so long ago, I have mixed feelings towards this scooter.

It has the best ride of all scooters available, strong motor, good for almost anything, a good battery set gets you to a decent milege and a stron chasis to compliment all the rest. you're getting 5 stars from me on this category.

The down side of this scooter is that it has an extreamly cheap build, allmost like a kid designed the thing and built it in his back yard. nowadays we're used to seeing nothing short of the best build quality on bicycles, motorcycles and other mechanicaly oriented hobbies. I wouldn't have writen about it but it leeds to poor reliability.

I'm also taking one point off because of the weight of the thing, today we have Lithium Ion or Polymer batteris that weigh one third the weight of the current lead acid onse rendering this scooter much less usable. Also about the weight, It's about time Go-Ped made this scooter's chasis from aluminium, much beter weigh and streangth.
