We bought two of these Bibles for our 3 year olds for their birthday. While they won't be reading for some time yet, they wanted a Bible just like mommy and daddy's. The plentiful (over 200)pictures keep them interested during their own quiet times. The extra material in the back is also useful and geared for children including a plan of salvation, memory verses, and a short dictionary of Bible terms. I chose this Bible over other more, simplified Bibles because I wanted a full-text that would last until the children were in middle school. I think I've found it.

The only things I would change -- I would print it on heavier paper. My children are not rough on books, but their fingers have a harder time turning this paper. (Note: this is not onion skin paper, as is common in some Bibles like my Ryrie, but seems to be standard Bible weight paper). I like the amount of pictures, but the style of picture is not my favorite. They all look Greek to me, when fashions changed throughout time. I question how accurate the illustrations are to the exigence of the time periods portrayed.

A great Bible for kids under 14. The BEST feature of this kids Bible is its translation use - the ESV version. This Bible comes also with a great number of pictures, cross-references, introduction, and in the appendinx: a plan of salvation, memory verses, and a short dictionary of Bible terms.

This this Bible tries to accomplish a lot besides providing the most accurate Bible text, such as: introducing Christian theology, encouraging verse memorization, providing a dictionary of terms, including helpful illustrations.

This Bible fails in a number of areas:
1) the images and illustrations are not the best quality or very accurately conveying the time period and culture of the people.
2) the paper quality is quite poor (not onion thin, but could be thicker so the pages do not break so easily). Looks and feels like recycled or poor-quality paper.
3) the audience for this Bible (due to the introduction, the "plan of salvation" (which is about "decision theology"), and the terms chosen to be included in the dictionary) is geared only to the Evangelical American Christians (calvinist theology).

This is by FAR NOT an ecumenical Bible that tries to include Roman-Catholics, Orthodox, Lutherans, or Anglicans in its readership. I was quite dissapointed by the sectarian inclination of this Bible when it came to the extra notes. That is the reason why I could not give this book 5 stars. The Bible text and translation work (ESV version) is great and very accurate.

AND I did buy this copy as a gift for my 5-year old niece whose family is Baptist (the parents were very happy).

THANK YOU for your VOTES (up or down)!

This is the best children's Bible I've ever seen. Period. It is well crafted with a smith sewn binding so that a kid wont destroy it too easily. The pictures in this Bible are excellent, and it also has excellent children's notes and helps in the back. Also, most children's Bibles are so poorly translated and overly paraphrased that they almost shouldn't be called Bibles. Praise God for the ESV Children's Bible which is a real Bible that kids will enjoy and can reap eternal benefits from.

My oldest daughter is 5 1/2, next daughter is 4, and the youngest is 2 1/2. They all understand what I read out of the ESV. It's really cool. We all read from the same translation, and they love that they have a real Bible like Daddy and Mommy. My 5 1/2 year old sometime begins reading the text that I am going to read, and other times she can follow along in her own Bible. We can do it together because she's seeing the exact same words that I'm pronouncing. (Which is also excellent for improving her reading skills.) Sometimes I have to explain certain words, but learning new words is what it means to be a kid. They have a lot of fun giggling while they try to pronounce big words like "pro-pit-ia-tion," then they are very interested to hear me explain what such a fascinating sounding word means--"a wrath removing sacrifice."

I would most highly recommend this Bible to anyone who wants to buy a children's Bible for their kids or for the children of friends and family.

This is not just for children. If you are new to the bible or want a better understanding of it there is no better tool. This bible clearly defines the words that adults are generally expected to know out of the bible. It breaks the stories and their meanings down so well that anyone can understand. I keep it at home and use it often comparing it to my King James version for clarity.

I discovered the ESV Bible a couple years ago and bought one for myself to use. Our current church uses this translation from the pulpit and when I heard they were coming out with a Children's version I ordered one for each of my boys. I like the easy to read format and upon comparing it to my other translastion have never found there to be any loss in meaning. It is the perfect translastion for younger children, The books has beautifully illustrated pictures and is the perfect size for them. MY ESV is a little too big to take to church, but this one is the perfect. I priced it in town at different book stores and found Amazon to be the best price. What better thing could you buy your child then the book that will grow with them and feed their hearts and soul! This book has the words of life in it and that is what everyone needs!

I would recommend the seek and find Esv bible as the art work is far superior. My children found the cartoon like drawings in this bible to be scary. The artwork in the seek and find bible looks like true paintings. And the paper quality is better.

My son loves this new Bible. It is colorful on every page. The text is black; the chapter and verse numbers are red; and the section headings have a peach background. And then, of course, are the numerous illustrations. They are, for the most part, tastefully done. They are realistic and engaging while not being childish.

The paper is thin compared to other children's Bible story-books, such as The Beginning Bible, but seems a little thicker than a standard adult Bible. We love it.

We gave this Bible to our son about a year ago. There are many Bibles in our house, and this one continues to be one of his favorites. Another reviewer complained about the artwork, but our son liked it. I especially like that this Children's Bible doesn't offer in-text interpretation and doesn't have that youth pop look of a lot of other children's Bibles. I only wish in also came in a genuine or imitation leather version for imprinting.

I soooo appreciate that they only stick to bible verses to expend on their visual aids. And that often times they will try to have both Old Testament AND New Testament verses for the image... truly testifying to the fact that the WHOLE bible is true and consistent. I have lost respect for many children's versions out there who have added or taken away from God's word using their own interpretations. We have resolved to take 1 John 2:6 words to heart that if we truly are Christ's, we are to walk in the SAME way in which He walked... therefore our family keeps God's Appointed Feasts (Leviticus 23) which have always pointed to the redemption work of the Messiah. Afterall, He is our Passover Lamb, our Unleavened Bread, the First Fruits of the resurrected souls and the giver of the Holy Spirit (as promised from Jeremiah 31:33 and Ezekiel 36:26) on Shavuot/Pentecost. Fulfilling the Spring feasts perfectly should testify to the truth of God's everlasting and unchanging word and give us the hope of the fulfillment of the Fall Feasts through His Return beginning with Feast of Trumpets aka The Day That No Man Knows (because it can only begin when the New Moon is spotted and cannot be based on previous months' new moons). So when I read about Good Friday, Easter and Christmas in the "explanations" I cringe and can sympathize with Christ's words spoken in Matt 15:7 and Mark 7 which refer to Isaiah 29:13 and Ezekiel 33:31. No man-made tradition, no matter how well intentioned, pleases the LORD when it causes us to reject His everlasting Law... the very redemption gift of His spirit in our hearts! "Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law." (Romans 3:31) just like the early believers did in Acts 21:20 "You see brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed. They are all zealous for the law..." Truly testifying to the truth of Jesus' words in Matthew 5:17-18 that "anyone who does them (law and prophets) and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of Heaven." If Jesus upheld and confirmed the word of His Father and we are to walk as He walked, as believers in His redemption work, we should also confirm the word of God by being doers of it, not just hearers... living our lives set apart and holy for Him.. doing good works as prescribed by Him, which glorify the very Author we claim has redeemed us. This bible layout allows true seeking of His consistent and unchanging Truth without the blinders of biases. I greatly appreciate that.

This Bible is terrific. My kids love it. The illustrations are naturalistic and very well done. The font is a nice size for a young reader. Highly recommend it for children.
