Great motherboard,

This review is from: EVGA 113-M2-E113-TR nForce 730a and GeForce 8200 AMD Motherboard (Personal Computers)
This is a great motherboard, with a great price attached. This is the board that I used for my first build in about 10 years. This board was easy to install, easy to set up, and just plain made my life much easier while I was working on this project. It has done everything I have thrown at it and them some.
But, in truth, the main reason that I wanted to write this review is due to the great customer support at EVGA. After I gathered all the components for this computer, I ran into a big snag. I could not load Windows Vista! I tried for over a week to get the computer up and running without any results. I went to the EVGA site and listed a cry for help on their forums thinking that it was a problem may be in the BIOS. Within 2 days, my computer is up and running. That doesn't sound like a great piece of customer support, but when you take into account that the problem wasn't even in the motherboard or the BIOS (as we found out it was a bad DVD-ROM) and they still helped me find the problem & fix it, then you realize how good their support really is. Thanks to EVGA, and to all the Forum Members!

Another solid motherboard from EVGA. I used this to replace my older NF41 AMD motherboard which ran years without a problem and this one seems just as solidly built. I'm running a Phenom X4 920 with 8GB of ram with Vista x64 with zero problems. As rock stable as my Intel quadcore. Only gripes I have is with placement of sata ports which makes it hard to connect cables one motherboard is in case. Lack of firewire and esata is the only other biggie but then again you can't expect all that and quality in a $100 motherboard. LCD diagnostic on motherboard is awesome and should be standard on all motherboards nowadays.
I had to knock off a star for lack of virtualization support in the latest bios for this motherboard. What this means is that you can't use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7. And no future bios expected to fix this.

I got the 8200 version of this motherboard sent to me instead of the 8300. Other than that it works well... no problems.

This is a great MB from a great OEM: EVGA. It is worth a few more bucks to buy something from them. Their reps are knowledgeable and helpful Americans. This MB has advanced features for its generation. Uses 800 speed memory, but there is not much difference in gaming between that and 1066 or so. The 8 pin CPU connector requires an 8 pin power supply, which is fine by me, as I need the extra power-flow to OC. I plan on dropping in a quad-core when the price retreats, meanwhile I'll use an old duel core.

Installed with no problems, because I had a old nforce board and a amd cpu already in the computer and replaced them with the updated parts the computer just booted right up into windows, updated some drivers and I was done.

This product seemed to work well, and indeed there were no real apparent issues with it.
However, I am the type who likes to leave applications open while working on them, so I don't have to remember which 12 files to open the next time I start working, so I use sleep mode a lot. My main issue with this board was that resuming from sleep mode caused timing errors in one of the cores of my processor. I originally used an AMD Athlon X2 Model 7750 (windows 7 32 bit), then upgraded to an AMD Phenom x3 Model 8750, since customer support suggested that the 7750 was not "officially supported." However, the issues still remained. Core timings may not mean much to some users, but it caused the system to become a little less stable and reliable, and in the case of multi-threaded applications, unresponsive. To test this for yourself, push the windows key + R to open the run dialog, and enter "cmd" for the command prompt. Next, type. all pings should return with less than 100-200 ms (milliseconds). After resuming from sleep mode, I would always have one core with bad timings, returning anywhere up to 500,000 ms (the equivalent of 500 seconds, or 8.33 minutes). The info returned was actually instantaneous, though. In task manager, I set the affinity of the cmd.exe process to use all cores but core 0, and the bad timings were gone. Another application I used was Microsoft Expression Design 3, and the bad core made me unable to even enter a new file name when creating a new project. Anyway, after months of talking to customer support and me trying to find the time to do their tests, it ended with me updating the BIOS. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! The 'recommended' BIOS update removed the last two of my SATA hard drive ports AND my ability to use the onboard RAID. Thankfully, I was only using RAID to mirror my hard drive to another one for backup. If I was using striping or JBOD, I wouldn't be able to access my data until I had another working board. I will never buy another EVGA board again.

Died after 2 months,

It is a nice, cheap motherboard. Bios is easy to use and set up.
I started getting Reboots after 1 month and after 2 months it eventually died. When the system is powered on nothing powers on. Only LED 1, lights up and the motherboard doesnt power on. If i unplug the 8pin power line the motherboard partially powers up. I have tried using other power supplies and have had the same problem. From searching the EVGA forums, it seems that a several people are experiencing this same problem with this motherboard. Additionally, it does not come with a Manual or Proper Documentation. Instead you get a poster which gives a low level diagram for installation. Evga's RMA was simple and straight forward. However, because i am not from the U.S. the cost for me to ship it to their RMA facility was more than the cost of the Mobo, so i am left with the faulty motherboard and minus $100. |
