After many years of being a console gamer, I purchased a pre-built gaming PC a few years back for my 18th birthday. The only bottleneck in its performance was the GPU, an Nvidia GT610. While the PC was a huge step up from my last computer in terms of performance, it just wasn't cutting it. It was frustrating being unable to play newer games at higher resolutions. As an essentially broke college student (at the time) I grew upset and backed away from PC gaming for a while.

Flash forward to early 2014. The media was abuzz with article after article boasting the performance of Nvidia's new card, the GTX 750ti, calling it an Xbox killer, PS4 slasher, all of that. "Plays Titanfall better than Xbox One at 1080p" was a frequent comment made by journalists referring to this card. I let the hype build in me until I finally decided to put my tax return towards this card. Is it as good as you'd think? I've owned this card for about 6 months now.

PROS:
-Price point. $150 is super cheap for this level performance, though I imagine with more people finding out about this card, the price will rise. (I paid around $140 for mine after rebate.) I was beyond excited when I finally got it, and could see what it could do. For somebody who's just getting into building a PC, or upgrading their current desktop tower, I can definitely recommend this card as a great starting point!

-Graphics capabilities. This card plays just about anything with ease. I enjoy playing games at 1080p and this allows me to do that for most games on high settings with minimal optimization. Straight out of a fresh game installation, you can expect to play most newer games at 35-60 FPS.

If you're one of those folks who needs the biggest, baddest, etc, go buy yourself a Titan or a 780, or better yet, save yourself a few hundred and buy a 760.

For many though, a video card is the make or break component that defines whether you'll be watching each frame as it pops on your screen or actually enjoying playing on your gaming PC. For many that have an older system, or one that has an underpowered PSU, this is the best card you can get. It's fully bus powered, and will let you run games like WoW on Ultra at 100fps. More taxing games like Crysis will run at medium-high at 60fps. Mind you this is all at 1080p.

I built a DIY steam box, and was waiting for this card to come out. It's quiet, doesn't get hot at all, and again, is bus powered. So you can easily pop in this along with a decent core i5 and have yourself a great steam machine in a compact SFF case.

This is a great card, bar none one of the best bang for the bucks out there.

This is the first card in Nvidia's new "Maxwell" architecture that would be the Geforce 8-series. I think this is their first spin with the current process, and performance-wise fits into the 7-series right at the number the card has. I think with the shrink we will see a similar (and probably a little faster) version of this card as the 850. The level of performance is good, but in terms of the power and heat...it's among the best out there.

It is very low power, but the performance is good enough for 1080p at a good frame rate with today's games. I got this card for my Linux box, and with the 331.49 Linux 64-bit driver the card is detected correctly, and works just great, even in demanding games like Metro Last Light; at 1920*1200 the frame rate was smooth with nearly maximum settings (for Linux at least). Driver support is of course very new (it wasn't correctly detected in the 331.20 set) so performance could very well improve even more. So, basically even though you need Windows according to the box, the card works just fine in 64-bit Linux (both Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.10).

The card itself is very small and light. It's not really very loud either. There is no 6-pin connector; it draws all power through the slot. Some cards are sold with that connector, but I think even with a high overclock, you may not even need it. As to overclocking, I use it in Linux so I can't tell you that...but this is the superclocked version so it will run at over 1200Mhz boosted easily, as indicated in the specifications.

Background - Great fit for a quiet, small, game machine.
I purchased this card to complement a recent Gaming Box build I did for around $1100. One of my main goals was to build a system small enough to keep next to the TV in the living room, without much noise, or a huge, bulky PC case taking up real estate. That basically steered me toward a simple mini-ITX build. This card, fit right in. It was priced right, powerful enough to run the games I wanted to play yet didn't require the extra PCI-E power cables.

My Build:
In-Win 901 Case
ASUS Maximum VI Impact
Intel Core-i3-4130 - 54W
HyperX XMP Blu Red Series 8GB
EVGA GeForce GTC 750Ti Superclock - 60W
Samsung 840 Evo 120GB SSD for OS
WD Blue 1TB Desktop Drive for Media/Games
Corsair CX430M - Only 430Watts - Enough for me though.

Ease of Installation - Minimal Effort.
It has been years (maybe a decade) since I last build a custom PC. I used to tweak all my builds and overclock to get the most out of my components. That's why I went with the MB I did, just in case that urge comes back. However, as of right now, everything is setup stock. I didn't make any tweaks or adjustments. Simply put it together, installed OS, latest GeForce Drivers and go. I really liked the fact that once the OS was installed it was a matter of minutes until my machine was ready to play, without hours or days of tweaking and tuning to get decent performance.

Gaming Performance - It just works.
I've been playing a couple games so far; Tomb Raider (2013) and Bioshock Infinite. The GeForce software was great in that it found the games installed and automatically optimized their settings for me.
