Well, it's been almost a week now since I put this card in my PC. It works great. I am a casual hardcore gamer (oxy-moron probably) and I have been very happy with this card. I have played Civilization V, Starcraft II, Titan Quest, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and Dungeon Siege III all at high resolution (1920x1080) and high graphic settings with little to no lag at all.

The only problem I have with this card is it runs a little hot in my Dell Inspiron 546. That's probably the fault of the case though because there is very little ventilation. I have gotten temps up to 70 degrees Celsius with this card under load, and it idles around 40 degrees. This is according to MSI Afterburner. According to the specs of this card on the nVidia site, this card can handle temps up to 98 degrees Celsius.

This card works great with Windows 7 and I had no problem installing the driver at all. The card also slipped right into the PCIe slot like it was meant to be there. This is by far the easiest video card exchange I have ever performed. I get a WEI of 6.7 with this card in both Aero performance and Gaming performance with Windows 7 64 bit.

One thing to keep in mind is this card is low to mid range in the performance hierarchy, lets face it, it is no GeForce GTX 590, but who could afford that card? For anyone on a tight budget, they can not do much better then this card right here.

UPDATE June 13, 2012: I have played Skyrim and Diablo III since they were released and this card runs them well. I can turn it on to the max monitor resolution (1920x1080) and medium settings for Skyrim and High Textures/no Shadows or AA for Diablo III and still get good framerates (35-45fps).

The EVGA GeForce GT 440 was a significant upgrade over my previous video adapter, a GeForce 8500 GT. Although it is possible to hear the fan I do not find the sound to be more excessive than that of any other video adapter I have used in the past. The Windows Vista Graphics index jumped from 4.8 to 5.9. I am not a "gamer" however I do a lot of graphical work, primarily with editing, retouching, and restoring photographs and video editing and have noticed a significant improvement in the display.

My only "con" is in regard to Amazon.com's shipping practices which have taken a downturn of late. In the past "standard shipping" was UPS ground which was completely satisfactory for me. Now at check out the most costly shipping method is automatically selected. And, if you opt to save a few dollars and select "standard shipping" it is shipped via USPS which is slow and untraceable other than on Amazon's site. I placed my order for the GeForce GT 440 July 17. Although it was listed as being sold by Amazon and "in stock" it was not shipped until July 21. It then sat in a warehouse in Kent, WA (200 miles from my home) for three more days. It was finally delivered July 26, nine days after placing my order.

I purchaesd this because my almost 3-yr old EVGA 9800-GT suddenly died soon after upgrading their EVGA Precision software (like 2 hours) even though I had it on a default settings. Since I just several hundred dollars upgraded my two other systems I wasn't ready to plunk down more money on expensive video card. After reviewing the NVIDIA site for processor comparison chart I decided go with this one since I'm no longer playing games on this particular system and primarily using it for photo/video editing. All-in-all, for the price this is a real bargain. The card only consumes half of the 9800-GT (thus keeping my system cooler and quieter) and didn't see any noticeable drop in performance for what I needed.

The rest of the review is their customer service, which I think is very important to consider when you buy any electronic equipment.

This was a pleasant surprise. I was about to register the purchase on EVGA site when I found out that my 9800-GT came with a lifetime warranty. After initiating a support ticket on their site, I got a response back with a few questions and troubleshooting suggestions. After answering them, they sent me an RMA# which I used their site to complete my RMA process. I boxed my card per their instruction, sent it UPS and in less than a week I received a replacement video card of exact model...just a new serial # which they also automatically registered under my account. The new card works beautifully as before.

Given their product quality and their customer service and RMA experience, I will continue to only buy EVGA video card.

A footnote. I upgrdaded my son's system with this GT 440 (he had an older EVGA 8600 card) and he loves it. He was able to bump up his settings for Skyrim. This has been a great buying and support service experience...

Oh and be sure to register your product immediately and also upload your receipt. It'll make your RMA process much easier.

I bought this card because the ATI HD3850 card I had previously displayed the nasty habit of giving me the dreaded B.S.O.D. every time I got online. The anal pain this caused on a continual basis was incredible, so this card was purchased to take care of that problem. Well....I'm happy to say that the GT440 got the job done in flying colors. Since I have installed this card I have had not ONE Blue Screen Of Death. The drivers will update via Win7, whereas the ATI CCC was always a chore of uninstall, got to safe mode, driver sweep, reinstall downloaded drivers...what a mess!
One caveat I will share is that the latest set of drivers wanted to "flicker" for just a second before loading Firefox 4. That was taken care of by merely disabling the 2D2 option in FF4. Since I installed this card and made that one tweak, I have ran flawlessly and everything looks incredible. Plus, PC Probe tells me that I am actually running COOLER running more intensive graphics than I did with the old card.
A whisper quiet card that really takes care of the business I need it to. I would recommend this card to the casual gamer or the hard-core web surfer. It just works, easy install and updates. Great card. Give it a shot.
