The eVGA GTX 295 Co-Op Single PCB GPU is a pretty good buy, IF you have the system to match. I had to upgrade my CPU because It bottlenecked the 295. With it's specs, it should still be relevant today, but it isn't. This is one of things that just wasn't ready for market. The multi-GPU functionality is really buggy, the drivers are awful, it's runs really hot, and it consumes a lot of power. I went from a Gigbyte Radeon HD 4670 (I recommend it; flawless card,) to this monster. But I wasn't blown away, sadly. After contacting support concerning mediocre performance, I was told that my Phenom II x4 810 (the b*stard child of the Phenom II line,) was the cause, being short on both cache memory, and clock speed. So, I ordered a Phenom II x4 945 (6MB of L3 cache as opposed to 4MB, and a clock speed of 3.0ghz instead of 2.4ghz,) and installed it, then tried benchmarking again. This card performs pretty well...when overclocked. My hopes were dashed when I overclocked my CPU to 3.4ghz, and the card to about 650mhz core, 1350mhz shader, and the fan speed at 100%... ...And got this (Res: 1920x1080; all settings maxed; 2xAA, no AF): Crysis: 10-30 fps Far Cry 2: 20-50fps Crysis 2: 15-35 fps Dead Space 2: 100+ fps (Vsync off, it destroys your framerate.) Battlefield: Bad Company 2: 20-70 fps Portal 2: 40-100+ fps Fallout 3: 20-80 fps Grand Theft Auto IV: 10-40 fps GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City: 5-25 fps Half-Life 2 (Just for fun): 600 fps (LAWL.) Using this setup: Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H AM2/AM2+ mobo Phenom II x4 945; OC'ed to 3.4ghz on air 5gb DDR2 RAM eVGA GTX 295 Co-OP Single-PCB 1.7gb GDDR3; OC'ed: (core) 650mhz, (shader) 1350mhz, 100% fan speed. Corsair 750w PSU Overall, I don't recommend this card. It runs hot, consumes too much power, is buggy, and the drivers are terrible. You won't be happy with it. Get a Radeon HD 6950 2gb, and overclock it. |
