Poker is wildly popular these days, and this handsome set makes a great gift for either the professional player or someone who enjoys an occasional game of Texas Hold 'Em among friends. Open the hard-back aluminum case, and inside on a green felt lining lie the basic accoutrements of a poker game: 400 11.5 gram casino quality poker chips in four colors: blue, red, black, and white; two decks of World Series of Poker cards; and two sets of dice. The sturdy case features two strong latches, reinforced corners, and an aluminum handle to create a very functional as well as stylish presentation.

Product Description

In the summer of 1949, as the story goes, inveterate gambler Nicholas "Nick the Greek" Dandolos approached Benny Binion with an unusual requestùto challenge the best in a high-stakes poker marathon. Binion agreed to set up a match between Dandolos and the legendary Johnny Moss, with the stipulation that the game be played in public view. Fast forward 55 years. With the introduction of preliminary "satellite" competitions with lower buy-ins, Binion's prophesy came to fruition, and the popularity of the World Series of Poker soared. In 1982, the tournament had 52 entries. Five years later, there were 2,141 entries, and the 2002 event had 7,595 participants. The prize money increased from $7,769,000 a decade ago to a staggering $19,599,230 in 2002! This year, eight grueling hours after play started on the final day of the 35th annual World Series of Poker , Greg Raymer, a corporate patent attorney from Stonington, Connecticut, scooped the final pot of the night û a staggering $25 million in chips û and walked away with $5 million in cash, the largest prize in poker tournament history. Game includes: Hardtop aluminum case to store and protect your chips! 400 11.5 gram, casino quality poker chips in four different colors! Includes two pairs of premium throwing dice! Contains two decks of professional World Series of Poker playing cards! The World Series of Poker , Horseshoe and World Champion of PokerSM are trademarks of Harrahs Operating Company, Inc. 5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Nice 400-Chip Poker Set with Aluminum Case, April 1, 2011
This review is from: EXCALIBUR ELECTRONIC WSOP Professional 400 11.5 Gram Poker Chip Set 2064A-WSOP (Kitchen)
I first must say that I did not buy this poker set from Amazon but found a used one at a local thrift store and paid about 1/10th the advertised price. I have thoroughly check this set out to make sure it is the same set being sold by Amazon. It is. I checked out at least 25 other sets on various sites and none matched except for this one so I feel very confident in my review of this set.

With all that said, I was extremely pleased and surprised when I opened up this case and viewed the contents. The chips (400 of them) are beautiful! I can't tell if they are made out of ceramic or very high quality plastic. Each chip has a hefty weight to it - 11.5 grams each. These chips are not like the other chips I saw in all the other sets. These seem very unique with tiny hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds decorating the inside edges on both sides. The outside edges have delicate little dots going all the way around each chip. I think they are very classy looking. Two packs of cards, 5 red dice with white dots, and a large, white "dealer chip" are also included. The cards are good quality - stiff enough and fairly plain on the backs.

Would I spend 100 dollars on this set if I were looking for a good set? I really don't know. I think this set is a bit unusual from the others but I've never physically seen the others so I can't honestly say. I am, however, very happy to have found this particular set. The aluminum case is hard and seems durable enough. With the chips inside, the case weighs about 13 lbs (bathroom scale). The chips are firmly held in place in their individual felt-lined troughs. I made the mistake of accidentally opening the case for the first time with it being upside down. Please be sure it is right-side up before opening or else the chips will come out of their troughs. Also, I tend to not use the handle on the case because though it seems to hold the case, it is made out of plastic and I'm not sure it can adequately hold 13 pounds. If it breaks, then it's possible all the chips will go everywhere so I just carry it in my arms.

I'm just fascinated with the chips themselves - very beautiful, especially the white ones. I can't wait to start using them!
