Product Description

Style: GTX 970 SC

The new EVGA GeForce GTX 970 is powered by the next-generation NVIDIA Maxwell architecture, giving you incredible performance, unmatched power efficiency, and cutting-edge features. Maxwell is the most advanced GPU architecture ever made, designed to be the engine of next-generation gaming. Inspired by light, it was designed to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. For the first time, gaming GPUs can dynamically render indirect light using the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination technology. Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment. Incredible Speed and Power Efficiency The GTX 970 offers the most advanced performance in its class and delivers 2x the performance of previous generation cards, bringing new gaming experiences to virtual reality, HD, and ultra-resolution 4K displays. Dynamic Super Resolution Technology Enable the detail of 4K monitors, on a 1080P display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a high resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering. Super-Smooth and Stutter-Free GeForce GTX 970 cards support tear-free, super-fast NVIDIA G-Sync monitor display technology, including 4K. Together, these technologies provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experiences possible.

Style Name: GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0
Pros: I got two of these to run in SLI. Upgraded from 280x crossfire. Pretty amazing performance upgrade.

Pretty much chews up anything I throw at it. All my games run 1440p ultra settings at or near 120 fps. Crysis 3, Farcry 3, TW: Rome 2, Tomb Raider. You gotta get a 120hz monitor to be able to appreciate the high frame rates if you're using a single monitor setup.

They overclock pretty well too. I had trouble doing anything with my 280x's when they were in crossfire. These cards have one of the higher factory overclocks available. But without fussing around much I was easily able to boost core clock and memory clock another 100mhz each, which brings the boost clock up to 1455mhz. Without changing any power or voltage settings. Pretty slick.

Temps are pretty great too. I've read the reports on the ACX cooler only having two of the three main copper pipes making contact with the GPU, but to be honest I'm not sure if this even applies to the ACX 2.0 cooler, which this card has. With the 100mhz overclock, one of the cards peaks at 73 (the card on top), the lower card peaks about 65. They idle at 31 / 25 respectively.

Small size for a card of this power, easy installation. Low power consumption. With relatively aggressive OC to my CPU (3.5 -> 4.5) and two of these cards OC'd as above, I'm able to run everything without issue on a 750 PSU.

Cons: The one ding on this card is a mild coil whine. It's hardly noticeable but it is there. I only noticed it when the side panel was off and I listened for it while testing everything out. When the side panel is on I pretty much can't hear it at all.

Let me start by saying I am no overclocking expert, but consider myself pretty knowledgeable. I upgraded from the EVGA GTX 660 TI FTW to this exact card.
Pros:
1) This card is smaller.
2) this card draws way less power
3) runs much quieter
4) benchmarks more than 2x faster

I have this card overclocked using EVGA's Precision X 16 software to power target 110% (max)
GPU Clock Offset +100 MHz
Mem Clock Offset +300 MHz

3DMark Firestrike benchmark score = 9204(!!! for s ingle GPU!) (slightly better than the 780 TI at less than half the price, better than the Titan line
Unigine Heaven Benchmark on full screen extreme settings = 81.7 FPS, score 2059
Unigine Valley Benchmark full screen Extreme HD Preset = 59.7 FPS, score 2498

FY! - free versions of these benchmarking tools are available. download them and see what you're getting now to compare. Then you will see how amazing this card really is.

Playing Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, Far Cry 3... temp never exceeded 67 C

When looking at the EVGA cards, keep in mind the 3 different flavors of cooling... the single fan, the older ACX 1.0, and this new ACX 2.0. To me, this new cooling system is whisper quiet. People are comparing this card to the MSI version, and it's basically a balance of cooling vs. quiet. I can live with the extremely slight fan noise, and feel safer knowing the card stays cool.

There's an excellent review on hexux.net of the EVGA 970 FTW card, if you want detailed benchmarks and specs.

Also, you can move up to the 980 line of NVidia cards, but from all my research, you barely get a 10-15% improvement over the 970's, for ~$250 less. This is the card that will give you the best bang for the buck.

Alright, I've had this card for 4 days. There is NOTHING wrong with this card. The fan IS a little louder than my previous GTX 770 AMP! by Zotac, but it's not a "jet engine" like others have said. The performance is awesome. AND it has 3 years of warranty by EVGA. I'm planning on getting a second one because they blow the heat outside of my case. Just make sure you have intake fans from the front of your case, and you should be fine. Finally, this card has the lowest price of all the GTX 970s. Good purchase for me.

I'll make this short and sweet. It fits just perfectly in my Mini-ITX gaming HTPC setup, it should fit other dual slot cases fine. Nothing my 600W SFX PSU can't handle, thanks to the lower TDP. Temps consistently below 70C when gaming. No coil whine and fan is silent as far as my build is concerned (GPU fan sound is being blocked by the sound of 3 case fans).

Now, I know you're curious about performance. Take note that I have a 1080p HDTV, but I run it at recommended resolution 1360 x 768 because Windows 8.1 and it's icons look very small on higher resolutions (plus, there's no real difference in gaming since I'm 6 feet away from the TV). So far I've tried the following games:

Tomb Raider 2013

All Ultra, 16x Filtering, 4x SSAA, Post Processing on, Tessellation on, High Precision on, TressFX Hair Quality
Min:43
Max:74
Avg:53

Titanfall

Insane textures, All High, 16x Filtering, 8x MSAA, V-Sync on
Locked @ 60 (no dips at all)

These are just a very few games but so far it delivered an outstanding performance. And at this price range, there's no question, this card is a monster! There's no reason not to get it.

I'll update information on this review when I get the chance to try more games.
