3.0 out of 5 stars Not always compatible, June 17, 2007

This review is from: EXPRESSCARD/34-5:1 Card Reader (Personal Computers)
When I got the cardreader I assumed it would work with any SD memory card - but in fact it doesn't support the Lexar 4GB Plat. II card, so I am thinking it might not support cards of 2GB or more. (The cardreader that came with the Lexar works fine with the card) - what was worse; when restarting with the defunct card and card reader attached, my Mac could not get past the grey start screen which caused some panic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what you need., June 7, 2007
This review is from: EXPRESSCARD/34-5:1 Card Reader (Personal Computers)
Takes all the most common formats, compact and easy to use.

It's pretty nifty that it's spring loaded for both inserting/removing the memory card *and* inserting/removing the reader itself from my Macbook Pro.

My biggest complaint is that sometimes, you can pull the whole reader card out while trying to pull out just the memory card itself. I noticed this mostly while using Sony MemoryStick ProDuo cards in the fullsize MS card adapter...with the adapter it's just thick enough that it doesn't come out easy. Seems to be more a flaw with the adapter (out of spec) than a design fault of the card reader.

Takes MMC/SD, XD, and MemoryStick cards, plus all the varieties of SD (Mini and Micro) with adapters, as well as ProDuo cards with adapters. It's cheaper (as of June '07) than the Belkin or other competitors, and works without drivers (in OS X at least...I suppose it does with Windows as well, although I haven't specifically tested it.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Second try is best, June 2, 2007

The first one shipped did not fit the MB Pro slot very well and fortunately it went bad quickly so I returned it. Amazon had to wait for the next shipment that took a couple of weeks. The second one fits perfectly and goes in and out without use of pliers. It also works electronically with no effort.
