5.0 out of 5 stars Tight install, but worked perfectly right out of the box
Got this as a gift for my daughter who is a big WOW gamer. First, you have to make sure you have enough power for this card as it really sucks it up. I had to upgrade her power supply to a 600 watt unit from her systems 350 stock unit . . . got a deal on a OZ supply that works great -- just make sure there is plenty of 12 volt rail power.

Second, this card...

2.0 out of 5 stars Was Great Until It Died
Got this on Nov 22nd, 2008. Ran great. Ran Fallout3 at max everything glass smooth. Ran WoW max everything at 100fps until I upgraded to WOTLK, but even after that still got >40fps at almost all times.

Great card until the fan started making this horrific high pitched squealing. After about 40 minutes of that, it gave me incredible headaches. Tried...

Second, this card is huge! You have to make sure there is enough length clearance as well as two slot spaces available. Had to move some of the hard drive connectors around to make space for the back of the card.

Some good design features made this a desirable card. All the hot air goes out the back slots, so it actually helps keep the entire unit cooler. The connectors on the back are solid and the card seats in perfectly. The card is very quiet compared to a ATI-based card we tested, hard to tell it is there. The fan speed varies by heat and draw and she has never had it go up even close to max. By making sure I got her a very quiet power supply and the design of this card, upgrading her system actually made it quieter.

Now my daughter plays World of Warcraft with every setting at max on a 24" monitor with a second monitor for control and messages. No stutter or freezing, no artifacts, just game fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice video card for Crysis, November 3, 2008
This review is from: EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR e-GeForce GTX260 896MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card - Lifetime Warranty (Personal Computers)
Definitely worth it. The SSC edition is discontinued so I don't know if this will help anybody. I have an AM2 6000+ with 3GB RAM and Vista 64. Crysis rocks with this card. It plays at 1280x1024 at ultrahigh for the first couple boards, but I had to turn it down to high settings for later boards. (Including turning the resolution down for the last big boss.)

My system couldn't push a 280 anyway, so this card was perfect. I wonder how much more I could get with PCI express 16x 2.0, but it does everything I want it to.

The seller was A+, no complaints, and fast ship time. (Electronica Direct.) Plus the card is EVGA, so if I have a problem, EVGA has very good support and RMA.

Great card. Mine came factory overclocked, even though I bought the basic version.

Handles anything I throw at it just fine, with AA turned up.

Got an awesome deal on it over a month ago, would buy it again!

This card is fantastic, but I got it when it was new and the price was great. I don't know if it's rare now or what but there are better values to be had.

I still rate the card 5 stars, the product is amazing, just make sure the price makes sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars very very good and "safe" temperature compared to AMD 4870, December 10, 2008

For over 3 months now I've been going back and forth either to get AMD's 4870-1GB or Nvidia's GTX260. I've been reading reviews stating that the 4870 runs really really hot which is really bad because it might potentially melt your motherboard or other computer component and maybe cause a fire. Also it consumes more electrical current. On top of that, some games prefer AMD, some games prefer NVIDIA and the games that I prefer happens to run better on NVIDIA !! I got it less than 2 weeks ago and been very happy with it :) Idle @ 54 degree C and Intense Playing @ 66 degree C :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Imprecionante, muy buena tarjeta, August 26, 2008
This review is from: EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR e-GeForce GTX260 896MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card - Lifetime Warranty (Personal Computers)

Great card until the fan started making this horrific high pitched squealing. After about 40 minutes of that, it gave me incredible headaches. Tried fixing it by downloading eVGA's Precision utility and modulating the fan speed. That made it go away for an hour or two until the squealing came back.

Despite the price of this thing, I can only assume eVGA is using cheapo fans to cause the bearings to fail so fast.

I have never returned ANYTHING to Amazon, but I returned this. I'm buying an XFX instead... never had any problems with them.
