I am an R/C plane nut and have been flying electrics for nearly 20 years now. In recent years companies like iFly have done a fantastic job of creating toy-grade R/C products that are actually quite impressive flyers. The Duck Hunter is no exception. The R/C duck and transmitter included with the Duck Hunter set are identical to the iFly Wasp, Vamp and Eagle. I have them all and they are all wonderful little flyers with fantastic range and 10+ minute flight times. These are all "ornithopters" which means they fly via wing-flapping, very impressive to watch in and of itself. Being two channel (throttle and directional control) and light, they don't do well in any wind, but on calm days you can fly them surprisingly high such that they are a dot in the sky (called "specked out" in the R/C hobby). They can also be flown indoors if you have a good-size living room or empty garage to fly in. It's not unusual to run into furniture, walls, the ceiling, people, etc. when flying indoors; but these little foam flyers are very robust and so light that they don't break nor harm any of your belongings in these collisions.

The Duck Hunter adds an interesting twist to the iFly formula with its infrared gun. The way the gun works is this- you have to cock the handle (similar to a shotgun) under the barrel and then point it at the duck and fire. If you "hit" the duck, the duck will momentarily pause its wing flapping and then resume. If you "hit" it two more times, then the wings lock and the duck glides harmlessly to the ground. Turn the duck power off and back on and you're ready to go again. Obviously this takes two people- one to fly the duck and the other to shoot the gun. In our case I fly while my 7-year-old son shoots and he LOVES it! Indoors it's pretty hard to miss with the gun as the infrared signal will bounce off of walls, etc. and hit the duck almost every time. Outdoors is a bit more challenging. While the duck will fly just fine in sunlight (the control is via radio frequency), the duck's sensor will not register hits from the gun in sunlight (unless it's flying really close) since the gun is infrared. But as long as you fly in the shade it works great, my son and I usually fly it in the shadow of our house in the backyard. Greater skill is required to hit the duck outdoors, the gun needs to be pointed right at it. So it's more of a challenge, and more rewarding when you finally do shoot it down.

If you don't have a "marksman" on hand, the duck is lots of fun to fly by itself!

All in all it's a great little setup and I highly recommend it!

My two sons love this Duck hunting game. The bird flies around effortlessly in, and out, of the house. One of my sons (13yrs) controls the duck and the other (14yrs) tries to shoot at it. Challenging and fun. I think it is best used with a lot of room for flying. Easy to control and my kids and their friends love playing with it! Durable so far, and you can get replacement wings in case of damage. All-in-all very cool!

I bought this for my boyfriend's birthday because I thought it'd be interesting. He LOVED it. It works EXCELLENT indoors, but outdoors it's weak. I suggest only buying this product if you have large indoor space. It's pretty easy to fly, easy to shoot, but you really do need 2 players. I gave a low rating on educational value because it's not an educational toy in the least, it's only for entertainment. The reason I said it's weak outdoors is because even the slightest breeze will make it fly off in a random direction. That being said, also don't have fans on in the house while you play with it.

I am very displeased with the company's customer service and warranty policies...It was very difficult to reach a customer service representative, when I finally did (after weeks of trying#, I was disappointed with how they handled my situation. I bought the toy for my brothers as a Christmas gift. It broke the day after Christmas. I'm not saying their toy is bad quality, #in fact, I thought it worked very well and withstood a lot of flying and crashing#, but that the company was very unconcerned with helping me. I explained to them that the toy had broke after one day of play; when it crashed it landed wrong on its tail and its tail broke off of the duck but was still hanging on by the wire. I was very understanding of the representative and told him that if it had happened a few weeks or a month later I would have had no problem buying a replacement duck, but that I was upset that I bought a $65.00 toy from them as a Christmas gift and it broke the next day. He said he understood where I was coming from and said while he could do nothing he would talk to his manager about my specific situation and see what he could do and then call me back after the holidays or about a week later. Never receiving a call after 3 weeks I called them back and explained to another representative my situation with the duck and my prior discussion with the other representative. She said there was nothing she could do and did not care to look into it further. I then asked her about the warranty and she said that the warranty covers manufacture errors only and also that she had NEVER heard of a situation like mine where the duck would break on a fall, she further proceeded to say that my type of problem WAS NOT supposed to happen. I then said, well couldn't you then say that it could be a manufacture error if within one day's playing time the toy did exactly what it is not supposed to do #break on impact). Her only response was No. Followed by, you can purchase a replacement duck or tail for $15.00, after I had just spent $65.00 on a toy whose object is to fly then crash. The toy itself was so much fun, it is just unfortunate how short it lasted.

It just doesn't work very well. Nice idea but they didn't pull it off! Duck is very hard to launch and control. Frustrating!

This brand new ducky never, ever could be charged on the console charging station, not even once! Therefore, poor ducky couldn't fly. I fired few shots to this poor sitting duck and that's all the fun I got. You might think I didn't do the charging right. Well, my daughter (UC Berkeley), my son (UC Irvine) both high cost, smart College students tried it too and they got the same result!

Ducky itself is a smart design. I could see a lot of thinking putting into it but it was a shame not able to see it actually took off during Christmas Holidays.

Toy was ordered as Christmas gift On first flight wings snapped from defective part. Have corresponded with company for 6 months to obtain replacement parts or unit. Although they email that they will replace it it has been 6 months of hassle with no replacement received. Toy in theory would be fun but in reality it is a major disappointment and was not fair to child to tell them parts would be sent then wait for 6-8 weeks only to have to contact company and wait again,4 times. Under optimum conditions toy is very fragile. Don't order not worth money or disappointment.

Purchased product and the Duck would not charge. We emailed Interactive Toys and were told a replacement transmitter charger unit would be sent immediately. 3 months later and 20 emails and phone calls to the company. they still are unable to send replacements. They promised shipment and say they will provide tracking #'s, but cannot produce! I will never do business with INTERACTIVE TOY again.

My son got this for christmas and we are a little dissapointed. Indoors you would need a personal Gym to have enough room to fly it accuratly. Outside if there is even a little breeze it is pointless to try. My kids have way more fun with their helicoptors at least they can fly them in the house. Maybe it will be better on zero wind day. Still waiting for one of those. Until then it will sit in its box in the closet.
