5.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck
Purchased this card to replace existing EGVA 8500GT (1GB) on a 4GB E6580 CPU and couldn't be happier. First of all, I ordered the card on a Wednesday and it arrived two days later, using Amazon's free shipping. Amazing! The card is single slot but very large, luckily so is my case, but still had a tight fit attaching the two power cables. Well worth any effort, of course,...

The card is single slot but very large, luckily so is my case, but still had a tight fit attaching the two power cables. Well worth any effort, of course, once I turned on my machine and installed the latest drivers. Coupled with my new 22-inch widescreen LCD monitor, this card is just beautiful. Runs everything I throw at it with blinding speed, graphics options maxed out. Very, very pleased with both Amazon and the quality of the card. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent board, December 13, 2009

I purchased two of this video card for my home gaming computer, you know, for SLI. They are fast, but be prepared, because they really put the things hot inside the computer's case if you do not have enough ventilation. Also, the power requirements are high, so your PSU must match their needs. I had to put more fans and change my PSU in order to meet the requirements.
The service of Amazon? always first class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes only one card slot, April 17, 2010

This review is from: EVGA nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1 GB 2DVI/HDCP PCI-Express Video Card 01G-P3-N981-TR (Personal Computers)
I am not much of a video game player. Otherwise I probably would have bought an ATI-Radeon. But I do a lot of 3D CGI graphics animation, HD video editing and multichannel Soft-synth music composition. This board has full support for 3D with up-to-date OpenGL drivers. Its drivers are also stereo-scopic ready for those of you who want to attach a 3D monitor some day. I have also been writing a compiler for a parallel programming language that I have been developing and the future of raw performance seems to be going in the direction of GPGPU. This board is suitable for all of these purposes (with 112 GPU cores) and is about the most powerful video card you can get that only takes up one card slot. This board is suitable for CUDA programming as well as OpenCL, both of which are supported by NVidia's SDK. For those of you who do buy this board, don't forget that it sucks enough power that it needs its own direct power connection and will put out a shrill whine if you fail to provide it with one. I could not be happier with this board for the price. It meets all of my expectations and more. I use this video board in a system with the following:

CoolerMaster HAF932 AMD Limited Edition "Red Dragon"
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Quad-core processor (3.2 GHz)
Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P Motherboard (/w 8GB DDR3)
Microsoft Windows 7-64 Home Premium Edition
Antec EarthWatts 750 Watt ATX12v v2.3 Power Supply Unit
LG Blu-Ray Internal R/W Drive
Western Digital 500 GB PATA Drive (System Disk)
Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA (Data Disk)

I am delighted that my AMD Phenom II X4 955 only draws 55 Watts when the CPU is at 100% utilization doing heavy HD renders. Supposedly it is a 125W part but I have never seen it draw even half that. I do not over-clock, and that is probably why. Even though my whole system is pretty fully-loaded, it only draws about 260 Watts with everything hooked to it according to the APC UPS it is connected to. This does not jive with the reviewer who said you need at least a 400 W power supply. I have to ask him "What all do you have in you system?" He certainly didn't do his homework. Everyone should realize that the video card manufacturer can't predict what all you are going to load in your system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal, January 27, 2010

I ordered this card from Amazon on a Tuesday, they shipped it on a Thursday, and with an estimate of 1 week or longer, I got it that Saturday! All with Amazon's free shipping! Amazon rocks! As far as this graphics card goes, I bought it to upgrade from my new HP's intregated graphics. It fit right in with a snap and fired right up. The installation was easy and after I downloaded the drivers for Win 7, the card performs great! I don't think you can beat this card for performance at its great price. EVGA also seems to have a great website where you can register your card and get any support you may need. They offer a program to overclock your card if that is something you want that will monitor the temperature of the card, etc. They are even offering a free game to show off the capabilities of the card once you register it.

To summarize...this graphics card lets you play the most popular games with the highest specifications without losing frames. Just be sure to have a robust power source (over 400W) and a well refrigerated CPU case, I had to change both to keep this monster rocking on :p

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, February 26, 2010

Purchased this card to replace a GT 9500 DDR2 1G.....Is a LARGE card however so do be sure you are in a full case or a mid-tower to have ease of install. I did manage to get it into a DELL INSPIRON 530 with some judicious power supply and cable wiring re-routing though so your results may vary!

Changed Windows score from 4.2 to 5.8 and really allows me to run most anything I've selected at full or very close to full values.....AA not included of course.

I do recommend this to anyone that would like a good focused upgrade for the money that has a bit of experience inside their puters guts. Its NOT a hard upgrade to do, but you should have a clue before you jump in.

DO check your power supply however. I put in a 650w to have plenty of head space on the DC rail for this and other devices, but a 450w is the minimum so don't think your stock issue 325/350 will handle it cause it wont.

Best of luck! I love mine.

Buy the card.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Video Card, February 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: EVGA nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1 GB 2DVI/HDCP PCI-Express Video Card 01G-P3-N981-TR (Personal Computers)
I first bought this card for my computer and noticed an improvement in sharpness on my desktop and when playing World of Warcraft. My system has a ViewSonic VX2835WM monitor and runs under the XP operating system.
My wife was having graphics problems with her 1 year old Alienware computer so I built her a backup gaming computer with this card. We found it peforms better than the two graphics cards of a competing brand she has in her $ 4000 Alienware computer.

The only problem we have with this card is overscanning on my wife's computer which also has a ViewSonic VX2835WM monitor but is running the System 7 operating system. The ViewSonic VX2835WM monitor uses an HDMI input instead of a DVI input (like many 28" monitors) and apparently this causes a communication problem between the graphics card and the monitor. The graphics card thinks it's connected to an HD TV instead of a PC. This causes the overscanning which places the edges outside the screen. You can't see the Start button or any icons on the left side of the screen. We don't have the overscanning problem when we use an SVGA cable but we also don't have the benefit of a digital graphics card and monitor.

I haven't been able to get a driver modification to work that supposedly fixes this problem. It involves editing one of the driver files to "enable overscan compensation". I am amazed that the user community has to come up with these solutions while NVIDIA and ViewSonic will not provide a well documented solution their customers need to fix the problem.

I had a custom system built for me and this was one of the components. This card is great, video is vivid, no crashing when doing video or graphic intensive programs. When my system was being built the guy doing it had more than a few people show great interest in my system and they were awe struck by the graphics card, this made a great addition to my new computer.

I bought this video card in August and it arrived at it's destination in 2 days with amazon prime service.
This card is doing ok so far and handling everything I throw at it.
It doesn't even makes noise at you would consider annoying.
I'm running card on XP, so I still haven't unlocked it's full potential yet.
Once I upgrade my OS to Windows 7, shader model 4.0 should work, making me keep this longer in my pc.

The 512mb version runs great and as a product this video card is fantastic, if youre looking for a 512. The merchant on the other hand isnt as hot.
