Not "if," but "when." The micro-USB shell will stay firmly mounted to the soldered through-holes, but the plastic core and its five SMD leads will break loose from the pads. It's easy to replace the board which is marked with Nvidia part no. 180-81646-1002-A05, but there is no source for this little PCB other than buying a whole new tablet. Reflowing (i.e. resoldering) its microscopic 0.65 mm pitch pads might be possible, but so far I've had little luck with them.

To avoid this, one could attach a short micro-USB cable extension or adapter and gaffer-tape the cable to the back of the tablet.

I couldn't decide between the New nexus 7 or the Tegra Note, so I went the cheaper route.

PROS: Processor is WOW! Loads games and YouTube videos fast. Downloads fast, too.
Speakers are LOUD and the stylus is pretty sweet.

CONS: Not well built as far as the screen and outer body goes.

* My Tegra Note's screen was protruding out in the corner, which led me to believe that it will wear faster with everyday use and eventually come out. Is a bit flemsy and cheap feeling.

* Though the volume is loud without headphones, it is amazingly tiny coming through head phones and that's a big problem for me.

(The USB charging cable does fit loosely, but its not a problem like some others have made it out to be. It still charges well.)

For me the con's outweighed the pros, so I ended up not being completely happy with my purchase - I actually regretted it. Did not meet my expectations and I felt that I didn't get my money's worth with what I will be using a tablet for - YouTube, research, medium gaming, twitter, mail, lessons, and so forth. Sure you can do this on the Tegra Note, but It just didn't seem as if the tablet will be sturdy enough for everyday use. Please improve the build quality of the product, EVGA!
Fortunately the nexus 7 was on sale at this time of mere disappointment, thus I exchanged the Tegra for the new Nexus 7. So glad I did! The Tegra is built for gaming and the Nexus is built for, well, everything. Gaming isn't as great and smooth as on the Tegra, but will do for me.

So to sum it all up, if you want a mad gaming tablet with awesome volume (without earphones), smooth drawing capabilities, and a spot on stylus - go for the Tegra (whatever your needs are)! You may have better luck with it than I did.

Outside of a couple of freezing problems, this is exactly the kind of thing I wanted. The tablet itself is fast and light, and the stylus is what I wanted in terms of drawing and writing. I love to sketch and draw, so that feature (an included stylus with a fine-point tip) is a tool that I use quite often.

The freezing problems occur when switching between apps, but happens only on a inconsistent basis.

Amazing piece of hardware. Great vivid screen even though its rated lower pixel density than nexus 7. I bought a nexus 7 about a month ago, ended up selling it and getting the tegra note 7 and was so happy in doing so. Tegra zone has the BEST!!! games for tablets outside of roms. Don't let the idiots that are complaining that the kit kat upgrade prevents you from using the sd card.. IT doesn't. update the os to kit kat first then mount the sd card.. no problems.

Look up any of the reviews on this device and you'll find it pretty much smokes everything else in the 7" form factor, at least as of the date of this review. Web browsing is as fast and responsive as my gaming desktop almost across the board. This thing is so much faster than my Asus transformer prime (tf201) as to be in another league. I don't do much gaming but what little I have so far has been pretty impressive (much more detailed and added eye candy vs prime). The stylus feels great and is very responsive and I've found I prefer to use that over my finger(s) for most uses. The stylus smokes the cheap crappy soft tipped ones I've tried with other tablets. When you remove the stylus it goes into 'stylus mode, which has some added functionality that I personally find useful.

But, it feels cheap. There is a noticeable gap between the screen and the bevel. If you torque it (i.e. bend it) it feels like you could break it. I don't mind the rubber back, that isn't bad but it certainly doesn't have the feel of the brushed aluminium of my old prime. Plugging in micro HDMI or usb cables feels like they are going to fall out if you move even a little bit (they don't, it just feels that way).

For the money you can't buy a faster tablet. This is arguably one of the fasted android tablets on the market and the fastest in the 7" category. Before you whine about 720 instead of 1080 resolution look up the fact that most people can hardly tell a difference at this screen size. Even my old prime was only 720 on a 10" screen and I still think that looks great. 1080p (or higher) of tablets is the 24 bit /196hz of mp3 (i.e. nothing but marketing BS putting higher specs with no or terribly little real world perceptual difference).

i don't usually review purchases until i've had them longer than the three days i've spent with the note7, but in this case i'm plunging in. i have had a galaxy tab note 8.0 for more than a year, and it has been a work horse. but when i bought it i had hoped samsung would have done a 7" one. i bought an nvidia shield a few weeks ago and it is so nice i thought i must try their note, and was fortunate that amazon dropped the price to $169. the reviews of the stylus was what had really caught me.

first, the bad: i am not happy about the way the usb connection seems likely to be easy to break.

the rest is all good. it's a little heavier than some tablets its size, but the weight makes it seem sturdy, to me at least. mine has no gaps anywhere, and i like the honest plastic of it. i also find that the fairly large bezels make it easy to hold without blocking any of the screen. it's a very comfortable device to use. i've ordered the cover, which should make it even more convenient.

the speakers don't quite provide the blast some reviewers made me expect, but they're quite decent and on the front. the screen may not have the highest specs, but it's excellent in practice. the whole tablet just zings along.

but the best thing for me so far, with my somewhat limited experimentation, is the drawing/painting possibilities. i don't think there's another tablet out there with the flexibility of expression this little guy offers. the photography software seems exemplary, too, although again i've only begun to explore it.

that's my enthusiastic quick take. updates will follow if it disappoints.
