I've read a lot of self help books, mainly ones to help me lose weight. After reading this book, I realised it wasn't a book about losing weight that I needed. It was the motivation to get healthy and stay healthy. I'm not normally one to write reviews, but this book made me realise I was doing it all wrong. I don't need to learn how to eat healthy, or exercise. I know that eating too much and not doing enough physical activity is the reason someone puts on weight, or fails to lose it. Reading this book has helped me understand I don't need to diet. It's taught me how to change the way I approach exercise and healthy eating. I normally stick to a diet or an exercise regime for a month at the most, but Exercise Change has made me realise it's about changing the way you think about your lifestyle. I now have the tools to help me deal with that time when I would normally give up and resort back to my old habits. After reading this book, I'm confident I will lose the weight I need to, not because it's a fad diet, but because I now realise being healthy is something you do every day.

The managing stages section (which makes up the bulk of the book) is divided into three easy to digest sections, these being THINK, ASK and DO. Everything youll ever need and more has been included. Also the resources that go along with this book (under the 'DO' section are a fantastic bonus.

Motivation is not about will power, it is about understanding and working with what fuels our won’t power! In this easy to read book Matt has usefully drawn together current theories on motivation, which can help the ambivalent or repeatedly slipping reader better reach their exercise goals. For example, he allows the reader to understand how brain function is so much more than simply ‘mind over matter’, and how through working with the brain, rather than against it, desired exercise change becomes more likely. This is simply a must read for anyone who has had the best of exercise intentions, but keeps falling short of their targets

One only has to watch the passersby at the mall to see the undeniable truth – we don’t get enough exercise! Unfortunately for all those that start an exercise regimen, they are all too often lacking the most essential ingredient for success. Using the powerful information contained in this book, it is possible to build, strengthen and maintain that was is missing – motivation – by changing your behavior! Everything you need to think, need to ask, and need to do is contained in this insightful and highly effective book. I plan on keeping this title permanently on my Kindle! Great job!

With 2014 about to roll in, I have been looking into weight loss options but I also wanted something that wasn’t a fad.

I’ve been in the infomercial industry for years and being blunt, I’ve pretty much seen every fad diet out there. I also know how to weed out the non -optimum plans from winners. When I saw this book and read the preview, I knew this one was worth reading and trying.

The Exercise Motivation Change Cycle (EMCC) diagram is simply brilliant. I think it is 100% accurate. I printed it and put it on my fridge as a reminder.

I appreciated the worksheet that the author also included (2-3-4 Method) as I think when you actually write out answers to questions the answers (and your situation) become much more real.

I think the steps outlined hit the nail right on the head. When I completed the assessment (included in the book) I found I landed in the area of “trigger events”. I was stunned when I saw how much sense this plan makes.

Having the charts to use made the process of beginning and staying on a weight loss program much easier than one can imagine. The extra free bonuses showed me that this author really wanted to over deliver as there is way more value in this book than one may realize until you actually dive in and start reading.

I think this program is the missing link as to why so many people start and stop diets and often unfortunately feel like a failure.

The author outlines the weight loss process so you understand the cycle and can succeed.

Exercise Change is a book that surprised me in more ways than the one I expected. Having been dealing with a weight problem for more years than I care to remember I have always been looking for something besides the usual, take a pill, eat food you hate, buy expensive programs where you have to purchase their food. Matt Williams book isn’t your regular book about effective exercise, it’s exactly what the title says: “Effective Change!” As I read more and more I was confronted with so many of the personal issues I face everyday. Richly detailed and packed with information on how to learn a course correction for one of our worse enemies….habits!

I loved the 10% Rule! Instead of approaching issues with an all or nothing approach, the 10% rule helped me understand more realistic goals. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a coach that is supportive instead of combative and berating, then I suggest you check out Matt Williams, “Exercise Change.” This is a book you can come back to over and over and still find something new.
