Another Comic Book.

For the uninformed: EVE Online is science fiction Massive Multiplayer Online Games that takes place in the far future, in a region of the Milky Way called New Eden. In this future starships are manned by immortal pilots called capsuleers, whose memories are transferred to new bodies upon death. The story is driven by the conflicts between the factions created by capsuleers.

What separates EVE Online from other MMO’s is that the events in the game: The factions, the battles, even the economy is almost entirely player driven. If a player wants that ship, they don’t just buy it from an NPC vendor. They either mine or buy the raw materials themselves and then build it themselves using their own money or another player had to do that and they buy it from them.

The Story: The events of the story are player driven. In 2009, there were two factions of players which made war on each other constantly, the Band of Brothers and Goonswarm. Then, an act of espionage brought down one side and ended one of the greatest wars in the history of EVE. This was not created by developers. It was created by the players. As the cover says: True Stories.

The Good: EVE Online is a rich and diverse universe, chock full of story potential, so it is very great to see any kind of media being released about it. Books and stories about EVE are lacking compared to other games like World of Warcraft.

Like many graphic novels, the artwork is done by several artists. The artwork is very well done, though to be honest, it might have been better if they had focused more on ships rather than people because it is really the starship battles that get people hooked on EVE, at least from Bookworm’s perspective.

A pretty boring and hard to follow story set in The Mittani's fantasy circlejerk world. I had great expectations for this and was let down by the bland storytelling and the Goonswarm tie in.

Short but well written - the art is great and gritty except towards the end when it suddenly switches to a cartoon-style art which really killed the mood. The writers did a great job with stepping around in game meta-features (like having alts or sitting in chat) without breaking the 4th wall.

Like so many other EVE products, it is big on style while suffering fundamental flaws. Like the game, the artwork in this is good, but the underlying content, plot and pacing is confusing and/or lacking.

I play Eve online so I was very interested in this comic. I liked the art work and the story line got me thinking about James Bond. Though Eve online game time is focused primarily on flying space ships, this comic focuses mostly on the player interactions between two rival groups and the downfall of one of them within the game. The fascinating thing about this comic is that the events are not the creation of a writer in an office building somewhere, but actually happened in the Eve online universe.

I thought someone had taken the time to craft this event into a story. Instead they made a comic book. Very artistic, though hard to follow in places. I got confused several times just on who was who. I almost needed a diagram to show me which characters were supposed to be the same person.

Like most people have stated before, the constant change in artists and style is really jarring. At first I did not mind the cover image, but after reading it, the cover seems irrelevant and bordering on gratuitous. EVE has always been about open worlds and awesome ships- this is subject matter ripe for a quality graphic novel. Sadly, True Stories does not deliver. If you are interested in the actual story, there are many great journalistic articles covering it with better detail across the internet.

It's a comic book about how one of the most successful and deprived Alliances in Eve Online, Goonswarm Federation, helped an equally despotic member of Band of Brothers Alliance betray his own alliance and hundreds of dedicated Eve Online players. Poorly written, poorly sketched, I cannot believe anyone would print such a empty and self-serving piece on garbage whose sole purpose is to boost the ego of The Mittani and his "Goons"; the name can be applied to them psychologically as well. Buy a PLEX and fight High Sec Gankers from ruining the game instead you will get much more utility from your purchase.
