A great video card with very good 3D performance.
on June 28, 2013
I purchased this video card to replace A GeForce 8800GTX that was getting rather long in the tooth and did not support DirectX 10 or 11. I had put off replacing the card because it still worked perfectly and has very good 3D performance even with today's games. I wanted DirectX 10 and 11 compatibility, though. So, I pulled my old card and keep it as an emergency spare.
This is the second of these cards that I have bought. The first was from New Egg last year and was to replace and upgrade a GeForce 8600 GT card that a power spike seemed to have damaged. It worked, but would shut down without warning. It is the first nVidia card I've ever had fail on me.
Installation of the card was quick and simple as I removed the old card, installed the new one and updated the drivers from nVidia's website (already downloaded). It has performed very well in DirectX 9, 10 and 11 as I expected given my track record with nVidia cards. After I updated the drivers, its performance has been rock solid with absolutely no problems.
I can highly recommend this card for a mid-level gaming machine. It's a bit much for just cruising the net as it drinks quite a bit of power. But for a mid-level 3D gaming machine, it's a very good value and a great performer.
When my niece rebuilt her PC (built a new one, actually), I urged her to buy one of these as she plays many of the same 3D games that I do. She has been quite satisfied with her purchase as well. I have been building PCs including hers for over twenty five years. This one was the first she built herself. She was amazed at how easy it is. And she is very happy with her purchase, both the price and the performance. I think you might be, too, if your needs are like hers and mine.
Whatever you decide to buy, good luck with your purchase if you buy some other video card. You won't need luck if you buy nVidia, especially this card.
