If you are an investment professional and are trading, or interested in trading ETF's this book should be on your desk. I have reviewed several ETF publications in the past few months. I returned all of them except for this one. As we know ETF's are not just another equity. This publication exposes the myth that posted volume of an ETF is its liquidity. It also explains the best method of buying and selling ETF. This point alone can save you hundreds of thousands on transaction fees. (Of course this is on an institutional size trade.) It also empowers you with the knowledge of how the market makers and broker dealers work with these products. With over 800 listed ETF's for just the United States, as a professional money manager you owe it to yourself to read book. It will assist you in doing your due diligence on these investments. As you can tell I think this is a must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book in ETFs, May 24, 2010

Dave Abner has done a superb job. The ETF Handbook is the absolute reference for the novice investor and the seasoned professional. Abner describes in a simple way the introduction process up to exchange listing, trading methods and analyzes the players and the markets. It is the only book that explains how to price an ETF. Smart and detailed, all the information from an industry "insider".

This book is written for the financial professional, not the layman.

I routinely buy and sell ETFs, but this book is too technical for me.

I will use it only for the lists of ETFs included.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Bible" of ETF Information, March 18, 2011
This review is from: The ETF Handbook, + website: How to Value and Trade Exchange Traded Funds (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
I have been in the finance Industry for about 4.5 years & I must say, this is hands down the most clear & informative book available on ETF's. I have been researching ETF's for about 2 years, looking everywhere on the web & reading every book out there. This is by far the most complete book available & should go down as the "go to" reference for ANYTHING ETF related.

Not only does David Abner cover every important piece of information you will need to know, he does so in an easy & clear way of explaining it that anyone from a novice investor to the most advanced traders out there will find helpful.

If you are doing research or just want to expand your knowledge of this HUGE market then this is the only book you need. 99% of the information you will find online is redundant & will be the same information you will find everywhere else. This book on the other hand, takes it to the next level of information; the information you need to have a real grasp on exactly how they work, not only to the retail investor but also to the biggest players on Wall Street.

I am not kidding, save yourself the 500+ hours that I have spent online & just buy this book. You will be very happy you did!

The ETF Handbook by David Abner is hands down THE "Bible" of ETF investing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The latest and best ETF book, October 12, 2010

This review is from: The ETF Handbook, + website: How to Value and Trade Exchange Traded Funds (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
ETFs clearly are a hot topic in finance - the fastest growing asset class these and a revolution in asset management.
Dave Abner's "The ETF Handbook" is the most recent and most complete handbook on ETFs.
The book stands out by virtue of its comprehensive and detailed coverage of the ETF business. I recommend in particular the chapters on the structure and mechanics of ETFs, the regulatory and tax aspects as well as the nitty-gritty steps involved in bringing an ETF to market.
The book is written from a practitioner's perspective and it should be invaluable to participants in the ETF industry as well as to ETF investors who seek to understand the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" reference book for anyone who trades ETFs, August 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have read many of the ETF books available and all covered the basics. I had been looking for an advanced book that discussed the unique manner in which ETFs trade and this book fit the bill. As a finance professional focused exclusively on ETFs, this book helped me to better understand the mechanics of ETF trading which has greatly improved my performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Comprehensive Guide To ETFs, April 21, 2010
By
Alfred (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The ETF Handbook, + website: How to Value and Trade Exchange Traded Funds (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
I have read many books covering exchange-traded funds and this is the only book that I have come across that covers the technical aspects of ETFs in detail. In addition, the spreadsheets and webinar that come with the book are also extremely useful in getting a practical understanding of how ETFs are valued and the mechanics behind these vehicles. The ETF Handbook does an astounding job in covering need to know topics such as how an authorized participant (AP) facilitates liquidity and the various structures of exchange-traded products. Not only will this book be useful for those in the ETF industry but as exchange-traded products become more prevalent in the portfolios of investors, this book is also extremely useful for the general public. In short, the ETF Handbook is hands down the best book covering the ever growing field of Exchange-Traded Funds(ETF).

5.0 out of 5 stars A manual you'll actually enjoy reading, October 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The ETF Handbook, + website: How to Value and Trade Exchange Traded Funds (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
I bought this book thinking I simply was getting just the most recently written manual on ETFs. Instead I found a book that not only illustrates the inner workings of an ETF but one that tells the ETF story and describes the dynamics of the ETF marketplace from product creation, valuation, trading and execution. The book's title probably undersells it.

The book would appeal to any ETF player - investors, broker-dealers, traders, exchanges, advisors, aggregators, etc. No matter what your role or position is in the ETF marketplace, the book helps you understand the functions and motivations of the other players for best execution.

The author, Dave Abner, provides predictive insights. While everyone would understand the importance of liquidity, he illustrates how you can calculate the potential liquidity of an ETF at the start by its least liquid component. Abner moves forward and suggests potential future steps in solving the dilemma of potentially low trading volumes in new ETFs such as NAV crossing.

This is the most captivating "manual" I've ever read.
