I did much research over two days to find the best card for a PCI Standard bus PC and found a number of reviews stating this was the best. There is much discussion whether or not these older PC's can even utilize anything over 128Mb cards but with so many good reviews, I purchased this one. The consensus is that the 512's are a waste of money. Someone stated in another review that you have to disable the old card first. You do it as follows: Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, left click on the "cross" to the right of Display Adapters, right click on Graphics Controller (or it will be the only one listed), left click "disable," turn off PC, install new card, start PC, PC should recognize new hardware, download new software, update new software (there's new drivers since the 5/08 ones on the disc), go back to device manager and uninstall the old card if you want.
Before I did this the new card would not take, and all I got was a black screen upon rebooting the PC. I had to reinstall the old card and do the above procedure before I could install the new one and get it to work. Anyway the card works great, vivid colors, ok 3D graphics, more detail as advertised, and I can play all the non high end games I want. No more jerking performance, freezing up and crashing of games. This is great for the average person with only a PCI standard bus. It makes the PC acceptable. Whereas before, the old card gave barely minimal graphic performance.

Was looking for a PCI based video card and this one is perfect. Works great in a older DELL 2400 that I upgraded with this, memory, and a CD burner for my neice.

I would recommend this video card to anyone looking to upgrade an older PCI Based system.

My Nettop computer has Intel GMA 950 onboard graphics. I was experiencing poor quality video with a Dell 19 inch widescreen monitor. The text was blurred and it had some flickering at 1440x900 resolution. I tried everything to adjust it with no luck. This monitor also had video problems with a Mac using GMA 950 graphics. My Nettop only has 1 PCI slot, so I gave this card a shot. Wow, what an improvement! Both Digital and Analog outputs look great. It works great with Aero and it improved the Windows Experience Index for Aero from 2.0 to 2.5 with Windows 7. Windows 7 automatically detected it and I didn't have to do a Google search for missing drivers. The system seems more responsive now, maybe because of the GPU and extra 256mb of video ram? This card has lots of plus's: Low price, great video quality, DVI and VGA output, 256mb RAM, no noisy fan, it fits in a PCI slot, S video output and it works with dual screens too. The specs say it needs a 300 watt power supply, but I'm using it with a 250 watt power supply no problem. This thing works great as a budget video card upgrade. I agree with the other reviewers and give it 5 stars. I ordered this card from Amazon instead of Newegg because the shipping was cheaper.

One of the best still-available choices of plug-in graphics card for those who only have legacy PCI slots available on their motherboards. Visit the EVGA website for other similar PCI choices.

I got this card for a Pentium 4 computer that only had PCI available on the motherboard. Windows 7 Aero is working great, and that's all I wanted. Had no problems installing. Amazon was cheaper than Newegg, but check out Newegg anyway. They have lots of reviews there too. I bought from Amazon cause of the lower price.

I have an older Dell Dimension 3100 that only has a crappy on board video. I needed something that would allow me to watch high definition video. This card plugged right in and worked like a charm. It also allowed me to hook up a second monitor. I plugged my main monitor into the DVI output and the secondary monitor into the analog VGA outlet. IT worked really slick. The supplied drivers do not work with Windows 7 but they were easy to find and download of the NVidia website.

The company I work for decided to upgrade a couple departments to dual monitors. I seached the web for something that would be compatible for our broad range of machines (from 4 years old to present). I also wanted something that would be compatible with Windows7 and 64bit technology as they are becoming more widespread. Out of the 20 ordered, 19 worked without a hitch. One of our older machines had trouble recognizing the card all of the time and occassionally complained of memory issues. Four computers of the exact same year and specs run the card with no problems.... I have not yet determined if it is the card or an unrelated issue. I would strongly recommend this card to anyone looking to upgrade computers with older Motherboards. I'm impressed to see that it works equally well with newer boards and operating systems as well. They are cheap and they work!

this thing is amazing. i dont really know much about graphics cards because normally the ones i have are pretty good but i have a desktop from 1999 so i had to get an upgrade. what is odd is you ave to put the thin in your computer BEFORE you install the drivers. then you can restart your computer and switch the "AV" cord i think its called? anyways... i went from having like 10 FPS on minecraft to 50 FPS.

Maybe not the top of the line for gamers, yet a wonderful improvement on an older XP computer. Worked perfectly with little effort.If you have an embedded video driver you will need to disable it and allow this one to take over. Other than that? PERFECTION!

My 2006 Lenovo ThinkCenter has an Intel 945G with 256 MB video ram (taken from system memory) built into the motherboard which was only capable of 1600x1024 at 32/24bpp. I first bought a newer nVidia card, but it didn't fit because I only had an older 5v PCI slot. Who would have thought slots would have changed so much in only 4 years?

It took about 5 minutes to configure the bios to use the nVidia PCI graphics card instead of the on-board Intel one. You'd have to do the same thing under Windows. Once I did that, Ubuntu booted up in 1920x1080 automatically with the open-source driver. It all seemed to work fine.

I clicked on "Hardware Drivers" and chose to use the Nvidia (non-free) driver (it's still free as in gratis, just not free as in liberty). Google earth rocks, full screen 1920x1080. Otherwise, my desktop seems only a little bit faster, but of course, it's drawing about twice as many pixels in the same amount of time. It's definitely crisper using my LCD monitor at full resolution.

After seeing how easy this was and how nicely it works with Linux, I plan to make this system an entertainment center and upgrade my desktop to a 64-bit system with a newer nVidia card. Previously I'd been afraid that only Intel cards would play nicely with Linux, but using this card with Linux couldn't have been any easier. It even has a utility that tells me how hot it's running!

In short, a great upgrade for older systems. Full Linux support. Very happy.
